Dear Team ANAND and friends,

I am again with you through this first issue of INTERACTION for 2020. I am sure you and your families enjoyed the Christmas and New Year season and have ushered in 2020 with hope and optimism.

The year 2019 closed with both the Global and Indian Economy performing worse than expected on growth numbers. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) downgraded the 2019 estimates of Global growth to 2.9% against its year beginning expectation of 3.5%. With some risks having partly receded with the announcement of U.S.-China Phase I trade deal and Brexit happening finally, the global growth forecast for 2020 has improved marginally to 3.3% though this recovery in 2020 remains uncertain with the overall mood still muted and cautious.

IMF also lowered the growth estimate of Indian Economy to 4.8% against the Indian Government’s estimate of 5%, lowest in a decade, citing stress in the non-banking financial sector and weak rural income growth as the major factors. The Indian economy has had almost six consecutive quarters of decline in growth. Fiscal deficit for the year is also expected to climb to 3.8%. The retail inflation rose to a nearly six-year high of 7.35% in December. With the recently unveiled Indian Budget also missing to provide enough impetus to kickstart growth, the expectation for GDP growth for 2020 remains muted at 5.5% to 6%, reflecting some recovery. Abolition of Dividend distribution tax on Corporates in the Budget however, is good for foreign companies investing in India and is likely to give a boost to foreign direct investment (FDI).

2019 was one of the toughest years for the Indian automobile industry in the last two decades. The slowdown which continues into 2020, is one of the longest running. It has affected all segments of the industry and has set the industry back by at least three years. In fact for the worst affected medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) segment, the peak production level of 2018 may get back only by 2022 or 2023. The reasons have been partly cyclical, partly structural and partly regulation driven, which I have gone over in some detail in my column in the last INTERACTION. As mentioned above, with a lack-lustre Budget and hardly any incentives for boosting growth, we have to be prepared for another challenging year ahead with marginal improvement over 2019 and that too coming towards the second half of 2020.

At ANAND, with various mitigation measures instituted in the areas of revenue and productivity improvement, cost optimisation, cash conservation and break-even point (BEP) reduction, we have been able to contain the adverse impact of the downturn to some extent. As against an expected decline of around 12% to 15% in vehicle sales and around 10% for the Auto Components Industry, ANAND is expecting to close 2019 with sales of a little short of Rs. 100 billion,

Message from the CEO

a decline of 4% over 2018, with net margins also coming down.

With 2020 also expected to be a difficult year, we need to continue our efforts to find more areas for improvement in operating parameters and to take advantage of a leaner, flatter and agile organisation structure, towards which we worked for in 2019. We must accelerate progress on several group wide initiatives including ANAND House of Quality Culture (AHQC), Sustainability and others.

The biennial ‘Auto Expo 2020’, planned from 6th to 9th February, 2020, is expected to provide some much needed adrenaline to the industry. The theme for the ANAND stall this year is “Driving NextGen Mobility”, showcasing future technology products and our preparedness to support customers for their future models. The display will feature products from emerging new areas like BS VI, Fuel Efficiency, Safety, Light Weighting and some EV related products and technologies. The key highlights of the same are contained in this edition’s cover story.

ANAND is conscious of the Global Environment challenge and is committed towards investing in innovative cutting edge technology solutions which ultimately help in reducing Green House Gas emissions. In this regard, I am excited to share that the Group has signed MOUs with FAR, UK, in the area of Light Weighting and Mazaro, Belgium, for enhancing efficiency of Transmissions/Powertrains. I am confident that these two associations, which are equally applicable for conventional ICE as well as Electric Vehicles, will successfully provide innovative solutions towards the above objective for the Indian automotive industry.

ANAND U conducted Recognition Forum and Senior Speak events this year across four ANAND hubs – Gurugram, Pune, Chennai and Parwanoo. Senior representatives from customers and the Group graced the events. Various employees were recognised at each Hub and some companies also received organisation level awards.

