Senior Luncheon

The Senior Luncheon will meet on the third Thursday, May 17th at 11:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the Church. The program that day will be presented by Rev. Roger as he shares his collection of cartoons, some of which he created. After the program, Mike Lyons will give any interested persons a tour of the parsonage. The menu will be hamburger gravy on mashed potatoes, green peas (Rev Roger’s favorite), rolls and butter, and for dessert, strawberries and cream cake. The meal is catered by Janet Majoy and costs $7.00 per person. You make your reservation by signing the list in the Welcome Center of the Church or by calling Judi Graham at 419-433-5609 no later than Monday, May 14th. Come and enjoy the last Senior Luncheon program of our “minister of many interests” before his retirement.

Pastor Transition Update

All is going very well with the transition. Pastor Pamela has mentioned several times how pleased she is with the support she is receiving from our Church. She is very busy working with the two churches she currently pastors and is not all concerned about us. It is a great relief for her. She toured the Parsonage with Mike Lyons and is excited about it. Several appliances have been replaced including the washer and dryer, painting throughout the house and the windows have been replaced. Mike is planning an open house after the 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. services early in June for the congregation to see what has been done. She selected our own George Ringle to handle the move of her household goods. They have been coordinating the dates and times and that is “moving” along well. She will be moving to Huron during the second week in June. Roger still has books and Cherub Chat items to give away. Keep these three dates in mind: June 11th is the retirement celebration for Roger at the East Ohio Annual

Conference in Lakeside, Ohio. He and Joan are hosting a reception that evening in their cottage. He will have more details. June 24th – one service at 9:00 a.m. This will be the parting service for Roger

and will be followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. July 1st – one service at 9:00 a.m. This will be Pastor Pamela’s first service

with us. It too will be followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. Remember that according to the Book of Discipline, we should not contact Roger for one year, starting July 1, 2018. This gives Pastor Pamela time to easily transition into her new role. Roger has shared how in one of his previous transitions the departing pastor remained an active member of the church and it made Roger’s new role difficult. If you have any questions, please contact Lance Beebe 419-515-1493 or Alyson Wilson 419-602-0705. The SPR Committee

Camp Good Grief

Camp Good Grief is a week-long day camp for children between the ages of 5 and 13, who have experienced a loss of any type, including loss by death, familial incarceration, divorce and separation, among others. The dates for camp at Osborn Park (the most local site) are June 11th-15th. Registration forms are available in the Welcome Center. The fee is $10.00. Other sites and dates are offered. See flyer on hall tack strip.

Graduation Sunday All High School and College graduates are invited to participate on Graduation Sunday, May 27th at our 10:00 service. If you have any students in your family graduating this May/June please let the Church Office know so we may celebrate their accomplishment by including them in our bulletin announcements. Please supply us with grad’s name, diploma/degree, and high school/college, and future plans, if known. Beth Hanson will be coordinating this event. Please contact her at 419-706-9019 with any questions.

A Unique Mission Opportunity Awaits You

Are you interested in helping those who have been devastated by floods, tornados, hurricanes, etc. If so, the East Ohio Firelands District has an incredible opportunity for you. My name is Dennis Dendinger and am the newly appointed Early Response Team Coordinator. I am working on putting together a list of people who would be interested in being part of a mission team that would help those who have been devastated by disasters within our communities, district, state, nation, and internationally. This could mean going into the field for 3 days to a couple of weeks, helping to organize flood buckets The Firelands District is in need of volunteers to help out with an Early Response Team (ERT). The purpose of the ERT teams of The United Methodist Church is not to lead Disaster Response efforts, but to assist as we are able, depending on the gifts and skills of the persons on our teams, and to provide emotional and spiritual support as an outgrowth of our discipleship. If you feel a calling to help others in their time of need, or to get more information please contact me:

Dennis Dendinger Firelands District Early Response Team Coordinator 419-357-5898 or email at [email protected] and put ERT in the subject line.

Summer Fun

at UM Camps

It’s time to register!

