The First Lesson Ecclesiasticus 44:1-10,13-14

A reading from the Book Ecclesiasticus

Let us now sing the praises of famous men, our ancestors in their generations. The Lord apportioned to them great glory, his majesty from the beginning. There were those who ruled in their kingdoms, and made a name for themselves by their valor; those who gave counsel because they were intelligent; those who spoke in pro-phetic oracles; those who led the people by their counsels and by their knowledge of the people's lore; they were wise in their words of instruction; those who composed musical tunes, or put verses in writing; rich men endowed with resources, living peacefully in their homes-- all these were honored in their generations, and were the pride of their times. Some of them have left behind a name, so that others declare their praise. But of others there is no memory; they have perished as though they had never existed; they have become as though they had never been born, they and their children after them. But these also were godly men, whose righteous deeds have not been forgotten; Their offspring will continue forever, and their glory will never be blotted out. Their bodies are buried in peace, but their name lives on generation after generation. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. The Psalm - Psalm 149 Cantate Domino Hallelujah! Sing to the LORD a new song; sing his praise in the congregation of the faithful. Let Israel rejoice in his Maker; let the children of Zion be joyful in their King. Let them praise his Name in the dance; let them sing praise to him with timbrel and harp. For the LORD takes pleasure in his people and adorns the poor with victory. Let the faithful rejoice in triumph; let them be joyful on their beds.

Let the praises of God be in their throat and a two-edged sword in their hand; To wreak vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples; To bind their kings in chains and their nobles with links of iron; To inflict on them the judgment decreed; this is glory for all his faithful people. Hallelujah! The Second Lesson Revelation 7:2-4,9-17

A reading from the revelation to John:

I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, having the seal of the living God, and he called with a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to damage earth and sea, saying, "Do not damage the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have marked the servants of our God with a seal on their foreheads." And I heard the number of those who were sealed, one hundred forty-four thousand, sealed out of every tribe of the people of Israel. After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every na-tion, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud voice, saying, "Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!" And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God,singing, "Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen. "Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, "Who are these, robed in white, and where have they come from? "I said to him, "Sir, you are the one that knows. " Then he said to me, "These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. For this reason they are before the throne of God, and worship him day and night within his temple, and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them. They will hunger no more, and thirst no more; the sun will not strike them, nor any scorching heat; for the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Anthem (10:30): “Pilgrims’ Hymn”, Stephen Paulus Even before we call on Thy name To ask Thee, O Lord, When we seek for the words to glorify Thee, Thou hearest our prayer; Unceasing love, O unceasing love, Surpassing all we know. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, And to the Holy Spirit. Even with darkness sealing us in, We breathe Thy name, And through all the days that follow so fast, We trust in Thee; Endless Thy grace, O endless Thy grace, Beyond all mortal dream. Both now and forev-er, And unto ages and ages, Amen –Michael Dennis Browne The Gospel Matthew 5:1-12

The Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark Glory to you Lord Christ

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. "Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

"Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You Lord Christ

The Sermon Pastor Greg

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. Who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified. Who has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayers of the People

Leader God our Father, by your grace you have made us heirs of the Kingdom of your Beloved Son, and have called us to share in the inheritance of the Saints in light.

Hear us as we pray for your Church around the world, that renewed in the spirit of holiness we may be filled with truth and love, and huger and thirst for the righteousness of your Kingdom. We ask you to bless all churches, hospitals, and schools named in honor of all the Saints.

Silence Lord, hear us, People Lord, graciously hear us. Leader We pray for the whole family of humankind: show us the path of life and grant that all the races

and nations of the earth may be united in your covenant of peace and justice. Guide with your Holy Wisdom all those who are entrusted with the authority of government, that they may seek first your kingdom and your righteousness, and so serve the common good

Silence Lord, hear us, People Lord, graciously hear us. Leader Be merciful to all who suffer: we pray to you for the sick, the poor, the hungry, the persecuted

and the oppressed; for all refugees, prisoners and hostages; for all who are in danger, that they may be relieved and protected and delivered from all their misery

Silence Lord, hear us, People Lord, graciously hear us. Leader And remember in your kingdom, Lord, all who have died. May they rest in that place where

sorrow and pain are no more, but life everlasting. Silence Lord, hear us, People Lord, graciously hear us.

