CALL FOR ENTRIES

ELIGIBILITYCurrent AIA Birmingham Members:Submitters must be licensed or associate architects. Projects must have beencompleted after January 1, 2016 and executed anywhere in the U.S. or abroad.

PUBLIC AWARENESSIn 2021, there were 2,018 online votes for People's Choice Awards and 64,000website views. Design Awards was also featured in Birmingham Home & Gardenand winners were published online by Bham Now. We look forward to moreexposure in 2022!

Each entry will include a featured post on AIA Birmingham social mediaaccounts. Each winning project will be featured on the AIA Birmingham websitehome page for one year. Project boards will be exhibited in public spaces and atthe Alabama Center for Architecture (ACFA).

DESIGN AWARDS CATEGORIESNON-RESIDENTIALCommercial, Adaptive Reuse, Institutional, Historic Preservation, Unbuilt,Design Detail, and Multi-family Projects built after January 1, 2016.

RESIDENTIALResidential Projects built (or unbuilt) after January 1, 2016.

AWARD CATEGORIESHONOR AWARDThe Honor Award is the Jury's highest commendation for projects that exceed astandard of design excellence.

MERIT AWARDThe Merit Award is the Jury's commendation for projects that adhere to astandard of design excellence.

PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARDPublic online voting. Projects will be available for viewing on AIA Birmingham'ssocial media platforms.

CITATIONCitations may be given for projects which have specific features the jury feelscompelled to recognize. We ask the jury to specify what feature of the project isbeing recognized by award of the jury.

ENTRY FEECurrent AIA Birmingham Members:The first submission is $200, and each additional submission is $150 each. One complimentary ticket to the awards event will be provided for thesubmitting firm. Entry fee will also include access to 'Design Awards: Do's andDon'ts Virtual Seminar, by Cheryl Morgan, FAIA.

DELIVERABLESENTRY FEE + FORM DUE THURSDAY, MARCH 31, 2022Return completed entry form(s) and all associated entry fees to the AIABirmingham office. Fill out [1] entry form per project. Only [1] check is requiredfor the total fee. The first project entry is $200.00. All entry forms and feesmust be received by 5:00 pm on Thursday, March 31st.No late entries will be accepted.

POWER POINT +PRESENTATION NARRATIVEDUE FRIDAY, MAY 20, 2022After receipt of your entry form and fee, AIA Birmingham will provide an entryidentification number for each submitted project and a PowerPoint templateoutlining the project entry format. A maximum of [12] slides will be accepted perentry: [1] Project Identification Slide. Any additional slides will be removedstarting from the end of the presentation, excluding the project identificationslide, until the presentation is within the 12-slide maximum. Use the entrynumber for the file name (e.g. R-001.ppt). The PowerPoint presentation will beused by the jury to evaluate each project.

As part of your PowerPoint Presentation, tell the Jury the story of your project.A design entry should include the process, problem solving, and design thinking.Start at the beginning and walk them through the project, make them want towork, live, or experience your project. What was the design challenge? How did itimpact the community? The jury would like to see people in the representationof your projects. Be sure the narrative and the photos chosen tell the same storywithin your PowerPoint. *Do not modify the size, weight, or style of typeface in the slides. Compress allPowerPoint presentations to larger than 150 ppi.

CRITICAL DATES

PROJECT DISPLAY BOARDDUE TUESDAY, JUNE 14, 2022Each project submitted must also include a project display board formarketing and for exhibition at the Design Awards Ceremony. Theboard needs to be 20" wide by 30" tall mounted on foam core. Listthe architecture firm, project title, owner, consultants, and mustinclude a brief description about the project.

Project Display Boards must be delivered to the AIA Birmingham officeby 5:00 PM on Tuesday, June 14th.

*NOTE: Theboard will notbe used by thejury toevaluate theproject.

PHOTOGRAPHS + FIRM LOGOSDUE FRIDAY, MAY 20, 2022

Provide [6] high resolution, digital photographs that best represent eachproject. These should be between 160-600 dpi. Each photo should be no largerthan 3MB in JPG or PNG format. Use the entry number in the file name (e.g.FEATURE PHOTO R-001.jpg). Firms are also invited to submit a video clip (15sex. MAX) for use in the event presentation and marketing at our discretion.

Please include a square logo, preferably black and white if available.

PowerPoint, Logo, and Photograph must be submitted via USB drive ORDropBox/Google Drive link emailed to [email protected] ordelivered to the AIA Birmingham office by 2:00 PM on Friday, May 20th.
