Fall River School District

Helping all students achieve to their fullest potential

Fall River students and staff have worked enthusiastically throughout the first semester of the school year. It’s hard to believe that second semester will begin on January 22. Each spring, students in grades 3 - 10, complete the Wisconsin Forward Assessment. The electronic assessment measures each student’s ability to show a depth of knowledge and understanding. This year, legislation influenced how components of the report cards were weighed and how growth was measured. As the Fall River School District focuses on helping all students achieve to their fullest potential, the School Report Card is one source used to reflect on strengths and areas for improvement. As part of the state accountability system, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) produces report cards for every publicly funded school and district in Wisconsin. These Accountability Report Cards include data on multiple indicators for multiple years across four Priority Areas (Student Achievement, Growth, Closing Gaps, and On-track and Post-secondary Success). In addition, given the impact on student success, the Accountability Report Cards also measure chronic absenteeism and dropout rates. A school or district's Overall Accountability Score places the school/district into one of five Overall Accountability Ratings: The current School and District Report Cards are based on performance data from the 2016-2017 school year. Scores are assessed in four priority areas:

1. Student Achievement: students’ level of knowledge and skills attained compared against state academic standards in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics.

2. Growth: how rapidly students are gaining knowledge and skills from year to year, focusing on the pace of improvement in students’ performance.

3. Closing Gaps: how much the school or district is closing statewide achievement gaps between student groups (comparing low-income students, English learners, students with disabilities, and members of minority racial or ethnic groups with their peers).

4. On-Track and Postsecondary Readiness: how successfully students are achieving 5. Schools and districts are also scored on College/Career Readiness and Student

Engagement.

The DPI and State of Wisconsin’s Rating Rubric for school districts is attached below.

Pirate Press - January 2019 page 7

Overall, our data trend is going in the correct direction. Here at Fall River, we are constantly striving to make our district a better district each day we are here. Although, we are heading in the right direction, we are not where we want to be, yet. We will work hard to continue to raise our accountability report card in the future. As always, our doors are open for public input and ideas to help improve our district. If you have any questions please feel free to stop in to either Mr. Verrier’s or Mr. Zacho’s office.

The Fall River School/Community Calendar can be found by going to the Fall River School website (www.fallriver.k12.wi.us) and clicking on "Calendar". If you would like to receive email reminders or notices of changes to any events, you may do this my clicking on the "notify me" tab on the bottom right of the Fall River Calendar page and following the prompts. There is also a tab called "get the mobile app" that will add events from the calendar right into your personal calendar.
