senior single-season block list. Cleveland has blocked at least one shot in 10 straight games.Cleveland produced her second double-double of the season with a career-high 18 points and 13

rebounds in a win over San Diego (Dec. 28). She has scored in double figures eight times in 13 games andowns a pair of double-figure rebounding efforts. She pulled down a career-high 15 boards against TexasSouthern on Dec. 9, while recording her first career double-double with 10 points.

Cleveland’s 124 points this season have surpassed her career total of 79 points heading into the season, while her 108 rebounds this year have eclipsed her previous career mark (79) entering the season. Her23 blocked shots are more than double her previous career total (9).

Jina Johansen, 5-7, So., G, Dannebrog, Neb. – Jina Johansen has become Nebraska’s floor generalas a sophomore. Along with averaging 5.9 points per game and 3.1 rebounds per game, Johansen leads theHuskers and ranks fourth in the Big 12 with 5.8 assists per game, while ranking second on the team with 1.5steals per contest. In the win over Rice, Johansen scored a career-high 15 points and tied a career best withnine assists while playing all 40 minutes. She set another career high with seven steals against GramblingState to go along with seven assists.

Johansen has played 485 of a possible 520 minutes (93.3 percent) so far this season, and had played 181of 182 minutes through five games (dating back to Cincinnati, Dec. 15) before missing 10 minutes in thesecond half against Texas-Pan American after being hit by an elbow in the mouth, requiring stitches inher upper lip. She suffered the injury with just over 18 minutes left in the game, and did return for the finaleight minutes against the Lady Broncs. Her 30 minutes played against UTPA was a season low.

Despite missing her first significant action of the season, Johansen still managed to score eight points, including the first two three-pointers of her career against Texas-Pan American. In the loss to No. 15 PennState on Dec. 30, she produced a solid all-around game with nine points, eight assists and five steals. Shehas scored in double figures twice this season, including an 11-point effort in the win over New Orleanson Dec. 22.

Johansen played the full 40 minutes in the loss to No. 25 Oklahoma on Jan. 11, the sixth time this seasonthat she has not left the floor.

Shahidrah Roberts, 5-9, Sr., G, Overland Park, Kan. – Shahidrah Roberts made her first start inexactly one year in the Huskers’ win over New Orleans on Dec. 22. Replacing the injured Katie Morse inthe starting lineup after Morse was lost for the season with a knee injury in the Cincinnati game (Dec. 15),Roberts scored 11 points, pulled down six rebounds, dished out three assists, grabbed three steals andblocked two shots. It was Roberts’ first start since a Dec. 22, 2001 win over Chicago State. After that game,Roberts suffered a severely sprained ankle and missed the rest of the 2001-02 season.

Roberts is still slowed somewhat by the injury, but enters the Kansas State game averaging 8.8 pointsand 4.5 rebounds per game. She has started six consecutive games. Roberts has scored in double figuresin six of Nebraska’s last eight games. She scored a season-high 15 points, while knocking down a season-best three three-pointers in the loss to No. 15 Penn State on Dec. 30. She recorded the first double-doubleof her career with 14 points and a career-high 11 rebounds vs. Cal State Fullerton.

Off the Bench – To say the Huskers have been thin off the bench is putting it mildly. Nebraska has onlynine players on scholarship this season, but even that is understating NU’s numbers crunch. Senior KeashaCannon and freshman Jamie Wendelin will both redshirt this season for medical reasons, and GreichalyCepero did not join the Huskers until after the completion of her volleyball season, practicing for the firsttime on Jan. 1. Fellow volleyball player Laura Pilakowski also joined the basketball team for the first timeon Jan. 1. The senior from Columbus, Neb., has not competed in basketball since high school.

Cepero and Pilakowski have been the first two Huskers off the bench in Big 12 play, providing significantcontributions in losses to No. 25 Oklahoma on Jan. 11 and at Colorado on Jan. 14. Against OU, the paircombined for 51 minutes, scoring 10 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Cepero and Pilakowski combinedfor six points and 16 rebounds in 47 minutes at Colorado.

