Day 1: Arrive Beijing

Welcome to China!

Combining both modern and traditional architecture, Beijing is one of the oldest cities in the world, with a rich history dating back three millennia. With mountains surrounding the inland city on three sides, in addition to the old inner and outer city walls, Beijing was strategically poised and developed to be the residence of the emperor and thus was the perfect location for the imperial capital.

Day 2: Discover Beijing

Full-day (8 hours) guided tour in Beijing.

Visit Tiananmen Square with the National Flag Pole and the main sights of Beijing: the Monument to the People's Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, the National Museum of China, and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. Tiananmen Square is within the top ten largest city squares in the world. It has great cultural significance as it was the site of several important events in Chinese history.

Of course, today you will see the symbol of China, the world-famous Great Wall of China. It is the collective name of a series of fortification systems generally built across the historical northern borders of China to protect and consolidate territories of Chinese states and empires against various nomadic groups of the steppe and their polities. Several walls were being built from as early as the 7th century BC by ancient Chinese states.

Day 3: The Adventure Begins

This is the day to start your train journey!

Trans Mongolian train cuts across the Gobi desert and Mongolia and then crosses Siberia. The entire road from Beijing to Moscow makes 7,621 km (4,735 miles) and if you do it non stop you will spend 6 days onboard! However, we do a hop on / hop off train tour and split the journey to a few legs.

The first leg of your journey will last just about one day.

Train Beijing - Ulaanbaatar has a deluxe soft sleeper (2-berth compartment, 1st class) and soft sleeper (4-berth compartment, 2nd class).

Please be ready for quite a long stop at the border between China and Mongolia.

Day 4: Terelj National Park

Welcome to Mongolia!

Your driver will be waiting at the train station to take you to Terelj National Park (80 km). It is the third biggest protected area in Mongolia. The park is one of the most beautiful places in the country. It is a rare opportunity to explore ancient nomadic routes and watch the way of life which might soon disappear at all.

Today you will see Turtle Rock and Temple of Aryavalokiteshvara and Aryabal Monastery. Other Rock Formation such as Praying Lama Rock/Old Man reading a Book we shall pass by. Also, visit a local family to learn about the nomadic way of life.

In the evening, enjoy delicious traditional Mongolian dinner and spend overnight at the Ger camp in Terelj National Park. Unique Ger experience is a must-do when you are in Mongolia!

Day 5: Discover Mongolia

Today we will explore Terelj National Park. By the way, there will be hiking.

On the way back to Ulaanbaatar, you will see famous and astonishing Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex.

By far Mongolia’s most recognizable landmark and one of the world’s largest equestrian statues, the 131-foot-tall (40-meter-tall) Genghis Khan Statue Complex (Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex) towers over the surrounding landscape.

In the evening, you will arrive at Ulaanbaatar, watch Tumen Ekh-traditional folklore concert at the restaurant, and spend night at the hotel.

Day 6: Naadam Festival

Get ready for the Naadam, the biggest cultural event in Mongolia!

Full-day guided touring the festival, watching competitions and performances, learning the national culture of wonderful Mongolia at its best.

We book special seats to allow maximum comfort today, however, please mind we will need to walk to and from the stadium. Please note that while we’re doing everything possible, the schedule of the day might change at late notice due to logistics complications and restrictions implied by the local authorities.

Day 7: Naadam Festival

Enjoy the second day of Naadam Festival.

After the end of the festival, take a transfer to the train station to board the train to Irkutsk, Russia.

The train will be crossing the Mongolian-Russian border. Please be patient, sometimes it can last for a while.

Day 8: Arrive Lake Baikal & Tour

Arrive at Irkutsk and take a transfer to Listvyanka village at Lake Baikal shore.

Visit Baikal Museum, Shaman Rock, St. Nicholas church and a Fish Market. Baikal Museum is a splendid museum where information about lake Baikal wildlife is kept, studied and exhibited: including the origins of the lake, the endemic flora and fauna from the surface of the lake to its maximum depth, an excellent model of the lake, etc. Shaman Rock is a natural boundary between the deepest lake in the world and the only river that flows out of the lake—the Angara river. Apparently, locals have thousands of legends about this place, which is believed to be the house of one of the Buryat gods.

