From The East
Greeting Brothers: I hope all of you are doing well. April flew by as it was a very busy month for Oviedo Lodge. Our picnic was a great success with about 40 in attendance. It was a beautiful day and it was great to see that everyone brought their friends and family to enjoy it with us. I want to send a big thank you to Brother Junior Warden Wayne Grigsby and his wife Terri for helping with last minute needs for the picnic. Thank you to Brother Hunter for his assistance with cooking. Also a big thank you to all the officers and members of the lodge that brought side dishes and other essentials most especially Brother Senior Warden Tomm Hildebrandt who handled a great portion of the things needed. We currently have four entered apprentices that are working very hard on their studies and 4 candidates that are almost through with the petition process. That being said we have a very busy month ahead of us. We will have two entered apprentice degrees one in the month of May and one in the month of June. Both will be headed by Brother Wayne Grigsby who has shown he can do a phenomenal job in the East. If you desire to assist in the degrees please see Brother Wayne. Most positions are covered however we will need conductors. Dates will be released shortly as we are still planning them with the candidates. On May 21st we will be traveling as a group to St.Johns Lodge No. 37 in Deland who will be conferring the Sublime Degree of Master Mason for our fellow craft brother Marian Szczepanski. Dinner at 6pm with the degree to follow at 7pm. If you wish to carpool we are meeting at Oviedo lodge no later than 430pm. The 190th Annual Grand Communication is on May 27th, 28th and 29th at the Rosen Plaza Hotel. Bro. Tomm and I will be in attendance as well as several other brothers of our lodge. If you have questions regarding the upcoming legislation, please feel free to reach out to myself, or any other officer.
We will be DARK on 27 May 2019 (our second stated communication)!! Last but not least, I need to thank Worshipful Brother Treasurer Greg Seavers for preparing the monthly trestle board. Without his hard work and sacrifice to the lodge we would not be able to attain the level of excellence he continues to provide. Thanks again Greg as you are a true asset to the lodge! Thank you everyone for your dedication to Oviedo Lodge and have a great month. Fraternally, Joseph Tedesco Worshipful Master
From The West Greetings from The West, We at Oviedo Masonic Lodge No. 243 had some educational triumphs in April leading some Brothers into preparing for upcoming Proficiency Returns to be held this month of May. On May 21st, we will be supporting Brother Szczepanski’s being raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason at St. Johns Lodge No. 37 F&AM in Deland, FL. We want to extend our thanks and gratitude to St Johns Lodge for performing courtesy work for us. We are currently preparing for an upcoming Entered Apprentice Degree for 3 Candidates in June. The date is still be determined, but please watch for the date announcement so you can attend the degree. I just want to say how very proud I am of all these Brothers as they continue to strive in educational excellence. Keep up the good work! I again want to thank you for the honor of being your Senior Warden for 2019 and I am very humbled. Fraternally Yours, Thomas J. Hildebrandt Senior Warden
From The South Greetings from the South! Well, our annual picnic was another huge success for
social events for this year! I want to thanks everyone for bringing side dishes to share as well as helping with setup/clean up. I believe a good time was had by all! We will definitely have to do this again soon! We even had a gentleman approach us for
information which resulted in a petition days following the picnic.
Due to Grand Lodge, May is going to be a little slower. As of right now there will not be a dinner at the stated communication in May.
Charity has been a winner this year. We were able to
double our charity contribution for the Month of April. We are planning the same for our Charity for May!
We will continue our landscaping improvements for the Lodge building and could use any help our brothers can give.
So, short month, short news from the South.
Go in peace my brothers and come out and see your lodge sometime!
Everyone have a safe and happy month! Fraternally,
Wayne Grigsby
Junior Warden
Secretary’s Corner
My Brothers: Many thanks to those of you who have paid your dues for 2019. Unfortunately we still have almost 30% who have not done so. Please remember that we all agreed to promptly pay our dues at the beginning of the Masonic year. Late payment of dues creates a financial burden on your Lodge (and a cranky Secretary). Preferred payment method is by Check or Money Order, using the return envelope that will be provided with your invoice. If you’ve misplaced this, please email me and I will send you the information. If you are a Perpetual Member, please consider a timely return with your contribution to the Masonic Home Endowment Fund, and/or possibly one of the other listed voluntary contributions. Also please notify me of any change of address, phone numbers, and your affiliation with any appendant Masonic organization, so we can keep your records up-to-date. Fraternally, W:. Steve Kimball Secretary, PM [email protected]

THE CUP OF BROTHERLY LOVE
On September 7, 1929, after rising his son Brother Norman B. Hickox, Master of Events Lodge No. 524,
Illinois, formally presented a beautiful silver cup to the lodge. He also presented a book of travel and a
specially prepared carrying case. The cup was to be sent on a journey, traveling always from West to
East by land sea or air, and always in the custody of a Master Mason.
On November 19, 1929, the book and cup were taken to Ashlar Lodge No. 308 in Chicago to start the
journey. The book recorded the places and circumstances of each visit of the cup.
On the journey the cup was received by more that 150 host lodges. It touched places all over the world.
On May 24, 1958, a homecoming celebration was held at Evans Lodge to commemorate the return of the
cup to the lodge. The Cup of Brotherly Love, an illustrated account of this odyssey, was published by the
Masonic Service Association in 1959.
AN IRISH MESSAGE ON STONE
In 1860, at Limerick, Ireland, there was found in a small chapel a stone dated 1517 with the following
inscription:
"I will serve to live with love and care, Upon the level, by the square."
