This kit will take your girls on a garden adventure with their new petal fairy friends. Each law has a petal fairy that needs your Daisy Girl Scout’s help. Your Daisy Girl Scouts will go on a adventure learning how to live by the Girl Scout Law and help their petal fairy friends plant their fairy fl owers, water their fairy gardens, and learn how to live by the Girl Scout Law one activity at a time.

The girls will do this by completing activities from 4 different categories for each award: Practice the law, be creative with the law, get moving with the law, and put the law into action. Each petal also includes a additional activity and/or song to add to your Girl Scout troop meeting.

The Petal Fairy Leader Guide is designed to help make planning your Girl Scout meetings a breeze. Below is what you can expect to see in this guide for each Daisy Petal and Promise Center.

• Everything you need for a particular petal or promise center is included in the “What you need” list at the top of each section.

• After the “What you need” section the activities are broke down into the following 4 categories:

• At the end of each activity category there is a sticker book follow up activity, the sticker book is optional for each girl(see next page for the value of using with your Daisy Girl Scouts) If you choose to earn the awards without them just skip that section of activities.

• Throughout the Petal Fairy Leader Guide you will see reference to PDF templates.

To access these resources go to girlscoutleaderconnect.com

Note: If you bought the sticker books for your Daisy Girl Scouts the templates are included with sticker books. If you need more copies of anything you have access to the daisy resource above.

• Lastly, you can track your Daisy Girl Scouts progress using the petal tracker at the back of this book on page 36 and 37. If you need more copies of the page it is also available in the online Daisy Girl Scout resource you have access to on the Girl Scout Leader Connect website.

The Petal Fairy Sticker Book Makes Planning Even EasierAs mentioned on the previous page, the Petal Fairy: Garden Adventure kit is designed for leaders to earn the awards with or without the sticker book addition for each Daisy Girl Scout in your troop. However the sticker book will make earning the Girl Scout Law Petals and Daisy Promise Center even easier.

The reasons why you want to have a sticker book for each girl:

• After you complete all the activities in a category there will be a “Sticker Book Follow up” section. This section will give your Daisy Girl Scouts a chance to add stickers to their sticker book. For example:

• After completing the activities your Daisy Girl Scouts can also track progress with their very own tracking stickers to put in their sticker book.

Daisy Promise Center the girls pick a Daisy Girl Scout that best represents them.

• Help your your Daisy Girl Scouts learn how to follow the Girl Scout Law with the help of the Daisy Petal Fairies. On each page of the sticker book the petal fairy will share ways your Daisy Girl Scouts can follow that Girl Scout Law. As part of the sticker book follow up activities share the quote with your Daisies. • At the end of each petal your Daisy Girl Scouts will have a follow up question to answer in their sticker book.• All the pdf templates mentioned throughout the Petal Fairy Leader Guide are included with your Daisy Girl Scouts sticker book so there is no need to print additional resources.

Recommended Structuring Of Troop MeetingNo matter how you plan to run your Girl Scout troop meetings you will fi nd that your Daisy Girl Scouts will respond well to a standard routine for each meeting. Example:

• Start the meeting with a simple fl ag ceremony (see page 5 for ceremony). • Start working through the Daisy Promise Center and Girl Scout Law Petal awards. Depending on length of your Girl Scout troop meeting you may complete more than one law or only parts of a law which is perfectly fi ne. Use the petal tracker on page 36 to keep track of where you left off at each meeting.• When time is right during your Girl Scout troop meeting have a snack. • End your Girl Scout troop meeting with a song (you can use any of the songs throughout this book or fi nd your own) and do a friendship circle (how to on page 23).

What you need:• One bag of Hersey Kisses• 2 paper plates• 3 objects (example: keys, stuffed animal, ball)• Clear drinking glass with 1 cup of water in it• 2 fresh raw egg• 1/4 cup salt • Permanent marker

Be Honest – Lies are Hard to Keep StraightThis activity will show your Daisies that it is ALWAYS easier to tell the truth then to lie because it is hard to remember a lie. How to do activity: Have your Daisies sit in circle or around table. Hold a object in your hands and make up a lie about it. For example, if you are holding a keys you can say “This is a car.” Pass the keys and tell girls the next person has to repeat what you said and add a new lie: “This is a car and they are orange.” Continue until someone accidentally tells the truth or a lie. Then to show girls how much easier it is to remember a truth, try the same game but tell the truth. Play it as many times as you want with different objects, suggestion is 3 objects.

The Egg of FairnessThis activity will demonstrate to your Daisies fairness of others. Before meeting draw an sad face on one egg and a happy face on another. What you need: egg, water, tablespoon, and saltHow to do activity: 1. Explain to the girls that the egg, name her Sally is sad and represents someone who is not being treated fairly. Watch as we place the egg in the water, Sally sinks to the bottom which is how some one who is left out or mistreated would feel: sad, depressed, and unloved. 2. Then pull the egg out of the water and set it aside. Now put one tablespoon at a time of the salt into the water, stirring in each spoonful, explaining to the girls how the salt represents different ways to show fairness towards others: Following the rules when playing a game, Taking turns and sharing, Treating others with respect, Taking action to help someone being treated unfairly. 3. After you have added all of the salt, place the smiling “Sally Egg” in the water and it will now float. Explain that now Sally is being supported with kindness and fairness of others.

