Social Care Induction Framework for Wales (SCIF)

This workbook has been designed to help you collect the evidence that you willneed to complete one of the Social Care Induction Award units.

The Social Care Induction Framework (SCIF) forWales supports a common understanding toinduction in social care in Wales. It sets out theskills and knowledge that a new worker needs toknow in their first 12 weeks of employment. TheCare Council has developed a total of 7 SCIFQualification units that sit within the Level 2Award in Social Care Induction Wales and thisworkbook has been designed to help you collectthe evidence that you will need to complete oneof these units.

There are 6 units in total that should becompleted:

� Induction to the role of the social careworker in Wales

� Induction to health and safety at work insocial care in Wales

� Induction to communication within a socialcare context in Wales

� Induction to safeguarding in social care inWales

� Induction to continuing professionaldevelopment in social care in Wales

And either

� Induction to the principles and values ofcare when working with children andyoung people in Wales

Or

� Induction to the principles and values ofcare when working with adults at risk inWales.

These units have been designed to give you a basicunderstanding of the skills and knowledge that areessential for you to carry out the role of social careworker. In each of the supporting workbooks youwill be asked to complete a series of questions andexercises that will allow you to show yourknowledge and understanding of each of the keyfunctions of the role. This evidence will then belooked at by an assessor to make sure that itmeets the requirements of the Award unit.

Please note that as the content of the wholeSCIF is broader than the learning outcomes andassessment criteria set out in the units and alsocovers learning that is specific to the workplace.You may have to complete some additionallearning. Your manager will be able to adviseyou about this.

Some of the evidence that you gather in thisworkbook may be also used towards the relevanthealth and social care diploma qualification thatyou may need to undertake in order to work inthe social care sector.
