*Opening Song of Praise “Be Unto Your Name”

We are a moment You are forever,

Lord of the ages, God before time.

We are a vapor, You are eternal.

Love everlasting, reigning on high.

Holy, holy, Lord God Almighty.

Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain.

Highest praises, honor and glory

be unto Your name, be unto Your name.

We are the broken, You are the Healer,

Jesus, Redeemer, mighty to save.

You are the love song we'll sing forever,

Bowing before You, blessing Your name.

Holy, holy, Lord God Almighty.

Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain.

Highest praises, honor and glory

be unto Your name, be unto Your name.

Holy, holy, Lord God Almighty.

Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain.

Highest praises honor and glory

be unto Your name, be unto Your name,

be unto Your name.

*Song of Praise “As the Deer”

As the deer panteth for the water, So my soul longeth after Thee. You alone are my heart's desire, And I long to worship Thee. (verse 1, sing 2x) You alone are my strength, my shield; to You alone may my spirit yield. You alone are my heart's desire and I long to worship Thee. You're my friend and You are my brother Even though You are a King. I love You more than any other, so much more than anything. You alone are my strength, my shield; to You alone may my spirit yield. You alone are my heart's desire and I long to worship Thee. I want You more than gold or silver, Only You can satisfy. You alone are the real joy-giver And the apple of my eye. You alone are my strength, my shield; to You alone may my spirit yield; You alone are my heart's desire and I long to worship Thee. You alone are my heart's desire and I long to worship Thee.

*Hymn 188 “Jesus, I Am Resting, Resting”

Scripture Reading 2 Thessalonians 2:13-17 (ESV)

13 But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the first fruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. 14 To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.

16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, 17 comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.

Michael’s Testimony

I came to faith in Christ at a young age thanks to my parents teaching me the

Word and faithfully taking me to church. As I grew up, I came to understand

and appreciate more and more Christ's atoning work for me and the depth of

my sin. I was blessed to be a part of the ministry of Camp Susque as a

camper (and later as a counselor in high school and college) which was

instrumental in my spiritual growth. Being taught biblical truths while

surrounded by God's beautiful creation is tough to beat. Another galvanizing

experience was with a particular English teacher, who openly (and frequently)

mocked the Bible and Christians during class. As a result, some friends and I

formed a Bible study lead by a local pastor. It was a fruitful time of learning

more about Biblical doctrines and the historicity of Scripture, and helped to

strengthen my faith. I continue to be thankful as I see God's providence

throughout my life- surrounding me with good Christian friends in college and

being part of a solid campus ministry (RUF Penn State), and into my adult life

being able to find a reformed church once I moved to California (Redeemer

PCA). As I join a new church community here at Faith, I look forward to

growing and serving alongside everyone.

Payton’s Testimony

For as long as I can remember there has been a fairly standard procedure for

Sundays. I would get up at my mother’s calling, shower, eat breakfast and go

to church in time for choir and Sunday School. In the evenings it was always a

similar practice: my own patterns were interrupted at the call of a parent, I

rushed to be ready, and we left for the evening service. There is nothing

wrong with a family practice of going to church together, but it was never really

my own choice to make. Similarly, it seems that my faith then was never one

of my own choosing, but one that my parents and family assumed and

facilitated for most of my life. I would say that the turning point between

following the faith of my parents and deciding to make it my own was this past

year during college. I found that there were people around me who didn’t

seem to make their faith a priority, and conversely a lot of other people who

seemed to have grown into a faith of their own. I wasn’t in a bubble anymore,

this was a picture of the rest of my life, and now I had a choice. I have seen

God working in my life growing up through my family and the way they have

facilitated a lot of my Christian growth. While at school I have seen God’s work

through members of my on-campus Bible study. A passage that helped me a

lot this year was Romans chapter seven (particularly verses 24-25), where

Paul tells the church in Rome about his own struggles with daily sin. I found

this to be a comfort and a sort of assurance, that if God’s grace was more than

enough for Paul then it would also be more than enough for me. “Wretched

man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God

through Jesus Christ our Lord!” Romans 7:24-25a (ESV). In this passage,

Paul makes it abundantly clear that despite everything I have done and

everything I will do wrong, I can still trust in Jesus for my salvation.