Make a Flower Pot Kaper ChartWhat is a Kaper Chart?A great way for girls to put the law into action is being Friendly and Helpful at the Girl Scout meetings. One way to do that is to use a Kaper Chart, which is a Girl Scout tradition for dividing up troop responsibilities. A kaper is a job or chore that must be done. The chart indicates all the jobs available and who is responsible for each one.Note: Feel free to make any type of Kaper Chart you want this is just one idea that follows our Petal Fairy ThemeWhat you need: daisy fl ower, and fl ower pots [print on card stock from website or included in sticker book(comes with 3 fl ower pots)], Popsicle stick for each girl (big ones), blue poster board, glue, markerHow to make: Have each girl color and design their daisy fl ower and put their name on the fl ower. Give each girl a Popsicle stick and have them color it green for the stem. Glue the fl ower onto the Popsicle stick. Give each girl a Flower pot to color and design. If you need more fl ower pots print more from the website. As a Troop decide what tasks you will have at each meeting to be completed and write on top of each fl ower pot. Then once girls are done designing pot, Glue the pots onto poster board only gluing around the outer edge of pot and leaving top open so girls can slide their fl owers into tops of each pot when that is their chore for meeting. At top of Poster board write “Troop Kaper Chart”

Sticker Book Follow upThe practice the Girl Scout Law activity is complete! If your Daisies have a sticker book go to page 4 and add Zoe the Zinnia Petal Fairy to their Considerate and Caring Fairy Garden Scene and share with them what the petal fairy has to say about putting this law into action. The girls can also add the daisy flower circle sticker under the “Activity Complete” section on the page.

What you need:• White card stock for each girl.• Different art supplies: crayons, color pencils, markers, paint, chalk, etc..• 1 White piece of paper for each girl• Pom pom (Color or black) for each girl

• 2 wiggle eyes for each girl,• 1 bandage (long skinny) for each girl• Small objects one for each pair of girls• bandanna(optional)• Sticker book for each girl (optional)

Be Considerate and Caring and Listen to Your Partner ActivityIn this activity your Daisies will learn how important it is to listen to others. A good listener is someone who shows that she really cares what people are saying. A good listener is an active listener. Someone who shows that she really cares what people are saying. Tell the girls the way to do that is to give someone your full attention when they are speaking, don’t interrupt them and ask good questions. What you need: Small objects one for each pair of girls, bandanna(optional)How to do activity: Put the girls in pairs and give them some type of small object (ball, pencil, toy, etc..) Then tell the girls one girl will close her eyes or use a bandanna to cover eyes and that girl will be the listener. The other girl will be the talker. Once the listener has her eyes closed have the talker take the small object to some place in the room. Nothing tricky but away from the listeners current location. Now the talkers job is to lead her partner to the hidden object by giving her verbal instructions. Once the object has been recovered now it is time to switch roles and repeat. After the activity is complete, have a quick discussion about being a good listener. Here are a few questions to ask your girls.

· Why was listening so important?· How were you at being a good listener?· Was it hard to be an active listener?· What might make it easier to be an even better listener?· When you’re having a real conversation with someone, what are some things you can do to show you’re really listening and care about what they are saying?

Caring and Sharing MasterpieceThis craft will help your Daisies practice being Considerate and Caring while sharing craft suppliesWhat you need: white card stock for each girl, different art supplies: crayons, color pencils, markers, paint, chalk, etc..How to make: Tell girls they are going to create a piece of art on their card stock. They can draw whatever they want. The catch is you won’t be always using the same the supplies. When you start give girls 4 minutes with whatever art supply they have. At end of 4 minutes ring a bell or set off a alarm and the girls must then trade supplies with another girl. Then continue with their art piece. Continue resetting alarm for 4 minutes and trading off supplies till girls look as though they are complete. Show them how much fun it is to see how their art changes as they share their supplies. By sharing supplies it is a great way to be caring to their friends. Ask the girls if they have other ideas of how they can be caring toward friends?

What Do You Have in Common with Me? You will notice that many friendships are built on similar interest, so to help build a better relationship with your whole Daisy troop the girls can play this game to learn more about each other. How to do activity: Have your girls all sit in a circle. Start with first girl have them call out something about themselves such as “I like to go swimming” or “I have a older sister.” If the statement is true for any of the other girls, they should stand up and say “Me TO!” This will get your girls moving and also easy way for the girls to see the similarities they all have. Afterwards ask girls if they found out they have more in common with some of the girls than they thought?