Leader And so we pray for ourselves; for our life together for our families and all whom we love. By your grace may we serve you with an undivided heart and seek your glory in all things.

Silence Lord, hear us, People Lord, graciously hear us. Leader Give us grateful hearts, and teach us to acknowledge every grace and every moment as a gift

from you. Help us to see your intent, and to be faithful servants. Silence Lord, hear us, People Lord, graciously hear us. Celebrant Almighty God, by your Holy Spirit you have made us one with your saints in heaven and on

earth: Grant that in our earthly pilgrimage we may always be supported by this fellowship of love and prayer, and know ourselves to be surrounded by their witness to your power and mer-cy. We ask this for the sake of Jesus Christ, in whom all our intercessions are acceptable through the Spirit, and who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.

Confession

Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen. Please stand as you are able.

The Peace

The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you.

The People greet one another in the Name of Christ The Announcements

The Offertory Hymn #293, “I sing a song of the saints of God”, Grand Isle

1. I sing a song of the saints of God, patient and brave and true, who toiled and fought and lived and died for the Lord they loved and knew. And one was a doctor, and one was a queen, and one was a shepherdess on the green: they were all of them saints of God--and I mean, God helping, to be one too.

2. They loved their Lord so dear, so dear, and his love made them strong; and they followed the right, for Jesus' sake, the whole of their good lives long. And one was a soldier, and one was a priest, and one was slain by a fierce wild beast: and there's not any reason, no, not the least why I shouldn't be one too.

3. They lived not only in ages past, there are hundreds of thousands still; the world is bright with the joyous saints who love to do Jesus' will. You can meet them in school, or in lanes, or at sea, in church, or in trains, or in shops, or at tea; for the saints of God are just folk like me, and I mean to be one too.

THE HOLY COMMUNION Please stand as you are able.

It is truly right to glorify you, Father, and to give you thanks; for you alone are God, living and true, dwelling in light inaccessible from before time and for ever. Fountain of life and source of all goodness, you made all things and fill them with your blessing; you created them to rejoice in the splendor of your radiance. Countless throngs of angels stand before you to serve you night and day; and, beholding the glory of your presence, they offer you unceasing praise. Joining with them, and giving voice to every creature under heaven, we acclaim you, and glorify your Name, as we sing,

Sanctus and Benedictus Hymn # S-128 William Mathias

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might Heav’n and Earth are full, full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is he who coms in the Name of the Lord Hosanna in the highest!

Please kneel or stand as you are able.

The Celebrant continues

We acclaim You, holy Lord, glorious in power. Your mighty works reveal Your wisdom and love. You formed us in Your Own image, giving the whole world into our care, so that, in obedience to You, our Creator, we might rule and serve all Your creatures. When our disobedience took us far from You, You did not abandon us to the power of death. In Your mercy You came to our help, so that in seeking You we might find You. Again and again You called us into covenant with You, and through the prophets You taught us to hope for salvation. Father, You loved the world so much that in the fullness of time You sent Your only Son to be our Savior. In-carnate by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, He lived as one of us, yet without sin. To the poor He pro-claimed the good news of salvation; to prisoners, freedom; to the sorrowful, joy. To fulfill Your purpose He gave Himself up to death; and, rising from the grave, destroyed death, and made the whole creation new. And, that we might live no longer for ourselves, but for Him Who died and rose for us, He sent the Holy Spirit, His own first gift for those who believe, to complete His work in the world, and to bring to fulfillment the sanctifi-cation of all.

When the hour had come for Him to be glorified by you, His heavenly Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end; at supper with them He took bread, and when He had given thanks to you, He broke it, and gave it to His disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is My Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

After supper He took the cup of wine; and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, and said, “Drink this, all of you: This is My Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of Me.”