Camp Aldersgate, Camp Asbury, and Camp Wanake each offer Summer Camps and year-round retreat facilities. Participants have incredible experiences while they make new friends, try new things, learn about God, learn about themselves, and then take it all home. Our goal is to provide comfortable settings and quality programs through which people can experience Christ’s love for them and all creation, and have the opportunity to share that love with others. We invite you to explore God’s greatest gift – “the Wonder of Nature” – with memorable camping and retreat experiences in East Ohio. Hello Everyone!

...Child sponsorship projects have been going smoothly. The students have been working hard and we’re quickly approaching the last third of projects that must be completed. These end of the year progress reports are just one of the many ways students interact with their sponsors abroad. Receiving updates on new events in your sponsored child’s life as well as loving messages is an incredible way to continue to stay connected with the Kids Alive ministry here in the Dominican Republic and also allows you to continue to encourage our students throughout the year. ...what incredible people I am surrounded by here in the DR. People who are whole heartedly invested in serving the Lord and fulfilling His purpose for their lives by serving His children. I am encouraged every day by these people and incredibly blessed to be working alongside them. They even made sure I felt loved on my birthday this week which meant the world to me as it is my first birthday not spent at home with friends and family. God continues to bless me and encourage me through the people He has placed in my life. I can’t thank Him enough for providing

Native American Ministries Sunday Remembered Sunday, April 15, 2018, was a special day in the Methodist Church- Native American Ministries Sunday. I chose to share with the congregation of the Huron United Methodist Church that the Eagle feather is a visual and symbolic reminder of the Biblical realities of life and putting hope and faith in God. The feather reminds us of the reality and truth of God’s word – that if we put our faith in Jesus Christ, we can soar like Eagles amid life’s difficulties. Isaiah 40:30-31 says, Even youths grow tired end weary. and young men stumble and fell; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

I Thank Kshe’mnIto – By Bruce Molnar

May Kshe’mnIto the all mighty and powerful Great Spirit bless all who have entered this place for worship, to sing, pray, and to hear the word of God. I give Kshe’mnIto many thanks for our health, cheerfulness and those blessings that we’ve been provided. May the warm winds of Heaven soon blow gently on this part of Mother Earth. And may the Great Spirit see us safely back to our homes, families and loved ones. Keep us out of the Evil One’s way and on the right path to be with the Creator and the good spirits when we leave this world. And may Kshe’mnIto keep you and yours in a place where the rainbow always touches your shoulder. Ahow – (Amen)

Migizi Yabwen (Eagle-Dreamer)

by Bruce Molnar (Podagon Patawatomi)

I feel very blessed to envision a soaring Eagle when I dream. The Eagle is a most regal and majestic raptor. When observed in flight at a perfect angle from Mother Earth, the sight of the Eagle projects a snowy-white, diamond-like brilliance which emanates from its head and tail plumes. Soaring and ascending, before spiraling in the sky – just as if it were dancing in a ceremonial ritual. Every day the Eagle soars to great heights on Father Sky – over vast distances at astounding speeds. Climbing, turning, searching and sailing along naturally. I appreciate the way Eagles demonstrate their strength and freedom. Gliding and descending all the while searching the terrain for prey to dive upon and snatch up, as well as evading potential hazards as the Eagle journeys safely back to its aerie. Eagles cannot only choose to fly in the calm ad bright blue skies on fine days, yet the Eagle must venture out of the nest in severe weather as well. Eagles must fly to survive, soaring to hunt prey successfully to deliver to its young eagles, before it provides for itself. The Eagle takes from Mother Earth only what is needed to care for its family to remain strong and to stay alive to be able to fly and soar again. The Eagle you see is truly a servant – a part of the Creator’s lifecycle. The Eagle is not thwarted by adversity – but fearless and determined in its purpose. The beauty of what the Eagle sees and knows will never be understood by any living people, but only by the Creator. The one the Bodewadmik (Potawatomi) know as Kshe’mnIto, the Great Spirit, God! Look to the Eagle for the many lessons it can teach all of us about life’s joys and struggles and give thanks to Kshe’mnIto, for the gift of the majestic and magnificent Eagle. Ahow – (Amen) © 2016 Migizi Yabwen – Eagle Dreamer by Bruce Molnar – Huron, Ohio 44839 USA. All rights reserved.
