Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) is usually caused by enteroviruses such as coxsackieviruses and enterovirus 71 (EV71). The disease spreads by contact with infected persons’ nose or throat secretions, fluid from skin rash or stool. There are seasonal outbreaks in Hong Kong (Figure 1) which can occur in school dormitory. OVERSEAS ACADEMIC EXCHANGE

The Travel Health Clinic of UHS has been formally in service since Sep 2014. We offer travel health consultation, vaccination, prophylactic medications for malaria and high altitude sickness, first aid kit and travelers' medicine pack. A travel health consultation involves delivery of an ample amount of knowledge, which includes but not limited to discussion on food and water hygiene, prevention of bites and stings, use of vaccines and prophylactic medications, personal safety and repatriation. In order to improve the efficiency and quality of service, last year, UHS launched an online travel health module using the school virtual learning platform LEARN@PolyU for students attending overseas service-learning activities. Each student after watching the presentations and read the materials was invited to join a quiz which multiple attempts were allowed. The result was encouraging, 107 in 111 students can score full marks in the quiz.

Dr Lo and Dr Au did several poster presentations in the 2015 Taipei WONCA conference.

As far as the writer knows, the use of electronic platform as part of a formal travel health consultation was the first of its kind in Hong Kong. The experience was presented in the 2015 WONCA Asia Pacific Regional Conference in Taipei and shared among family physicians.