Father, we now celebrate this memorial of our redemption. Recalling Christ’s death and His descent among the dead, proclaiming His resurrection and ascension to Your right hand, awaiting His coming in glory; and offer-ing to You, from the gifts You have given us, this bread and this cup, we praise You and we bless You.

All say together

We praise You, we bless You, we give thanks to You, and we pray to You, Lord our God.

Lord, we pray that in Your goodness and mercy Your Holy Spirit may descend upon us, and upon these gifts, sanctifying them and showing them to be holy gifts for your holy people, the bread of life and the cup of salvation, the Body and Blood of Your Son Jesus Christ. Grant that all who share this bread and cup may be-come one body and one spirit, a living sacrifice in Christ, to the praise of Your Name. Remember, Lord, your one holy catholic and apostolic Church, redeemed by the blood of Your Christ. Reveal its unity, guard its faith, and preserve it in peace. Remember Justin, Michael, Rob, and all who minister in Your Church. Remember all Your people, and those who seek Your truth, especially this parish family. Remember all who have died in the peace of Christ, and those whose faith is known to You alone; bring them into the place of eternal joy and light. And grant that we may find our inheritance with the Ever-Blessed Virgin Mary, with patriarchs, proph-

ets, apostles, and martyrs, with and all the saints who have found favor with You in ages past. We praise You in union with them and give You glory through Your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Celebrant sings the conclusion of the prayer

Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ, all honor and glory are Yours, Almighty God and Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, The Breaking of the Bread The Celebrant breaks the consecrated Bread. A period of silence is kept. Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us; Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia. The Fraction Anthem: Agnus Dei Hymn # S-165 William Mathias Jesus, Lamb of God, have mercy on us. Jesus, bearer of our sins, have mercy on us. Jesus, Redeemer of the World, give us your peace.

The Invitation to Communion The Gifts of God for the People of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving. All who are present are welcome to receive Holy Communion. Communion Anthem (10:30): “O how glorious”, Healey Willan O how glorious is the kingdom wherein all the saints rejoice with Christ; clothed in white robes they follow the Lamb whithersoever He goeth. Please stand or kneel as you are able.

Prayer of Thanksgiving after Communion

Almighty and ever living God, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living members of the Body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal kingdom. And now, Father, send us out to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

The Closing Blessing

The peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Ho-ly Spirit, be among you, and remain with you always. Amen. Closing Hymn #618, “Ye watchers and ye holy ones”, Lasst uns erfreuen

1. Ye watchers and ye holy ones, bright seraphs, cherubim, and thrones, raise the glad strain, Alleluia! Cry out, dominions, princedoms, powers, virtues, archangels, angels' choirs, Alleluia! alleluia! alleluia! alleluia! alleluia!

2. O higher than the cherubim, more glorious than the seraphim, lead their praises, Alleluia! Thou bearer of the eternal Word, most gracious, magnify the Lord, Alleluia! alleluia! alleluia! alleluia! alleluia!

3. Respond, ye souls in endless rest, ye patriarchs and prophets blest, Alleluia, alleluia! Ye holy twelve, ye martyrs strong, all saints triumphant, raise the song, Alleluia! alleluia! alleluia! alleluia! alleluia!

4. O friends, in gladness let us sing, supernal anthems echoing, Alleluia, alleluia! To God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit, Three in One, Alleluia! alleluia! alleluia! alleluia! alleluia!

Dismissal

Let us go forth in the Name of Christ. Thanks be to God.

THE STEWARDSHIP MINUTE: In 1 Peter 4:9-11, the Apostle Peter offers constructive words to think about during our fall pledge campaign, whose theme is “Give, Serve, Grow”: “Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” While that passage covers a lot of ground, it is interesting that Peter specifically said to use whatever gift you have received to serve others. To us on the Stewardship Committee, it keeps us centered upon and mindful of the fact that all of your pledges are precious -- we value them all, whatever you are able to give.