Walk-ons Lacey Hanson (Ralston, Neb.) and Kala Sledge (Omaha, Neb.) have been available for theHuskers off the bench throughout the season. A third walk-on, Jessie Runty from Omaha, Neb., saw her firstaction of the year in NU’s win over New Orleans after sitting out the first semester because of NCAA transferrules. Runty erupted for a career-high 11 points, including a trio of three-pointers in the loss to Texas-PanAmerican on Jan. 5. Nebraska’s four walk-ons (Hanson, Pilakowski, Runty and Sledge) have combined toplay 296 minutes this season, including 161 minutes (13 games) from Hanson, 49 minutes (nine games)from Sledge, 37 minutes (five games) from Runty and 49 minutes (three games) from Pilakowski.

Junior Katie Morse, one of Nebraska’s hardest workers on and off the court, was lost for the season whenshe suffered a knee injury against Cincinnati. She produced solid numbers inside for the Huskers, averaging12.0 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Morse followed a career-high 25-point, 10-rebound effort againstTexas Southern with an 18-point, 10-rebound, five-blocked shot night against Cal State Fullerton. It was thethird double-double of her career, and her second straight. Morse notched her first career double-doublewith 12 points and 10 rebounds in the victory over Grambling State, before adding seven points and sevenboards in the win over Rice.

Huskers Lose at Colorado, 74-54The Nebraska women’s basketball team scored just seven points in the first 14 minutes of the second

half, as the Huskers watched Colorado pull away for a 74-54 win in front of 2,596 fans at the Coors EventsCenter in Boulder, Colo., on Tuesday evening.

With the loss, Nebraska fell to 7-6 overall and 0-2 in Big 12 play, while Colorado, which was ranked 23rd

in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll, improved to 12-2 overall and 2-1 in league action.Senior center Amanda Cleveland led the Huskers with her third double-double of the season, scoring

13 points and pulling down 11 rebounds, while Alexa Johnson pitched in 15 points and Shahidrah Robertsadded 10 points in a losing effort.

Laura Pilakowski and Greichaly Cepero both provided solid efforts on the glass, as Cepero scored twopoints and grabbed eight rebounds, while Pilakowski added four points and eight boards.

Sabrina Scott led the Buffaloes with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Kate Fagan added 13 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Maria Billingsley pitched in a career-high 11 points to give the Buffsthree players in double figures.

Nebraska coach Connie Yori said foul trouble by senior guard Margaret Richards was a key to the gamefor the Huskers.

“I thought the two key plays in the game were when Margaret Richards picked up her third foul in thefirst half and her fourth foul with one second gone in the second half,” Yori said. “She really sets the tonefor us on both ends, and when she is not on the floor we struggle both offensively and defensively.”

Along with foul trouble, Richards hit just 2-of-13 shots from the field to finish with just five points andfour rebounds in 23 minutes of action.

Colorado received a strong spurt at the end of the first half that carried into the second, racing on a 13-1 run over a seven-minute span to build a 14-point lead at 47-33 with 15:26 left to go in the game.

Johnson ended Nebraska’s eight-minute field-goal drought with a three-pointer to cut the Buff lead to11 points, but the Huskers would get no closer, as CU answered Johnson’s three-pointer with a 12-0 run tobuild a 23-point lead at 59-36.

Nebraska received strong first-half scoring efforts from Cleveland, Johnson and Roberts, who combinedfor 25 of the Huskers’ 32 points in the opening stanza. In the previous two games, those three players hadcombined for just 38 points in back-to-back losses to Texas-Pan American and No. 25 Oklahoma.

“I thought we played one of our best offensive halves this season in terms of ball movement in the firsthalf against Colorado,” Yori said. “We can definitely play smarter than we did both offensively anddefensively, but I like what we did in the first half on the offensive end.”

Cleveland, who scored NU’s first five points, came into the game without hitting a field goal in eitherof Nebraska’s previous two games, but finished the first half with nine points. Roberts led the Huskers with10 first-half points, including a pair of three-pointers, while Johnson pitched in six points.

In a well-played first half, both teams came out firing in a back-and-forth contest, with the Huskersleading by as many as three points on three occasions, and the Buffaloes heading to the locker room withtheir biggest lead at seven points.

The Huskers shot just 31 percent (18-58) from the field for the game, after opening the contest byhitting eight of their first 12 shots. NU hit just 25 percent (4-16) from three-point range, but did connecton 77.8 percent (14-18) of their free throws. The Huskers also outrebounded CU, 42-39, and committed just15 turnovers.

