SUPPORTING THE GOGOS

The Tri City Potters have attempted to support a worthwhile cause in our community each year. This year we have been approached by the “Go-Go’s”. This is an African name for Grandmothers. In many areas of sub-Saharan Africa, children are being raised by their grandmothers because the AIDS epidemic has left many parents unable to care for their own children. An event will take place to support the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign. The dinner is called “Souper Bowl” and will take place on International Women’s Day, March 8, at Deer Lake United Church, 5135 Sperling Ave. in Burnaby. We get the venue for free and will be able to send ALL proceeds to the Stephen Lewis Foundation. For more information, check out the website www.grandmotherscampaign. Or www.greatervangogos.org

OUR part is to provide bowls for this event, and each participant will receive a hand-crafted bowl for their soup-supper. We are asking that every member who can, donate 5 or 6 bowls which contain approximately 2 cups each.

4

The coordinator of this event, Hannah Diamond, will attend our February meeting to talk about the event and to collect bowls.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION was given to our most senior member in the form of a certificate and “Lifetime Membership” to our group.

GLORIA BARKLEY

Gloria has been an active member of the Tri City potter’s group since it’s inception over 10 years ago. She has served as treasurer, and has been actively involved in events. She is present at meetings when her health permits, though driving to meetings at night has been difficult for her recently. At the age of 90 Gloria still drives to our discussion group at the Gallery Bistro each month.. The certificate was presented at the Gallery Bistro on November 7, 2018

WHEEL FOR SALE

I'm a very amateur potter who came to a couple of your meetings a year or two ago so I'm on your email list and really enjoy getting your newsletters. I have a wheel that I've sadly decided to sell as I now live in a condo and really don't have a practical space for using it . I'm hoping to do some classes and studio time at pomo arts in January and I think that makes more sense for me instead of trying to work at home. I'm hoping someone in your group may be interested in buying my wheel. It's an oldie but a goodie. I bought it used and it was originally from Nanaimo parks and rec pottery programme. Its a shimpo and has a date stamp which I think says 1996. I'm really not sure how much to ask but thought around $500??????? Please pass on this info to anyone you think might be interested.... Thanks...lesley