In the evening, enjoy Lake Baikal boat cruise. It is one of the most exciting trips. It is a great opportunity to get acquainted with the main attractions of Baikal. During the cruise, you will enjoy the vastness of the lake and magnificent landscapes, feel the power and energy of the Siberian land.

Day 9: Discover Irkutsk & Train to Urals

Today you will take the transfer to Irkutsk to have a guided city tour. But first we will make a stop at Taltsy Open Air Siberian Museum.

Taltsy is located 20 kilometers away from Listvyanka. The exposition features wooden buildings brought from all over Siberia! Right now, 40 landmarked buildings and 8000 artifacts dated by 17-19 centuries are presented as part of the exhibition. Here you will see the traditional folk-show and have a lunch. And even try Russian vodka!

In the afternoon, we will arrive at Irkutsk and explore the city.

In the evening, take a transfer to the train station to board the train to Yekaterinburg.

Day 10: The Journey Goes On

A long train journey is a fine opportunity to relax and calm down. Read the favourite book, talk to fellow travelers and enjoy unique landscapes of Russia behind your window.

This train experience lasts for 2 days. Each train is equipped with a dining-car where you will be able to have a rest at any time. But nevertheless, we advise to get some food in advance.

Russian branded trains offer a high standard of service, design, comfort and additional services. Most trains are air-conditioned and have electric heating and TVs. Some also have Internet connections and cable television. Discovery Russia uses the best available trains for each leg of your train journey.

Staff is always available to offer passengers hot tea or coffee, make the beds, provide all necessary information en route and hand out periodicals and safety belts to passengers.

Day 11: Discover Yekaterinburg: between Europe and Asia

It was nearly three hundred years ago when this town was founded on the eastern slopes of the Urals mountains on the banks of the beautiful Iset river.

You will be met at the train station. We take off for a guided city tour and drive outside of the city to visit one of its most remarkable attractions: the Europe-Asia border, where you can put your feet on two different continents at once.

Also, we shall visit the largest in Russia open-air military museum Verkhnyaya Pyshma.

Drive back to the city, check-in and rest.

Day 12: Train to Kazan

In the morning, take a transfer to the train station and board the train to Kazan. The trip will take the whole day.

Planning your Trans Siberian and Trans Mongolian railway holidays, we use the best Russian trains available. There is 1st class, 2-berth compartments with shower (2 showers per carriage, shared) and 2nd class, 4-berth compartment (no shower).

All passengers get a proper flat berth to sleep in, provided with all necessary bedding, convertible to a seat for day use. There are washrooms and toilets along the corridor.

And here is more. The long journey is the best way to make new friends!

In the evening, your driver will meet you at the train station to take you to the cosy hotel in downtown.

Day 13: Discover Kazan

Today we have a really busy day to explore the main sights of Kazan. First of all, enjoy the tour to UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Kremlin of Kazan, with the professional English-speaking guide.

Our next point is the magnificent Kul Sharif Mosque. The impressive Qol-Şärif Mosque (also transliterated as Kul-Sharif) is the most important mosque in Tatarstan and one of the largest mosques in Europe.

As Kazan is the centre of Tatar culture, we will also visit the old Tatar villages to try a local Tatar tea. Later, have a culinary master-class of Tatar dishes at a traditional restaurant.

During our city tour will also see Kazan Arena, Millennium Bridge, Mardzhani Mosque,Kaban Lake, Bogoroditsky Monastery, Peter and Paul Cathedral, Bauman Street, Freedom Square. In the evening, transfer to the train station to board the train to Moscow.

Day 14: Mighty Kremlin & The City

Full-day (8 hours) guided sightseeing tour in Moscow.

On arrival, have a breakfast, time to refresh and start the tour. Visit the Moscow Kremlin, the very heart of Moscow and Russia! Walk along monumental walls, golden-domed cathedrals and, of course, most recognizable towers with iconic red stars. Explore the treasure of its world-famous museums including the Armory.

Then, make essential Russian photos at Red Square with Lenin’s Mausoleum & Saint Basil's Cathedral (outside), famous GUM department store, pass by the Bolshoi Theatre, KGB Headquarters & other attractions ofdowntown.

The name "Kremlin" means "fortress inside a city", this construction had to protect the city from enemies. The Moscow Kremlin acquired the status of a sacral symbol representing the power of the great country.

During the tour, you also take a ride by the famous Moscow metro with its lavishly decorated “underground palaces”.