Colorado hit 41.3 percent (26-63) of its field goal attempts, including a blistering 58.3 percent (7-12)from three-point range. CU also hit 15-of-17 free throws (88.2 percent).

Scouting No. 4 Kansas State (16-1, 3-0)Coach Deb Patterson (Rockford College, 1979) and the Kansas State Wildcats enter Sunday’s game

with Nebraska carrying a 16-1 overall record and a perfect 3-0 mark in Big 12 action. The Wildcats are one of the most balanced teams in the Big 12. Sophomore Kendra Wecker enters

Sunday’s game as the leading scorer in the Big 12, averaging 20.3 points per game. The reigning Big 12Player of the Week, Wecker also ranks third in the league in rebounding, averaging 8.5 boards per contest.Voted the MVP of the Preseason WNIT after leading the Wildcats to the tournament title, Wecker ownsseven double-doubles on the season.

Junior center Nicole Ohlde, a first-team All-Big 12 selection a year ago, is also having a strong season.Ohlde ranks fourth in the Big 12 in scoring with 17.9 points per game, while ranking second with 8.6rebounds per contest.

Sophomore Laurie Koehn adds a perfect complement on the perimeter to Wecker and Ohlde’sdominance in the paint. The 5-8 guard is averaging 14.5 points per game while leading the Big 12 with 3.07three-pointers made per game. Koehn is shooting 43.4 percent from three-point range.

Amazingly, Koehn is not shooting the highest percentage from long range for the Wildcats. Wecker hasconnected on 46.8 percent (29-62), while Koehn has hit 46 of her 106 attempts. Sophomore forward/guard

Megan Mahoney gives KSU three dangerous threats from three-point range. The Sturgis, S.D., native hasconnected on 45.5 percent (30-66) of her long-range attempts, as Wecker, Mahoney and Koehn rank three, four and five in the league in three-point shooting percentage.

As a team, Kansas State is shooting a sizzling 40.8 percent from three-point range, while connecting on7.5 three-pointers per game. Their performance from three-point range has helped the Wildcats rank asthe second-best shooting team in the Big 12, connecting on 49.7 percent of their field-goal attempts. KSUis outscoring the opposition by 22.0 points per game (78.6-56.6), while outrebounding its opponents, 40.8-31.3 (+9.5).

Kansas State leads the overall series with Nebraska, 33-25, but the Huskers have won six of the last sevengames in the series.

Cepero, Pilakowski Give Huskers Boost off BenchNebraska volleyball All-Americans Greichaly Cepero and Laura Pilakowski have provided the

Huskers with big minutes in NU’s first two Big 12 Conference games.Playing in just their second games since joining the Huskers for practice the first time on Jan. 1, the 6-

2 forwards combined for 10 points, 15 rebounds, four blocked shots, four steals and two assists in 51 minutesof action in the loss to No. 25 Oklahoma on Jan. 11. They followed with a combined six points and 16rebounds in 47 minutes of work in the loss at Colorado.

Amazingly, Pilakowski had only practiced for 10 days before squaring off with the 2002 NCAA runner-up and three-time defending Big 12 champion Sooners. Before this season, Pilakowski had not playedbasketball at the varsity level since she was a senior at Columbus High School in 1998-99.

Pilakowski and Cepero, who were two of Nebraska’s three Co-Big 12 Players of the Year in volleyball in2002, joined the Husker basketball team during NU’s first practice of 2003.

“Laura is a very good athlete who is competitive and a winner,” Yori said. “Her intelligence, work habitsand athletic ability will allow her to help us immediately. I saw her play in high school, and I felt at the timelike she could have helped us at Creighton.”

Pilakowski, a native of Columbus, Neb., said she wanted the chance to help the Husker basketball teamwhile trying her hand again at a sport in which she thrived in high school.

“I think it is an opportunity that I don’t want to let go,” Pilakowski said. “When I was done with volleyball,it was like, what do I do now? My college volleyball career was over. When I talked to the basketball coachesthey seemed awesome. They were really positive and enthusiastic, and they let me know that they thoughtI could help the team. I guess I just wanted a chance to continue competing.”

Pilakowski, a 6-2 outside hitter for the volleyball team, is widely regarded as one of the most talentedfemale athletes in school history with a Performance Index of 2,394 points. The 2000 Nebraska HuskerPower Female Athlete of the Year has posted a 5.32-second clocking in the 40-yard dash, a 1.79 in the 10-yard dash and a 29-inch vertical leap.

