paradigms and the role of the State in creating conditions of a goodlife for people where they have options
to enhance their capabilities. According to Dr. Satyal, Amartya Sen is an economist first and the book has
been written with an economist's concerns, later the issues of culture and philosophy emerge. The book
questions the state policies and its ramifications and probes into ancient, medieval times further into
modern and contemporary India and invokes the readers to argue, analyse and ponder.

Narration - Dastangoi - Dastan-e-Jallian In commemoration of Martyrdom Day, on 30th
January, 2020, Reverie, the Cultural Union of CVS
and National Services Scheme, CVS jointly
organised “Dastan-e-Jallian” presented by Ms
Ainee Farooqui and Ms Nusrat Ansari and
directed by Mahmood Farooqui.
Dastangoi is a 13th century Persian storytelling
art form which reached its zenith in the Indian sub-
continent in the 19th century. In the present,
Dastangoi was revived by historian, author and
director Mahmood Farooqui in 2005. Ainee
Farooqui and Nusrat Ansari both are the keen
enthusiast of history, heritage and culture. For
Ainee and Nusrat, Dastangoi is a medium by which
History can break out of classrooms and reach to a wider audience. After a moment of silence in memory of
the martyrs Ainee and Nusrat, two accomplished performers, in white attire, presented a riveting Dastangoi
narration of the Indian freedom struggle. Eloquent narration and spellbinding performance of the events of
Jallianwala Bagh ignited the memories of Jallianwala Bagh massacre tragedy and evoked the feeling of
nationalism.

Dr. P. L. Malhotra Memorial Lecture Series - II On 12th February, 2020, the second Dr.
P.L. Malhotra Memorial Lecture
delivered by Professor B. P. Sahu on the
topic " Making of Regions in Indian
History" was an engaging lecture on the
history of Regions and regional histories
as well as cross linkage between the two.
The talk focuses on the shifts in the
historiographic gaze on the concept of
the historical region and its multiple
meanings. It emphasises that the sense of
shared historical tradition and common
culture leading to some kind of felt
community or affiliation in a spatially
distinguishable and culturally
identifiable space evolves historically. Regions emerged as a consequence of the gradual convergence of
historical forces, including language, art and culture. While regions shape and are being continuously
reshaped by the trans-regional/pan-Indian, they are also constituted by the interplay of the sub-regions and
localities. In spite of the different regional traditions and their varying trajectories of transformation;
interactions across regions contributed to the forging of a common pool of ideas, values and symbols that
went beyond the specific regions and was distinctly pan-Indian. The interactions within and between regions
helped in the making of a composite culture.
