Radiologic Technologists are important members of thehealth care team. They perform a wide variety of diagnosticand therapeutic radiologic procedures.

The Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in RadiologicTechnology requires a prescribed curriculum at St. CloudState University (SCSU) and clinical coursework at anaffiliated school of radiologic technology. During the firsttwo years, students take general education and basic sciencecourses at SCSU. The clinical phase and the courses in itprepare students to take a national certification examinationin radiologic technology as well as fulfill the graduationrequirements for the BS degree in Radiologic Technologyfrom SCSU.

The mission of the College of Science and Engineering(COSE) Applied Research and Development Center (ARDC)is to support and publicize the research and activities ofCOSE students, faculty, staff and alumni and to obtainsupport for faculty and student research.

The ARDC publishes the Dimensions news journal and theFaculty Research Interest Directory (FRID). Dimensionspublicizes the research and activities of COSE students, faculty, staff and alumni. The FRID provides information onfaculty and their research interests, the COSE Dean’s Office, and COSE departments and academic centers. Copies ofDimensions and the FRID are available in the ARDC, whichis located in Headley Hall 227A, or the COSE Dean’s Officewhich is located in the Robert H. Wick Science Building(WSB) 145.

The ARDC maintains the web site for the College of Scienceand Engineering and assists individual COSE departmentswith their web sites. The ARDC provides leadership andsupport for the annual SCSU Student Research Colloquiumand administrates the annual Denise M. McGuire StudentResearch Awards and Faculty Research Award. The Computer Networking and Applications Program offersa Networking Modeling and Simulation major jointly withthe Department of Statistics and a 27-credit minor in DataCommunications. Additionally, there are 17- and 24-creditminors in Computer Networking and Applications.

Computer network analysts design networks and evaluatenetwork performance. The Network Modeling andSimulation major provides a balance between the theoreticaland the practical skills needed to succeed in this field.

The Data Communications minor is designed to providestudents with a conceptual background in the principles ofoperation, design and evaluation of data networks.Computer Networking and Applications minor programshave been designed to be supporting programs for studentswho need to become knowledgeable and sophisticated usersof microcomputers.

The Greenhouse was completed in the fall of 1991. It is asmall facility, with 1600 square feet of growing space and anattached head house area. In 2003, the Cargill Corporationdonated a greenhouse facility that added 800 square feet ofresearch space. Cargill also provided two state-of-the-artenvironmental chambers which allow faculty and students tocarry out plant growth experiments under carefullycontrolled conditions.

The Greenhouse growing area is divided into fiveindividually controlled environments. Currently, these fiveenvironments are operating as a tropical display room, twotemperate rooms for stock plants and research, a topicalresearch room, and an arid display and research room. Alarge number of student projects are carried out in thefacility each semester. Insect control is generally done usingnatural products rather than synthetic pesticides.

The Herbarium is a significant research and teachingresource that serves the public, academic, and professionalcommunities. It provides an important source foridentification of plant specimens as well as training in planttaxonomy.

The plant collection (30,000 specimens) is especially strongin Central Minnesota counties holdings dating from 1800s tothe present. Currently, a bibliographic and an onlinedatabase are being developed to make the wealth ofinformation contained in the collections more readily andwidely available.