In 2002, she was the most efficient outside hitter in the Big 12 Conference with a .339 hitting percentage. She ranked sixth all-time in career hitting percentage (.319), eighth in career kills (1,183) and eighth incareer attacks (2,661). She is also a three-time Verizon/CoSIDA Volleyball Academic All-American.

Pilakowski was a second-team Lincoln Journal Star Super-State selection in basketball as both a highschool junior and senior. She averaged 17.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game in both seasons forColumbus High School, which advanced to the Class A state tournament in both seasons. She was also theClass A state champion in the long jump as a sophomore for the Discoverers.

NU Makes a Little Noise with Win Over CincinnatiAfter the Huskers’ stunning upset of No. 25 Cincinnati at the Devaney Center on Dec. 15, Nebraska

received its first top-25 votes of the season by earning two points in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Pollreleased on Dec. 17. Despite a win over New Orleans, the Huskers received just one top-25 vote from thecoaches on Dec. 24. After defeating San Diego and losing to No. 15 Penn State, NU did not receive any votesin the Dec. 31 edition of the coaches poll. NU has not received votes in the Associated Press poll yet thisseason.

Although the Big 12 Conference features four teams in the AP top 25 (No. 4 Kansas State, No. 7 TexasTech, No. 20 Texas, No. 23 Oklahoma ), and one other team receiving votes (Colorado), the Huskers are oneof only five Big 12 clubs to post a win over a top-25 opponent during non-conference play, joining KansasState’s 88-66 win over then-No. 14 Penn State on Nov. 24, Oklahoma’s 66-63 win over then-No. 12 NorthCarolina on Nov. 30, Texas’ 63-62 win over No. 4 Tennessee on Dec. 21, and Oklahoma State’s stunning 60-58 win over No. 9 Arkansas on Jan. 2.

Huskers Continue to Produce at Free Throw LineNebraska is outscoring the opposition, 201-139, at the free throw line through the first 13 games, an

average of 4.8 points per game (15.5-10.7) better than its opponents at the charity stripe. The Huskers are shooting a solid 71.5 percent from the line, including a 31-for-36 (86.1 percent)

effort in a win over Rice. In Nebraska’s game against New Orleans, the Huskers hit 23-of-30 free throws, including 21-of-28 in the second half alone. NU connected on 18-of-22 free throws in the win over SanDiego and knocked down 11-of-12 free throws (91.7 percent) in the loss to Penn State.

Nebraska has outscored its opponent at the free throw in nine of 13 games so far this season. The onlythree games that opponents have outscored NU at the line came in a loss to Drake on Dec. 5 (11-15), aloss to Texas-Pan American on Jan. 5 (9-14), and a loss at Colorado (14-15). Penn State matched NU atthe line, as both teams hit 11 free throws apiece.

Last season, Nebraska was outscored, 513-394, at the free throw line. The Huskers’ production at theline was nearly four points per game less than their opponents in 2001-02.

Nebraska’s Success Starts with DefenseNebraska has been solid defensively through the first 13 games, surrendering just 59.6 points per

game. Only two Husker opponents (Penn State–83,Colorado–74), have managed more than 63 points, and only six of NU’s 13 opponents have cracked the 60-point plateau.

The Huskers opened the season by holding Grambling State to just 40 points, while Texas Southernmanaged just 48 points on Dec. 9. NU held 2002 NCAA Tournament qualifiers Creighton and Cincinnatito just 55 points each, while 2002 WNIT qualifier Rice put up just 56 points against the Huskers’ stiflingman-to-man defense. Oklahoma, the three-time defending Big 12 champions and 2002 NCAA runner-ups, managed just 57 points against NU’s gritty defense.

No. 15 Penn State scored an opponent season-high 83 points on Dec. 30, but the Lady Lions enteredthe game averaging 87 points per game to rank fifth nationally in scoring offense. Colorado scored 74points on Jan. 14, and Drake scored 63 points on Dec. 5. New Orleans produced 62 points (Dec. 22) andSan Diego managed 61 points on Dec. 28. Texas-Pan American added 61 points on Jan. 5, while Cal StateFullerton is the only other NU opponent to reach the 60-point mark in a 78-60 loss on Dec. 11.

