WATEROnly a small fraction of the abundance of water is available for human consumption. In industrialized countries, water treatment has virtually eliminated health problems related to bacterial contamination. In developing countries and countries with a strong population growth, water is often scarce and waterborne diseases still occur with alarming frequency. At Waterleau, we have developed water solutions responding to both the needs of industrialized and developing countries.

Our portfolio of water treatment technologies offer close-the-loop solutions for the industry: from process water production to effluent treatment and water reuse, our know-how in industrial water relies on a portfolio of state-of-the-art proprietary technology, an enviable track record in different industries and years of experience.

Our solutions for municipalities include conventional and membrane based technologies for drinking water production. Our sewage or municipal wastewater treatment expertise relies on proprietary biological

LIQUID SOLID SEPARATION

Known the world over for unparalleled liquid-solid separation solutions, Krofta DAF systems combine innovation with time-tested separation technology. Each Krofta DAF system features a unique Air Dissolving Tube (ADT), a key component that utilizes integral mixing of compressed air to more quickly dissolve air into the water. The result is a process that creates highly efficient separation and an effluent with low concentration of suspended solids.

AIRTogether with fresh water, air or oxygen reflects its role as our most vital nutrient. However, industrial expansion, economic and population growth cause increasing emissions of hazardous pollutants. Off gases and flue gases are often polluted by particulates, aerosols, acid gases and various other chemical substances that need to be removed before discharge into the atmosphere.

Our range of solutions for air treatment is based on proprietary developed know-how or acquired from MECS-DuPont, BAYER, Reither, KIMRE Inc and Socrematic, which has become our centre of competence for air treatment Waterleau France, located near Paris. Our main air pollution control systems include: chemical pollutants abatement, industrial and fertilizer dust removal, flue gas treatment, VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) and odour control, as well as (bio-)gas treatment.

WASTEDue to improved living standards and improved healthcare, municipal and industrial waste has grown dramatically in spite of all efforts (recycling, reuse…). Moreover, a number of new waste streams have emerged, especially hazardous waste and medical waste. This residual waste will have to be treated in a clean, safe and environment friendly way. Simply hiding it into the ground is not sustainable.

Thermal waste treatment technologies offer an answer when no other alternatives remain. Our proprietary thermal treatment technology portfolio offers a solution for thermal treatment for all kinds of solid, liquid and gaseous waste streams.

Waterleau’s Waste-to-Energy (WtE) technology comprises a complete range of solid and liquid waste combustion technologies, allowing power and heat production from the safe incineration of industrial, municipal and medical waste.

NEW ENERGYThe excessive consumption of fossil fuels is one of the most important causes of the greenhouse gas effect creating dramatic climate changes worldwide. Renewable energy is part of the answer.

Anaerobic treatment of wastewater converts the organic pollution into methane gas, the main component of biogas. More than 400 food and beverage companies rely on our expertise to produce green energy from their wastewater.

Our range of anaerobic reactors is capable of digesting a wide range of organic waste streams: from industrial biological effluent or municipal sludge, mixtures of manure, litter and slaughterhouse waste to the organic fraction of municipal solid waste. Our Biomass-to-Energy plant in Ypres is a state-of-the-art zero discharge design including nutrient recovery and water reuse.

Anaerobic treatment of wastewater converts organic pollution into methane gas, the main component of biogas. The biogas can be converted into energy in the form of heat, electricity, or a combination of both (cogeneration). Per kg incoming COD, an electricity production of approximately 1 kWh can be expected.

Sludge, the semi-solid by-product of the sewage treatment process must be treated and disposed off in a safe and effective manner. Next to sludge drying and incineration, anaerobic digestion is used for the degradation of the organic matter. The methane generation is a key advantage of the anaerobic process. The methane can be used in co-generation for the production of heat and electricity.

The composition of organic waste is often heterogeneous and subject to seasonal fluctuations. After the biogas production by anaerobic digestion, the solid part of the digestate can either be dried and turned into a high standard fertilizer or composted into a commercial product, while the liquid fraction can undergo an aerobic treatment and an evaporation step to produce clean water and a valuable nutrient concentrate.

As part of our commitment to improving the quality of life in the regions where we operate as well as in regions needing urgent help, Waterleau has invested in the development of realistic and sustainable ways of providing safe water which can also be deployed quickly in disaster struck communities.

Our WATERFACTORY® is a containerized water unit enabling bottling safe water in biodegradable plastic bags or pouches for easy local transport, and can be set up and be operational within 24 hours.

In order to raise awareness for water scarcity, Waterleau has developed the WATERBAR®. The WATERBAR® drinking water dispenser is a small ‘fun’ drinking water vending machine, for markets where safe water is plentiful. The WATERBAR® links water abundance to water scarcity, as its users are informed of, and contribute to drinking water projects in regions affected by water scarcity.

The WATERFACTORY®, WATERBAR® & WATER-ON-THE-ROCKS® drinking water solutions are not just a matter of technology, they are the expression of our commitment to care.