ANAND strongly believes in the ‘Power of People’. It is this fundamental belief that has made the development of people central to its core philosophy. The Group has been successful in developing and maintaining a talent pool of potential leaders through its well established ‘ANAND Leadership Development Programmes (ALDP)’. Succession planning and growth from within are the main goals of ALDP. The initiative was further ‘revised and refined’ in 2018 with a fresh rigour to provide holistic development of people by honing their domain expertise, management and leadership skills. The new batch graduated in 2019 with flying colours and the graduates were duly recognised and awarded. An ALDP Medal of Honour was also introduced this year to recognise top performing graduates, each from ANAND Leader, ANAND Talent and ANAND Mentee categories.

I am also pleased to share that SUJÁN, continues to make its mark on the world stage. SUJÁN Rajmahal Palace and SUJÁN Jawai have been recognised at the Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Travel Awards 2019, giving us reason to rejoice. This edition of INTERACTION highlights the positive impact made by SUJÁN on the community and its surroundings. Wildlife conservation and community development are at the core of SUJÁN‘s enduring pursuits.

I will conclude by thanking the ANAND and SUJÁN Teams for their efforts and dedication during the trying times in 2019. We need to remain positive and prepare for a demanding year ahead, with its share of uncertainties and challenges and continue to strive for preserving and enhancing value for all stakeholders. Wish you all the best in these endeavours.

Warm Regards,

Deepak Chopra

Seat BeltsDesigned to secure the occupant of a vehicle against harmful movement during a collision or sudden stop there by reducing the likelihood of fatal injury.

Electrical Control Units Advanced engineering and latest technology are used to manufacture airbag Electrical Control Units (ECU) that act as collision-detecting sensors and capable of determining impact magnitude in approximately 10/1,000ths of a second. After measuring collision data, the ECU instantaneously activates airbags and other safety-restraining equipment in the vehicle.

AirbagsAre designed to inflate extremely rapidly

during a collision thereby provide the occupants a soft cushioning to prevent

or reduce injuries to occupant.

Crash Sensors and Child Restraint Systems (CRS) Next-generation child safety seats that enhance the protection provided for side-impact collisions, the most dangerous type of crashes. ISOFIX is a standard created by the International Standards Organisation (ISO) to assure that child restraint systems made for automobiles are competently installed. Joyson ANAND Abhishek Safety Systems (JAAI) has a deep understanding of child seats and is an expert in Creating ISOFIX seats.

Joyson ANAND Abhishek Safety Systems Private LimitedShock Absorber

Gabriel Shock Absorbers not only makes mobility smooth they also help in reducing bounce and hence aid in the overall vehicle safety. These shock absorbers hydraulically dampens the road shock and prevents the wheels bouncing. Due to this action tyre to road contact is maintained over all bumps and undulations. This in turn allows control of the vehicle.

Gabriel India Limited

Occupant safety is an immutable statutory requirement in road transportation and automakers have to compulsorily include various safety (active and passive) and comfort systems in each vehicle. Also on the contrary, the quest for building lighter vehicles cannot undermine crashworthiness compulsions. Hence safety is an important aspect of any automobile.

Along with these statutory regulations, the need for fuel-efficient vehicles is complemented by the consumers` growing preference towards such vehicles in the wake of the spiraling fuel prices. Hence reducing vehicle weight is considered a relatively straightforward way to improve the fuel efficiency of road vehicles. Approximately a 10% reduction in vehicle mass brings about a 6-8% improvement in fuel efficiency.

In an average passenger vehicle, Powertrain, body and chassis/suspension amount to about 75% of the total vehicle weight while these adds to about 98% of the total weight in a truck. Hence any weight reduction and breakthrough achievements in Powertrain, body, and chassis/suspension systems will bring quantum reductions in the overall vehicle weight.

Structural AdhesivesStructural adhesives address vehicle stiffness, mass, reinforcement and energy management. They provide added structural integrity to automobiles without increasing vehicle weight. They also provide enhanced durability, strength and stiffness. These adhesives are used to bond large glass sections to the vehicle. They are designed to reduce the resistance of motor vehicle bodies to torsional strain by upto 30%.

