Mechanised Sweeping – Total Road Length swept :- 253 Kms/day
Efforts taken for reduction in garbage:-•Waste going to dumping ground reduced from 8500 MT per day (in 2015)
to around 6900 MT per day (in 2019)
•Treating garbage using any suitable scientific treatment has been made
compulsory for Bulk Generators generating waste, more than 100 kg.
Accordingly, 1698 bulk generators are processing waste.
• House to House Collection – 99.15%
• Source segregation – Currently around 82%. In near future, it is targeted
to achieve 100 %.
•Community Bins are being eliminated and House to House Collection is
being promoted.being promoted.
Dry Waste Collection & Sorting Centres [DWC & SC]
• No of Dry Waste Centres – 46, Total Dry Waste – 188 MT/day, operated
by associations of Ragpickers. They are provided 94 nos of dedicated
dry waste collection vehicles by MCGM for house to house collection
and transportation of dry waste.
• The new compactors having separate provision for collection of Dry
Waste unload the segregated dry waste at centres.
• The revenue generated from the activity is kept by the ragpickers.
• EOI floated for 5 nos. of Dry Waste centre having capacity of 100 • EOI floated for 5 nos. of Dry Waste centre having capacity of 100
MT/day expandable up to 250 metric tons per day.
Underground Bins- introduced for first time in Mumbai
• Underground bins are installed for first time at 4 locations in Mumbai.
• Salient features include aesthetic twin door waste disposal, separate
for Wet and Dry Waste.
• Compactor compatible standard size bins for collection and storage of
waste underground of 1.1 Cu mtr capacity each,.
• Proposal for installation at additional 40 locations under process.

•Major thrust has been given to improve the beach cleanliness.

machines & with revised methodology and revised contract terms
& conditions.
•After appointment of new agencies , the levels of cleanliness at
Juhu & Varsova beach, Chimbai and Waringpada beach have gone
up and positive image has been created in the minds of the citizens.
VTMS- Vehicle Tracking and Management System
•All the refuse vehicles are being monitored through real-timeVehicle Tracking and Management System.•The system will be controlled through a modern “Control Room”which will monitor activities round the clock.•The VTMS system will help in maintaining transparency.
WMS- Weigh Bridge Management System
The integration of weigh bridges at Disposal sites with the capturing of
number plate of refuse vehicle is in effect. The data of vehicle captured by
the camera & uploaded in weigh bridge management system alongwith
weight of the vehicle (laden & unladen) is being referred.
� Partnership between Citizensand MCGM for better wastemanagement & other civicissues)
� Objective is to strengthen andempower citizen groups forparticipation in theenforcement of the SWM. Rules,

•Modernised RTS is proposed at Mahalaxmi as it is free from CRZ.•The land of Versova Lagoon and Kurla Refuse transfer station is owned by MMRDA. Hence redevelopment is affected.• The present land of Gorai Refuse Transfer Station is on the name of Government of Maharashtra. The necessary correspondence for transferring the land on the name of MCGM is already done & proposal is under process with Revenue Secretary Government of Maharashtra.

• The Gorai Dumpsite was in operation from 1972. Spread over an area of 19.6 Ha with 2.34 Million Tons of waste in a heap of height around 26 M. was closed for dumping in the year 2007. The work of Scientific Closure was completed in the year 2009

Collection, Transportation, Processing & Disposal of C&D Waste in Mumbai
� Project Features –
� Capacity of the project– Two modules of 600 TPD
� Area – 2 Ha (1 Ha for each module)
� Construction period – 9 months (including period for obtaining
clearances)
� Operation & Maintenance period – 20 years from commencement of the
project.
� Consultant M/s Tandon Urban Solutions Pvt. Ltd. has been appointed for
this project for review & modifications in the present tender, cost
estimation and bid evaluation.
Acquisition of land at Karwale for MCGM’s SWM Project –� GoM has allotted around 52.10 Ha land at Karwale for MCGM’s SWM Project.
Out of the total land 39.90 Ha land is Govt. land & 12.20 Ha land is Private land.
� Present Status –
� Initially physical possession of 12 Ha (30 Acres) land is given to MCGM on
16.02.2019.
� MCGM is in the process of inviting tenders for appointment of consultant for
development of Sanitary Landfill at Karwale.
� Also, process of rehabilitation of 79 PAPs and acquisition of remaining govt. &
private land is being done in co-ordination with the office of Collector, Thane,
Tehsildar Amabrnath, Sub- Divisional Officer-Ulhasnagar.Tehsildar Amabrnath, Sub- Divisional Officer-Ulhasnagar.
Acquisition of land at Mulund (East) near Airoli bridge for MCGM’s
SWM Project –� GoM has allotted around 32.77 Ha land at Mulund (East) near Airoli bridge for
MCGM’s SWM Project.
� Present Status –
� Joint demarcation & physical possession of the said land is not yet completed due
to the objections raised by the staff of salt commissioner & lessee of the said
land.
� There is dispute regarding the ownership of the land between GoM, GoI and the
lessee.
C&D Waste Management Project
Collection, Transportation, Processing & Disposal of Construction &
Demolition (C&D) Waste in Mumbai -2 Plants of each of 600 TPD
Tender invited and being finalised.
Eastern Suburb – Plant to be set up on land available with MCGM.
Western Suburb - Plant to be set up on private land.
Time Line:- 12 Months for construction and commissioning of plant and Time Line:- 12 Months for construction and commissioning of plant and
further 15 Years O&M.
�Collection of C&D Waste Debris on Call and Unclaimed Debris –
Generation approx. 1200 TPD.
�As per Hon’ble Supreme Courts order, the C&D waste from building
construction sites are transported & unloaded at approved designated
unloading site in or outside Mumbai.
�Presently C&D waste is utilized as covering material at dumping ground.

Independent collection and transportation system for
Debris
• Debris on Call Service has been started at ward level from
March 2014 for collecting debris generated from
tenantable/household repairs at nominal rates.

Wards whereby the citizens can book for this service.
• Till date around 1,50,000 MT of C & D waste is lifted under
this scheme.
• The collected debris is used for landfill activities like soil
cover and preparing internal roads.
Capacity Building of SWM Staff
• Regular training program of conservancy staff are conductedat Central Training Institute & Research Centre.•Awareness has been created amongst sweepers to ensure thatno garbage is being burnt and that different types of wastecollected after sweeping are stored separately before handingover to collection vehicle.• Monthly training sessions regarding segregation of waste and storage, processing techniques of domestic treatment of wet storage, processing techniques of domestic treatment of wet waste and attending complaints of citizens are conducted at chowky level. •Training is also given to ground level staff to avoid burning of garbage, littering by citizens and motivating citizens to store different types of waste in separate receptacles or hand over to authorised agencies.
Appeal to the citizens
•Not to throw Garbage on roads . Help in maintaining roads litter-free.• Not throw Garbage in Nallas to particularly avoid flooding . The garbage comes back on beaches.•Segregate waste into dry and wet categories and compost wet waste at household level.• Dispose off dry waste directly through resellers.• Dispose off dry waste directly through resellers.• Post your complaints on MCGM app. Download the app• Bulk Generators should segregate-process waste “in-situ” • Active participation of citizens in process of waste management is solicited.
