Days 1/2 USA to Amsterdam & Tanzania
Fly from USA cities to Amsterdam overnight.
On Day 2, take a morning connecting flight to
Kilimanjaro Airport. Transfer to the Kibo Palace
Hotel (2 nights).
Day 3 Arusha National Park
Have a safari briefing, then depart with a
box lunch for Arusha National Park to discover
wildlife. This park is located at the foot of Mt.
Meru, the second highest mountain in Tanzania.
You will have a chance to visit the Momela lakes
and see flamingoes, Egyptian geese, and plovers.
We will look for wildlife including waterbuck,
dikdik, warthog, elephants, zebras, hippos,
buffalo, and Masai giraffe.
Days 4/5 Tarangire National Park
We will depart Arusha on a morning drive
through the Tanzanian countryside to Tarangire
ITINERARY
National Park. Tarangire is famous for its large
concentration of African elephants and baobab
trees. Here we will find the very definition of the
African bush: open savanna, impressive baobab
trees, acacia trees, roaming herds of elephant,
zebra, and an impressive array of predators.
In the dry season, the permanent waters of the
Tarangire River lure animals from across the
game lands of Northern Tanzania. We’ll enjoy
exploring this unique habitat today and
tomorrow and look for wildlife on the prowl.
Tarangire Safari Lodge (2 nights).
Days 6/7 Tarangire to Ngorongoro Crater
This morning, we will depart for Ngorongoro
Crater. We will pass through scenic Tanzanian
countryside, and see villagers in the town of
Karatu. As you reach the rim of Ngorongoro
Crater, there are breathtaking views of this
immense volcanic crater. Clouds billow up
along the rim of the crater, while wildlife grazes
below in this extraordinary wildlife sanctuary.
We will descend in our safari vehicles into
Ngorongoro Crater and explore this vast wildlife
reserve. Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge (2 nights).
Days 8-11 Serengeti National Park
For the next four days, we will explore the
renowned Serengeti National Park.
The Serengeti is one of the largest and most
important wildlife sanctuaries in the world. A
natural paradise roughly the size of Connecticut,
it has an exhilarating ecosystem for African
plains animals and riverine wildlife. The plains
of Seronera and gently undulating hills of Lobo
stretch up to the Kenyan border, an idyllic
landscape dotted with kopjes and acacia trees in
which we will look for resident wildlife. You will
explore the immense plains of the Serengeti, alert
for leopard, lions, zebras, Thompson’s gazelles,
and cheetah. We will also look for elusive animals
as well as hyenas, jackals, vultures, and wildlife of
the kopjes—rock hyraxes, mongooses, klipspringer,
and dikdik. Ang’ata Camp/Serengeti Wildlife
Lodge (4 nights).
Day 12 Serengeti toLake Manyara
National Park
Today we will head for Lake Manyara National
Park, an alkaline lake on the Great Rift Valley,
which is known for the flamingos that live there.
A park rich with birdlife, it is possible to see many
bird species in one day, as well as leopards, lions,
cheetahs, Masai giraffe, impala, zebras, and more.
The leopards and lions both may hang out on
tree limbs when not out hunting. We’ll stay in the
lovely Escarpment Lodge (1 night) which
overlooks the park and the Rift Valley.
Day 13 To Arusha & Home
Or begin Gombe Extension
Today we will return to Arusha and connect
with our flights this evening to Amsterdam and
the USA, arriving on Day 14.