The school record for lowest opponent scoring average in a season is 48.9 points per game in NU’sinaugural season in 1974-75. However, that record was set during a 16-game schedule in which theHuskers only played four games against current NCAA Division I opponents. Only four times in 28previous seasons has Nebraska held its opponents to a season scoring average of less than 60 points. Thelast time came in 1996-97 when NU held the opposition to just 58.7 points per game. Other sub-60seasons include: 1978-79 (59.6 ppg), 1976-77 (58.6 ppg) and 1975-76 (56.0 ppg). In no other seasonhave the Huskers held the opposition to less than 65 points per game.

In the most recent NCAA statistics released Jan. 13, Nebraska ranked 17th nationally in field goalpercentage defense, with opponents hitting just 36.0 percent of their attempts against the Huskers.

Huskers Add Four Walk-Ons to 2002-03 RosterNebraska has added four walk-on players to its roster this season, including three players during the

preseason, and a fourth, two-time volleyball All-American Laura Pilakowski (Columbus), on Jan. 1.The Husker walk-ons were vital in helping the Huskers compensate for a severe lack of numbers

during the non-conference season. Freshman guard Kala Sledge (Omaha Westside) joined the squadearly in fall conditioning, while freshman guard Lacey Hanson (Ralston) was added to the roster nearthe end of fall workouts. Freshman guard Jessie Runty (Millard North), who originally signed a letterof intent to play at Pacific out of high school, joined the club after fall practice began. The 5-7 guard satout the first semester because of NCAA transfer rules but saw the first action of her career by playing thefinal two minutes in NU’s win over New Orleans on Dec. 22. She added four minutes and her first careerassist in the win over San Diego on Dec. 28.

Hanson and Sledge both saw playing time in each of NU’s first six games, but Sledge did not seeaction against Cincinnati. Hanson has played 161 minutes through 13 games, including 27 minutesagainst Grambling State and 19 minutes each against Texas Southern, New Orleans and No. 15 PennState. She scored two points against TSU, while grabbing one rebound and dishing out one assist to helpthe Huskers survive first-half foul trouble by Jina Johansen and Amanda Cleveland. Hanson was alsoon the floor during the entire final 9:25 of the game with Drake, after Alexa Johnson fouled out. WithHanson in the game, the Huskers cut the lead from 25 points to just four points in under nine minutes. She hit the first three-pointer of her career in the Huskers’ win over No. 25 Cincinnati. She dished out acareer-high two assists in NU’s win over San Diego.

Sledge scored the first points of her career against Texas Southern (Dec. 9), draining a three-pointer

Yori Working to Establish Foundation at NebraskaFirst-year Nebraska coach Connie Yori has spent her first seven months at Nebraska trying to lay the

cornerstones of a successful basketball program. After accepting the offer to lead the Husker programon June 24, Yori began working feverishly to get a solid coaching staff in place to help make up for losttime on the recruiting trail.

She accomplished her first mission by putting together an outstanding staff, led by former Universityof Nebraska-Kearney head coach Amy Stephens, former Davidson head coach John Filar and formerCreighton assistant coach Angela Timmons.

Along with the remarkable experience on her coaching staff, Yori also applied some excellentcoaching backgrounds to her administrative staff with the hiring of former Concordia head coach MicahParker as director of operations and former Husker Naciska Gilmore as an administrative assistant/video specialist.

Combined, Yori’s first staff has amassed 581 coaching victories over the past 13 seasons. Yori has beenresponsible for collecting 202 of those victories, including a 7-6 mark in her first year at Nebraska and170 wins in 10 seasons at Creighton.

Stephens, who ranks No. 3 on Nebraska’s career scoring list with 1,976 points, had plenty of successof her own as a head coach at Nebraska-Kearney the past eight seasons. Stephens compiled a 197-43record, while leading the Lopers to seven straight NCAA Division II Tournament appearances.

Filar added a 102-135 record in 10 seasons at Davidson, after starting its program from scratchbefore the 1991-92 season. Parker posted an 80-41 mark at Concordia and led the Bulldogs to the Sweet16 in the 2002 NAIA Tournament.

