The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund was established in 1981 to promote the full participation of Latinos in the American political process, from citizenship to public service. Founded by the late Congressman Edward R. Roybal and Dr. Harry Pachon, NALEO Educational Fund is a 501(c)3 non-profit, non-partisan organization that achieves its mission through integrated strategies that include increasing the effectiveness of Latino policymakers, mobilizing the Latino community to engage in civic life and promoting policies that advance Latino political engagement.

The work of NALEO Educational Fund is centralized in three different areas:

• Constituency Services: NALEO Educational Fund provides services to itsconstituents of NALEO members that include professional and leadershipdevelopment programs. NALEO members form the largest network ofLatino elected and appointed officials and community leaders committedto improving the lives of their constituents in the United States. Benefitsinclude conferences, webinars, technical assistance and networkingopportunities and publications, among others.

• Policy: NALEO Educational Fund gathers and analyzes critical data on Latinovoters and policymakers, and promotes policies primarily at the federallevel to ensure Latinos can fully participate in American democracy.

• Civic Engagement: Through strategic initiatives, NALEO Educational Fundengages and mobilizes Latinos to participate in the electoral process, assistsLawful Permanent Residents to become U.S. citizens and be fully counted inthe decennial census.

2020 was an unprecedented year with the United States simultaneously experiencing the worst public health crisis in over a century, a reckoning on systemic racism, and the worst attacks on our institutions and democracy since the Civil War. As our nation continues to face these realities in 2021, it is critical that NALEO Educational Fund is poised to face how these issues will affect a wide range of policy decisions affecting Latinos for the foreseeable future.

NALEO Educational Fund is governed by a 15-member Board of Directors and a 35-member Board of Advisors. Headquartered in Los Angeles, NALEO EducationalFund maintains offices in Houston, Orlando, New York City, and Washington D.C.It employs about 70 full-time staff with an annual budget of $10.5 million.

NALEO Educational Fund’s next Chief Development Officer (CDO) will provide critical leadership and strategic direction to help fulfill the organization’s mission.A seasoned and proven leader, the CDO is responsible for directing the organization’s development enterprise which includes the fund development and special events team members. The CDO provides oversight for all elements of philanthropic development for the program divisions and overall investor relations. The CDO works closely with the CEO to identify, cultivate and steward major investors. In addition, the CDO works closely with the senior leadership team, promoting a collaborative and cohesive team that advances the work of the organization and enhances NALEO Educational Fund’s culture of philanthropy.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, Arturo Vargas, and partnering with the leadership team, the CDO will provide strategic counsel across the organization with regard to development strategy. The CDO will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer in the development and preparation of revenue projections and the compilation of financial documents for grant reports. The CDO will also support the fundraising activities of the NALEO Educational Fund Board of Directors and Board of Advisors. The CDO will bring a range of experience in development strategy and tactics, communications, and expertise in working with NALEO Educational Fund’s internal and external communities and constituencies.

An Expert in Development and Fundraising

The CDO will be a results-driven and experienced leader in the field of development with a measurable track record of success within a complex environment. This leader will be energized by the prospect of leading the development department, implementing processes and best practices. It is paramount for this candidate to have a broad and deep knowledge of development with a proven track record of securing significant gifts and evidence of exceptional cultivation and stewardship. This leader will grow and enhance the organization’s pipeline to support donor prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and relationship management. Through strong written, oral and presentation skills, this leader will be a natural partner to NALEO Educational Fund’s internal and external communities and constituencies. The CDO will be able to work effectively with culturally and politically diverse populations. A tactical leader, the successful candidate will have a strong data and analysis orientation and a proven ability to use metrics to drive development decisions and achieve strategic objectives. The CDO will oversee the maintenance of donor management tools, employ online fundraising tools and identify new prospects, trends and tactics to meet fundraising objectives.

With a proven record of converting strategy into effective execution, the CDO will be a builder with the ability to set priorities decisively, delegate responsibilities, assure accountability and allocate resources to ensure results. The CDO will partner with the CEO and act as a professional advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of development, special events, and in meeting their annual fundraising obligations. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Salary range: $150,000-$180,000 based on experience. NALEO Educational Fund offers a competitive benefits package that includes generous vacation, sick leave, medical, dental, vision, life insurance and retirement coverage.
