welcome to Torquay the Moto Cross heart of Devon for the Fifth Roundof the Century Oils sponsored British Moto Cross Championship'
After the heaviest conditions so far experienced at the last round in May at
Cambridge, one comes to Devon hoping that the sun is going to shine on us this Julyweekend.
Loving every minute in the previous rounds conditions Honda's Dave
Thorpe actua$ increised his lead over last years British champion Neil Hudson
(Yaniaha) withtwo victories, which may be small recompense_for their below aver-
age performances so far, whatever the reaso_n, in the world 5fi) cc championship.t't i.O ln the table is former World & British Champion Graham Noyce who has stillgot the leaders in sight and his main aim today will be to get into close contention withihe leading duo in tlhe championship. I think it is guaranteed_that sparks will flJ in all
3 quarterJtoday. Behind thim although not out,of reach is Yamahas Dave Watson
who whilst again, has not had lady luckcompletely on his side in his pursuit of the 250
world crown has offered more consistancy in the home series.A battle rages behind Watson between Kawasaki's Kurt Nicoll, returning
to the domestic scenE after a collar bone injury, Scotlands Willie Simpson, Suzuki's
Jem Whatley and veteran Yamaha teamster Roger Harvey. HgpefullV with better
conditions prevailaing we can look forward to a furtherance of what has become a
major dispute over ihe lower placings in the_ top 10. completing the top 10 are
Honda's Steve Beamish who so far this season has only seemed able to pull the stops
out in this Championship and Glouccster based Ulstcrman Steve Russell who is
another rider who is reappearing on thc domcstic sccnc aftcr sustaining a shoulder
injury in a recent televised event. The cut and thrust of thc support chanrpionship also conttnucs today wilh
Honda's Tony Caig leading thc fray. [lowcvcr, a tw() pronBcd Yamaha attack has
been launched witi-Greg llanson antl thc in form Kevin F-roud aiming to upset the
Honda mans dominatiorxlf the championship. Only 3 points behind Froud is another
Yamaha, this time in the capable hands of Worcesters Rob Andrews whose cham-
pionship performances this year have attained a considerable amount of maturity'rn" t"tup for the final promotion place fo1 lhe 1984 top 15 still continues between
two Northerners Cagiva's Mark Fuiton, and Scot Dennis McGarrie with just 5 points

We all know that ohoosing a helmet is a serious business and we all want the best we can get:- but at aprice we can aJford. lt's easy to pay a fortune for one, and even easier to get one on the iheap. What is needed is a helrnet that has style and quality but comes at a reasonable price. That is why we atServal chose MDS as the only helmet we rnarket. These lightweight fibre glass heimets are certainly stylish, five different sets of team colours no less; and their extra comfortable padding ensures easy riding.'Naturally they are BSI and ACU approved, but perhaps the most important thing about them is their price,