Sticker Book Follow upThe practice the Girl Scout Law activity is complete! What you need:• Tree, apples, and fairy card templates [print from website or included in sticker book]• Piece of paper• Book

• Drawing paper• 12 eggs; boil six and leave six of them raw.• Sticker book for each girl (optional)

Paper CourageThis activity will show your Daisies that anyone can turn weaknesses into strengths and be Courageous and Strong. What you need: piece of paper and a bookHow to do activity: Show the girls a piece of paper and ask them if this piece of paper would hold up the book using only one hand to hold the paper? Have a few girls try it and soon everyone will realize there is no way. Now take that same piece of paper and roll it tight into a tube. You can now hold that tub in one hand and carefully place the book on top of the open end of the tube. It should support the book.

Now you can explain to the girls how this relates to their ability to turn their weaknesses into strengths and show courage. The paper was flimsy at first, weak, lacking backbone and character and was easy to crush and overwhelm. Compare this to someone who faces a problem, they may lack the courage to confront the problem or stand up to the opposition. But, with determination you can turn a weaknesses into a strength. Just as the paper can be rolled into a sturdy tube, we can work to add muscle to our weaknesses if we have the courage to persist. We will then develop backbone to hold up under pressure.

Ask the girls to give examples of what someone could do to turn a weakness into strength. For examples: Sally has to talk in front of her class and she is afraid to speak in front of her classmates. Now what can she do to change this into a strength? Any other examples girls can come up with?

What Does Courage Look Like? This activity will allow your Daisies to picture what courage looks like so they can put the Girl Scout Law into action. What you need: drawing paper How to do activity: Have your Daisies draw a picture of courage in action. Have girls title their picture “Courage is....” and have them complete the sentence either with words or drawing.

Make the World a Better Place with Kindness Nature RocksThis activity will give your Daisies a chance to give back to the community by creating kindness rocks to put around the community. What you need: river rocks (smooth rocks gather them at the beach or river side), paint brushes, multiple colors of paint including black paint, white paint penHow to make: Using the black paint have the girls paint their rock black and then let it dry. Once it is dry help your Daisy Girl Scouts come up with kind positive messages to put on their rock. Use the white paint pen to write the positive message on your girls rocks. Then give your girls paint to design the rock with creative designs, they could make polka dots, rainbow, spots, etc. Once dry tell the girls to take home and place rock in random places for example at their favorite park, on a nature trail, or even just on a friend or neighbors porch.

Variation: Have the girls decorate the rocks however they want and just tape the message on the bottom of the rock. This gives them a chance to have more variation in what they are doing.

This activity will give your Daisies a chance to have some fun while making a treat for one of nature’s creators, birds. When they get back to their team have them put their cheerio onto the pipe cleaner. Continue this until the girls have fi lled the pipe cleaner with cheerios. (If you don’t want to do this as a movement game just do as craft) Then together as group girls will take their pipe cleaners and bend them to create a heart, twisting the two sides together. Words Hurt - Be a Sister to Every Girl ScoutThis activity will help your Daisy Girl Scouts understand the importance of thinking before they speak & being respectful to one another. What you need: Jenny the Girl Scout template [print from website or included in sticker book], crayons and/or markersHow to do activity: Hand out the Jenny Girl Scout template printed from website or included with girl’s sticker book. Have the girls take some time coloring Jenny the Girl Scout. Then introduce all your girls to Jenny! Explain to them that she is a Daisy Girl Scout just like them from another troop, but she isn’t very well liked by others. Ask your girls to think of comments they might hear that would hurt Jenny’s feelings. As the girls shared examples, they should crumble a section of Jenny they just fi nished coloring. Continue until Jenny is one serious crumbled up mess! Then discuss how bad Jenny was feeling and how they would feel from the hurtful comments.

Now that the girls understand how hurtful words can be have girls now share things they could say to Jenny so she would know she is important and that we all respect her. As each example is said have the girls start smoothing out Jenny. Once she is all smoothed out discuss with the girls how she still has wrinkles and you can’t get them completely out. Jenny is different now, those hurtful comments stick with her even if we say we are sorry. Remind your girls to always think before we speak and respect each other.

As a conclusion to the activity, have each girl share with the group one thing that she is going to do at home or at school to show others that she is a sister to every Girl Scout and include everyone.

Be A Sister to EveryoneNow that your Daisies understand the GIrl Scout Law “Be a Sister To Every Girl Scout” it is time to put it into action. What you need: M&MsHow to do activity: Pair up your girls, and have them sit facing each other. Say out loud what you see - How many different colors do you see? Compare with your friend the colors of your eyes, hair, skin, lips, clothes, shoes. Now, share a handful of M&M candies with your friend. Do you have a favorite color of M&M? Why? Even though they are different outside, aren’t they the same inside? Try this experiment: Have your friend secretly choose an M&M and remember what color it is. You close your eyes, and she will let you eat it – no peeking! Now, tell her what color you think the M&M was. Chances are, you can’t tell the color – they taste the same. Make sure she gets a turn to try this, too. What if you had decided not to be friends with anyone who looked different than you? People are all very different and that making decisions about someone according to color, shape of eyes, height, weight, or ability is wrong. Take some time to talk about how our differences make us special, and what you have in common – inside. How can you help others see what is inside a person, and not make decisions based on the outside?

A fire burns bright, it warms the heart. We’ve been friends, from the very start.

You have one hand,I have the other.Put them together,We have each other.
