RECEPTIONISTS IS IT YOU THAT

GOD IS CALLING?

Do you have a loving heart and a big smile that you would like to share with others? We are looking for 2 or 3 people that could help us in our parish office 1 day a week, or as needed as a “fill-in” when another volunteer cannot come in. Two shifts are available: 9-12 and 12-4. No experience necessary. Training will be provided.

Do not need to be bi-lingual.

Responsibilities: Greeting visitors, answering incom-ing calls and directing calls to the appropriate staff member. As the need arises, you may be asked to help with small day-to-day projects such as folding letters or stuffing envelopes. Our parish office serves both our church and the wider community of Kenosha.

New Public Charge Rule Summary The new public charge rule only affects non-US ci!zens applying for some kind of new status. This includes: visa applica!ons, your first applica!on for a green card, or lawful permanent resident (LPR) status, an extension or change from your current status. In general, if you are applying for LPR status, a visa, or changing status for the first !me, and you are NOT an asylee, refugee, DACA recipient, or on certain types of protec!ve visas, you may be subject to the public charge rule. All of this is just an overview of what the public charge rule will and will not do. It is not clear right now how exactly it will be applied by immigra!on officials, since the new rule gives officers discre!on in how they weigh the many factors they are allowed to consider. Please hire an immigra!on a+orney if you are thinking of applying for LPR status or for a visa, because they will be able to address ques!ons specific to your case.

Lenten Mini Retreats at St. Mark’s Parish

Please join Fr. Ron Gramza for a series of 3 Lenten mini-retreats which will help us prepare for this year’s celebra!on of Easter. Each mini-retreat will focus on one of the three tradi!onal Lenten prac!ces which are Prayer, Fas!ng and Almsgiving. We will look at those prac!ces in the life of Jesus. We will explore the Biblical roots of each of them. And we will talk about a variety of prac!cal ways that we can pray, fast and give alms as we approach Holy Week. Our rela!onship with Jesus will deepen thru these mini-retreats.

We will gather in the Strenski Center on these three Tuesday mornings of Lent:

March 17, 24 and 31 at 9:30. These meetings will last between an hour and an hour and a half.

Please join us in these mini-retreats as we support each other on this Lenten journey. Our mee!ngs are sure to be grace-filled.

(Fr. Ron is a re!red priest who lives in Racine. He is a good friend of Fr. Carlos. He gives retreats, offers Spiritual Direc!on and regularly helps out at parishes in Racine.)

THE CHALLENGE OF EVIL Visions have always been tricky occurrences. Whether they take place on the top of mountains, within the limits of our imagina-!on, or against the backdrop of our everyday lives, they speak primarily to the viewer who is o;en le; struggling to understand just what the vision means. While the meaning is not always

clear, their ability to a+ract our a+en!on and redirect our lives is o;en the result. The world has always been hungry for glimpses of holiness no ma+er when they appear. In today’s gospel, Peter, James, and John saw Jesus transfigured, an experience that over-whelmed them, leaving them speechless and fearful. That is the way of vision experienc-es. They have the power to strengthen our spir-

ituality and open us to a whole new world-view. We begin to see holiness imaged in the most unexpected places---in the everyday occurrences of our lives. If we want to see what the disciples saw on the mountaintop, we too can view holiness, provided we look in the right places. Our search becomes successful when holiness is viewed within the faces of those made in God’s image---in you and in me. Vision experiences require work! If we are willing to put out the work required, vision experiences are wai!ng for us. That’s the catch! It won’t come to us if we don’t begin to see differently. If we are spiritually “in park,” wai!ng for some special delivery vision, we will wait forever. Vision experiences are fueled by love. It was love that drew the disciples to the mountaintop, and it will be love that awakens our vision of the holy that surrounds us. However, we might prefer an easier route to holiness, be-cause the journey can be both physically and spiritually challeng-ing. Especially during Lent, the terrain always changes---desert one minute, and uphill climb the next. If we con!nue to travel in love and faith, our efforts will be rewarded by magical moments along the way, when Jesus springs into view. Like Peter, James and John, we are living out our lives in the presence of the glorious risen Christ. Jesus suffered and died and now he is the risen Lord, transfigured in glory. Each !me we gather for liturgy, it is the transfigured Jesus whom we meet. In every sacramental experience, in every proclama!on of the Word, wherever two or three gather in his name, and in every breath of the Spirit, it is the transfigured Jesus whom we encoun-ter. On our Lenten journey through prayer, fas!ng, and sharing we hope to encounter him. By the way we view the events of our lives, in the faces of those whom we meet, and in the lives of all whom we touch, we affirm our blessedness and we become transformed. Each !me we see the face of Jesus, even among the least of us, holiness has bright-ened our view. Yet each !me we allow injus!ce to go unchal-lenged, our vision is dimmed. Each of us, in so many ways, can reveal the glow of our inner selves, and allow our divinity to shine through for others to see. At those !mes, our vision, tricky though it may be, becomes crystal clear and our world is never the same. Let this Lenten journey direct us toward the mountaintops of our lives, glowing brightly by the divinity shining through our every-day lives. This Easter may we acclaim: “I’ve been to the moun-taintop and I am on my way to Jerusalem.”
