I. Career Summary

I am presently the head, Department of Political Science, University of Kashmir. I have been a

member of several South Asian civil society networks and have authored books and research

papers mostly on themes of electoral politics, identity politics, peace processes and

democracy in South Asia. I was a visiting fellow at the Delhi University’s Department of

Political Science in 2018 and worked as State Coordinator from 2002-2014 for the Centre for

the Study of Developing Societies(CSDS), Delhi at its Lokniti network. I coordinated

projects/election surveys on elections in Jammu and Kashmir, youth empowerment and state

of democracy in South Asia. At the University of Kashmir, I have previously served as director

of the UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Institute of Kashmir Studies during (2013--2016) when

Kashmir university hosted approximately eighteen scholars from various SAARC countries for

enhancing people to people contact. In this way I had the unique opportunity to contribute to

global education and also to Regional understanding by preparing the soft power for

societies and States in South Asia. Additionally, I have served as Provost and undertook

several reforms in the hostel sector of the University of Kashmir. As director of the UGC-

Human Resource Development Centre I tried to widen the knowledge base of the centre.

During my academic career I visited many countries viz, England, Singapore, the United Arab

Emirates, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Belgium, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Japan among other

countries, for participation in seminars and conferences. The British high commission in

India recommended me for undertaking a field study in Northern Ireland to understand Irish

Peace process. Taking advantage of my expertise I contributed to peace processes in the

large region of South Asia and participated in a number of inter- and intra-regional

initiatives aimed at fostering regional understanding and harmony in Jammu and Kashmir. I

have also delivered lectures at Jindal Global University, Delhi University and Queen's

University Belfast and have been keynote speaker for many conferences.
