DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE Presenting the YPS Year Book ,’The Yadavindrian ‘ and the Creative Journal, ’Athena’ for the year 2018-19, is, as always, an absolute joy.

I compliment the School Editorial Board for having toiled tirelessly to collect, select and edit the articles and reports. The books are significant in that while the Year Book keeps us updated on the events taking place in the school, besides preserving them for posterity, the creative journal is a vibrant platform on which our students can showcase their finesse in writing , composing , drawing and painting.

Besides the ambitious Platinum Anniversary celebrations ,the year was marked by our students performing well in all spheres . The school continued its uninterrupted rise in the field of academics. The increase in participation ,and the consequent achievements, in sports and extra –curricular activities is perceptible. Another accomplishment this year was that our teams of boys and girls completed three marathon cycle rallies to different parts of Northern India.

We hope to take this success story further in the ensuing year.

THE DIRECTOR’S

ADDRESS (EXCERPTS)

THE DIRECTOR’S

ADDRESS (EXCERPTS)

This year, ladies and gentlemen, is indeed special for us as we complete seventy years of a momentous journey and celebrate our platinum jubilee. It is, heartening to note that, the successive generations, have lived up to the high ideals of our Founder and maintained the high standards of excellence desired and expected by him. YPS today, is counted among the leading and prestigious public schools of the country. It is only last year that we were selected amongst the Top 50 Schools of India Shaping Success by Forbes Magazine…

My association with the school of the last two and a half years has, to say the least, been fruitful and engaging, and on a lighter note stressful. The programmes we set out with, the revisions we made in our policies, our working schedule and curriculum, and the reforms we introduced in our ways and methods of teaching have all begun to bear fruit and yield positive results.

The number of working days and the working hours now stand enhanced to 225 and 1100 hrs respectively, in one academic year...The school, from this academic session, follows the revised curriculum prescribed by the council from K to 12 and with the installation of the smart boards in all classes last year we have been able to make our classroom teaching more effective…

As already highlighted in the school annual reports, we have recorded a marked improvement in our board results. A majority of our students have scored above 80 % with 22% of the students scoring above 90% in both the ISC and ICSE examinations. The admissions of our Class 12 pass outs in colleges has been gratifying…

In games and sports and extra-curricular activities, the participation has considerably improved...

I can assure you that we shall continue in our endeavour. This success proves that the school is treading in the right direction, to impart the right education and the right values to its students and make them shine in this competitive world.

One of the biggest challenges we face is of accommodating this wide array of activities and pursuits in the mandated, stipulated working hours we have at our disposal. But then with a morewise and pragmatic time management, effective planning and a more balanced, even and equal break-up of yearly activities in the school calendar, we have been able to meet this challenge.

I must share that there has been an improvement in the aspects of slackening moral values amongst our children today, occasional disregard of school rules, general apathy shown towards decorum and discipline, declining standards of spoken English speaking habit and the undue and unregulated use of the new age gadgets. Our teachers remain committed in making perfect students. However, we do need the support of you, the parents…

It gladdens me to inform you that on the aspect of providing enhanced facilities to our children, we have, and are in the process of providing state –of-the- art air-conditioned Squash Courts, Shooting range, 50m Swimming pool and 1000 seater auditorium. All projects are in schedule.

.My special thanks to the alumni and parents whose presence in the school is always a reason of delight for us. Their suggestions to improve the school are taken cognizance of and implemented.

Finally, I reserve my deepest and sincerest words of gratitude for the honourable members of our School Board of Governors who have always been a source of inspiration and pillars of strength. It is largely through their guidance and support that the school has grown, prospered and flourished over the years and continues to do so under their aegis.

THE JUNIOR SCHOOL ANNUAL REPORT (EXCERPTS)

The academic year 2017-18 has been a success story for us in terms of academic achievement, as out of a total of 614 students, 355 walked away with the platinum category.

Activities like reading, recitation, just -a- min, spell bee, creative writing and handwriting kept us on our toes and on an average 16 to 24 of us, after due selection per class, got a chance to participate.

Our hearts swelled with pride when some of us bagged the top most ranks in the zone in the Unified International English Olympiad, the Science Talent Search Examination and the Unified Cyber Olympiad on the national level.

‘Fledglings’- our annual journal is a mirror reflection of our thoughts and creativity in the form of short stories, composition, poetry and drawing made by us.

Programmes like the Mindspark and the Mathematics and G.K Quizzes continue to act like a catalyst to sharpen our logical reasoning.

As said by Alfred Mercier, ” what we learn with pleasure we never forget. “The year 2017-18 was packed with celebration of various religious and cultural festivals, where we showcased our talent in singing and dancing.

The mega event of our Junior School was our Annual Entertainment Concert which was a grand success as 90% of us set the stage on fire!...

We stayed busy throughout the year with competitions like chart making, art and craft and hobbies such as nature club and flower making to name a few! Model-making dough- modelling, pottery and decoupage were also introduced this year.

Our young ‘yogis’ from class- I added a new flavour to the yoga presentation on the Annual Sports Day. Mankirat Singh of Class I was our youngest horse rider in the School Riding Team among the many other riders from the Junior Wing.

Sports is another important and compulsory feature of our school. Swimming, basketball, horse riding, cricket, soccer, wallclimbing, badminton, table tennis, athletics, boxing, taekwondo and gymnastics are the different sports we play and, four out of us have already reached the state level in various games.

Cricket and Soccer, being the most popular amongst us, attracted around 56 students and 87 students respectively. Our passion for athletics is also great as 132 of us took part in the Inter-house athletics. Another sports which most of us have a penchant for, is swimming and that was reflected in our Inter- house swimming competition which had 120 of us participating.

Horse riding, which is compulsory for class IV has around 126 students practicing on a regular basis. Wall climbing and gymnastics also have 21 students and 29 students respectively practicing .

A special mention of the cross country that was held this year where 311 of us took active part .

We stood tall as Aamer Ajit S Kohli, class IV, baggeda gold in taekwondo in the Sub Junior National level and Jansher Grewal, Class II, reached the Sub Junior national level in squash. Dev Malhotra, Class V also reached the national level in fencing whereas Gunraj, Cass V, bagged a gold medal in the open nationals in horse riding….
