soccer GAME NOTES Last Time Out: The Bulldogs (1-5-1, 0-1) earned their first victory of the season, and the first under head coach Billy Lesesne, on Sunday vs. Samford. A penalty kick by senior defender Bella Hartley in the 14’ lifted the Bulldogs over Samford 1-0. Georgia held the opposition to just four shots on goal. The Bulldogs buckled down and gritted their way to victory when Samford amped it up late in the game attempting to tie the score. Goalkeeper Louise Hogrell finished the game with four saves, including several punch- outs on dangerous crosses sent in by Samford. The sophomore played all 90 minutes in goal. Looking at the Tigers: LSU (5-1-2, 0-1) has experienced a good amount of success early on in the 2015 season. The Tigers are coming off of a weekend that saw them lose a tough overtime match on the road against Alabama last Friday night in their SEC opener. They were able to bounce back and knock off 21st-ranked Duke at home on Sunday. The Tigers rely heavily on sophomore Jorian Baucom and junior Summer Clarke to do most of their goal scoring. The two forwards, combined, have 12 of the team’s 16 goal this season, with Baucom’s eight goals leading the SEC. The early part of LSU’s season has been highlighted with wins over Oregon, Minnesota, Indiana and Duke. The Tigers lone loss came at the hands of Alabama. They tied both Northwestern State and Ball State. Goal-Scoring Gutierrez: Two of the Bulldogs’ three goals scored this season have come from an unconventional goal-scorer. Defensive-midfielder Mariel Gutierrez has proven to be quite an asset to the Bulldogs offense drilling two shots already on the year. The first, a header vs. No. 20 Texas Tech came in the 34’ after Gutierrez took a nice assist from Stephanie Krouskos and snuck in past the opposition. The second, and the most impres- sive shot of the season for the Bulldogs, came in the 35’ against No. 17 South Carolina when Gutierrez fired a missile from 35-yards out into the top right corner of the Game- cocks net. Senior Stepping Up: Georgia was awarded a penalty kick in its match against Samford after a handball was called on a Samford defender in the 14’. The Bulldogs called on one of their senior leaders, defender Bella Harltey to take the shot. The Wheat Ridge, Colo. native didn’t disappoint, burying the ball into the right side of the net to give her team the 1-0 edge. Rios Earns Honor: Senior midfielder Liliana Rios was named a recipient of the 2015-16 Joel Eves Scholar Athlete Award, which is presented to the male and female student- athlete at UGA with the highest GPA’s entering their fall semester of their senior year. Rios earned a 3.97 GPA while majoring in biology. Crowder Named Top-100 Player by TopDrawerSoccer.com: Junior forward Marion Crowder was recently named the 86th best player in the country by TopDrawerSoccer.com. Crowder led the team in goals in 2013 (11) and finished second on the team last year with 6 goals. She was named Second-Team All-SEC for her efforts. georgia soccer GAME NOTES

Three Georgia Soccer Games To Be Televised Nationally: Three different Georgia soccer games are scheduled to be aired nationally during the 2015 season. The first will come when the Bulldogs head to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to take on LSU. Georgia will play the Tigers on Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. ET on the SEC Network. On Sept. 27 Georgia is set to host Texas A&M at 1 p.m. ET in a game that will be televised nationally by ESPNU. On Oct. 29, Georgia will host Florida on senior night at 7 p.m. ET in a game that will be televised on the SEC Network.

Several other games will be broadcast live on digital platforms. Fans with select cable provid-ers will be able to view the contests. Georgia’s trip to Wake Forest on Aug. 23 will be shown on ESPN3. The Bulldogs matches against South Carolina, Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Alabama will all be broadcast on the SEC Network+.

A New Era: The Bulldogs enter the 20th season in program history under the direction of first-year head coach Billy Lesesne, who spent the last 14 seasons as the associate head coach at Duke University. Lesesne helped guide the Blue Devils to the 2011 NCAA College Cup and was named the Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year for the season. The first-year head coach inherits a team that earned a berth in the 2014 NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament.

Recapping 2014: Last year’s edition of the Georgia women’s soccer team accomplished several impressive feats, including earning a spot in the 2014 NCAA Tournament. The feat marked the fifth time in eight years that the program had advanced to the NCAA tournament.

The 2014 squad saw several multi-game win streaks, including a five game streak that had victories over two NCAA tournament qualifying teams. The Bulldogs were ranked as high as 16th nationally in the NSCAA poll. The month of October saw a three-game winning streak against SEC opponents: South Carolina, Tennessee and Mississippi State.

The Bulldogs opened up the 2014 SEC tournament with a win over Arkansas via penalty kicks before falling to No. 1 seed Texas A&M in the second round. Georgia’s season ended with a 2-1 loss against UCF.