The 2002 Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year, Yori led the Bluejays to a 24-7 overall markand a 16-2 MVC record last season to capture the league’s regular-season and tournament titles. Yori’ssuccess last season capped a 170-115 career mark at Creighton. Her teams made two trips to the NCAATournament in 1994 and 2002. Before taking over the top job with the Bluejays, Yori led NCAA DivisionIII Loras College to a 25-25 record in two seasons from 1990 to 1992. She also served as an assistant coachat Creighton from 1986 to 1989.

Yori was one of the top players in Creighton history, and she still owns the school record for careerscoring average at 20.3 points per game. She ranks as CU’s No. 3 all-time leading scorer with 2,010 points, and she had her No. 25 jersey retired. She was inducted into the Creighton Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992.

A native of Ankeny, Iowa, the 39-year-old Yori is married to Kirk Helms.

The Huskers will also play NCAA qualifier Iowa State twice during the 2002 season, along with singlegames against Texas Tech, Texas and Baylor, which all won games in the NCAA Tournament last season.

Overall, Nebraska will play 15 of 27 regular-season games against teams that advanced to postseasoncompetition last season, including 14 contests with 2002 NCAA Tournament teams.

Last season, all seven Big 12 Conference teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament earned top-four seeds, which gave them the right to host first- and second-round games in the 64-team field. Allseven teams won their first-round games and five teams advanced to the Sweet 16.

Oklahoma became the first team to represent the Big 12 in the NCAA Women’s Final Four, advancingto the national title game. Colorado advanced to the Elite Eight, losing to the Sooners for the right toadvance to the Final Four. Texas Tech, Texas and Kansas State all advanced to the Sweet 16, while Baylorand Iowa State both fell in the tournament’s second round. Nebraska played 16 of 30 games against 2002NCAA Tournament games a year ago, and Husker opponents combined to post a 20-12 record in the BigDance. NU was 3-13 against NCAA competition with wins over Kansas State, Creighton and Weber State.

Texas Tech Preseason Pick to Win Big 12The Big 12 Conference coaches and media representatives covering the league agreed that Texas

Tech is the favorite to win the Big 12 title this season. The Lady Raiders edged Kansas State by just one point in both the writers’ and coaches’ preseason

polls, setting the stage for what should be a wide open race during the conference season. Texas was thepreseason pick to finish third in both polls, while defending NCAA runner-up Oklahoma was pickedfourth in the preseason by both writers and coaches.

Iowa State, Colorado, Missouri and Baylor filled out the next four spots in the writers’ poll, while thecoaches went with Colorado, Iowa State, Baylor and Missouri, respectively in spots five through eight.Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Kansas and Nebraska completed both polls in the same order.

Kansas State junior center Nicole Ohlde was the preseason player of the year in both preseason polls, while Oklahoma’s Maria Villarroel was the newcomer of the year and Texas Tech’s Erin Grant was thefreshman of the year in both polls.

Cannon, Wendelin to Redshirt This SeasonKeasha Cannon will take a redshirt season in 2002-03 because of a medical condition not related to

basketball. Cannon emerged as one of the top newcomers in the Big 12 Conference in 2001-02. The 5-10 point guard from Kansas City, Kan., led the Huskers in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals, averaging12.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.1 steals per game.

Cannon’s performance helped her capture Big 12 Conference Newcomer-of-the-Year honors in votingby league coaches. She was also an honorable-mention all-conference selection, while earning a spoton the Kansas City Star’s Big 12 All-Defense Team. Cannon was a three-time conference rookie-of-the-week honoree (Dec. 3, Dec. 17, Feb. 11), claiming her third award after averaging 26.0 points, 11.5rebounds and 3.5 steals in two wins over Kansas State and Kansas.

As a basketball freshman, Cepero averaged 25.6minutes per game, while playing just 12.7 minutesper game as a sophomore last season. She could seeher playing time increase this season because ofNebraska's decreased depth inside.

As a senior setter on the volleyball team, Ceperowas one of three Huskers to earn Big 12 Co-Player-of-the-Year honors, joining Amber Holmquist andLaura Pilakowski.

While Cepero is playing her third season with theHuskers, Pilakowski decided to join the basketballsquad for the first time and also practiced for the firsttime on Jan. 1.

Cepero, a three-time All-American in volleyball, has helped the Huskers immediately at her forwardposition, helping replace junior center Katie Morse, who suffered a season-ending knee injury againstCincinnati on Dec. 15.