MAKING A POSITIVE IMPACT

VISION

TO PRESERVE, PROTECT AND RESTORE THE INDIAN WILDERNESS, AS WELL AS OUR EXTRAORDINARY AND DIVERSE CULTURAL HERITAGE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.

THE SUJÁN EXPERIENCE The SUJAN Life is one of transformational experiences; of parts of the planet that we know intimately and treasure. Experiences for the connoisseur, the adventurous, and those looking for the extraordinary. Experiences that enrich and rejuvenate your soul. Proudly family-owned and managed, our purpose is to protect, conserve and restore our wilderness, our culture, and be custodians of the areas where we are situated, at the same time providing our guests with the highest levels of service, comfort and luxury.

OUR CONSERVATION TENETSOur local communities play a key role in helping us achieve our conservation goals, as well as preserving the integrity of the wilderness and its ecosystem. Ensuring that communities benefit from the existence of our camps is very important to us.Our conservation initiatives run across several districts of Rajasthan with a focus on, but not limited to, the following four tenets:

SUSTAINABILITY AND PRESERVATION

BIODIVERSITY CULTUREHOLISTIC COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

ORGANISATIONS WE SUPPORT We believe in the necessity of cohesive conservation to achieve sustainable goals. As a result, we work with and support a number of NGOs because we believe collaborative efforts make for effective conservation practices.

MAKING A POSITIVE IMPACT: AN OVERVIEW Our primary objective has always been to preserve and protect wild spaces in India, along with our heritage & culture. Everything we do supports this. By staying at SUJÁN as our guest you are making a direct contribution that will allow us to continue on a truly sustainable journey, committing profits to securing conservation integrity for future

generations. A conservation levy is added to each stay, per person, per night, as a contribution to our foundation. Through this levy, every guest who stays with us is not only helping to conserve and expand natural habitats, but also contributes to our conservation and community development projects in the area.

Working with our local communities to ensure that they not only benefit from the existence of SUJÁN but thrive because of it is vital to our operations. We have successfully launched a completely free Mobile Medical Primary Health Care service that operates 6 days a week, in our 5 villages neighbouring SUJÁN JAWAI. We have donated a fully equipped medical van and with it provide, a driver, a doctor & nurse and a supply of medicines, to give free primary health care to our local communities. We have treated over 5982 patients since October 2018, of which 51% of these are women. Villagers no longer have to travel long distances to seek basic medical help and, as has traditionally been custom in India, medicines are being delivered to their door. Consisting of just 10 seasonal tents, our guest conservation levy enables this van to operate throughout the year. That's impact!

FREE PRIMARY HEALTH CARE SERVICE

SUJÁN is a proud partner and primary donor to the Village Wildlife Volunteer Programme. It is run by Tiger Watch, with assistance from the Forest Department, Government of Rajasthan. It is focused on providing surveillance, monitoring, anti-poaching, and scientific data collection. The volunteers are local villagers, cattle herders and farmers, who, with the help of latest technology such as smartphones and camera traps, are monitoring wildlife and thus playing a crucial role in the conservation mission.

ANTI-POACHING

We recognise that access to quality early education provides a foundation for success in later life, and also goes hand in hand with learning more about conservation and the need to protect our delicate ecosystems. We believe, education is the most powerful tool which can be used to change the world. We have adopted 13 schools, across Rajasthan, impacting over 5670 students. The communities close to our camps, play a key role in helping us to achieve our conservation goals, so improving the quality of primary education is key.

IMPROVING EDUCATION, SCHOOL ADOPTION INITIATIVE

Currently our rewilding programme at SUJÁN JAWAI focuses on returning farmland back to wilderness. Fixed monthly rents are paid directly to small landholders or their families through our Conservation Contribution to secure pieces of land – no matter what our occupancies are or even when camps are closed over the summer and monsoon. These ‘connecting’ pieces of land have also regenerated corridors for wildlife – especially for iconic species like leopards.
