PREFACE—2019

Sarada Kalyan Bhandar, a women’s charitable organization, motivated by

Swamiji’s philosophy of service to the underprivileged, has crossed thirty five years

of service to the rural community. The organization continues its philanthropic work

through different projects with the mission of upliftment of youth, women and children.

The projects include providing financial support for higher education to deserving

needy and meritorious students, enabling all-round development of local rural children,

helping women to stand on their own feet with dignity and serving some old destitute

mothers. A group of dedicated volunteers with financial support from endowments,

individuals and institutions, work tirelessly to transform the vision of the projects into

reality. We sincerely hope such philanthropy also be forthcoming in future so that

we can continue our mission.

Our inspiration is Swamiji’s message of providing all–round education that truly

develops a man – “ real education is that which enables one to stand on one’s legs”.

Maa Sarada’s unconditional blessings are always helping us to go ahead.

GENERAL SECRETARY’S REPORT : 2018- 2019

Last few decades have witnessed rapid growth of non-profit non-government organizations involved in different parts of the World. Such organizations are now recognized by the people as the largest instruments for development programs among the backward poor rural community. The need of such organization today has intensified due to increase of population, depleting per capita resources and present day political-economic conditions on the one hand and rapid healthy outlook to do good to others for a decent society on the other hand.

In this context, I quote few lines from Swami Vivekananda’s message for us all, - “To devote your life to the good of all and to the happiness of all is religion. Whatever you do for your own life is not religion”.

It is for the Blessings of Swamji that Sarada Kalyan Bhandar (SKB) is stepping to its 36th year of service towards the underdeveloped backward community of West Bengal. The voyage was not always smooth but the journey taught us to face the hurdles with a positive state of mind.

I admit verily that it is with unsolicited support of our patrons, members, sponsors, donors, friends and well wishers that we are able to work on various projects with success. I heartily congratulate Sm. Bandana Ghosh, Retired Senior Manager, State Bank of India, Local Head office, Kolkata to be with us as member in the Executive committee.

Since its inception in 1984, the organization is registered under 12A of Income Tax Act and enjoyed the Income-tax exemption status by the donors under section 80G of Income Tax Act, 1961.

The overall management of the organization is entrusted to Seven Trustees and nine membered Executive Committee which implements its services through a motto to the betterment of society and welfare of impoverished backward class.

The motto of Sarada Kalyan Bhandar is very crystal through its range of activities in six projects for youth, women, old mothers and children of backward rural community.

Higher Education Project provides financial assistance to 405 students for continuing their studies from Higher Secondary to Under Graduate and Post Graduate studies including Medical, Engineering, Veterinary, Nursing and the like technical and vocational streams. Financial support to students under Higher Education Project ranges from Rs. 500/- to 2000/- per month. Books and other subsidiary educational assistance are provided to them. Our Vivekananda Library is small but enriched with 8186 valuable books.

Young talents are motivated towards various interactions through valuable seminars, competitions and classes on spiritual, social, cultural and traditional values. Eminent educationists are invited as speakers in the seminars for encouraging the young talents.

Students show commendable results in various Board and University examinations. It is a matter of pride for us. Talents are also proved when we see them placed in various reputed job or awarded scholarships by renowned universities, both inland and abroad for various Research and postdoctoral studies.

Students participate in the relief programme conducted by Sarada Kalyan Bhandar with full enthusiasm. In the year 2018, 2000 blankets, 600 Sarees & 200 Dhuti received from Ramakrishna Sarada Mission, Dakshineswar, Kolkata were distributed to the poor villagers of Paschim Medinipur.

Several memorial prizes are introduced by some of our well wishers for the brilliant academic performance of our beneficiaries.

Expenditure on Higher Education for the financial year 2018 – 2019 is Rs. 19,08,558.00.

The second major project is Child Welfare. Under this scheme, 12 villages are covered–Baisakhipally, Gabnala, Khejurdanga, Nichugope, Hamarpata, Bhagabatipally, Pakhijapally, Rangamati, Indirapally, Suryanangar, Jharnadanga and Nibeditapally. 607 children are enrolled including 35 orphans.

Children receive free regular coaching for improvement of their studies from Pre Nursery to Madhyamik level. Computer aided studies are introduced with the support of IIT Kharagpur. This has brought a revolution in the learning process of our children. I am really indebted to IIT Kharagpur for their compassion towards the children of our poor community.

Physical training, yoga, drawing, spoken English, computer, music & dance classes are conducted as part of their extra curricular activities. Children receive books, study materials, uniform, school bags, winter clothings etc. year round. Nibedita library contains 3508 books for our children.

Light tiffin, milk and fruits are given to them all six days a week.

Two lady Supervisors, five coordinators and forty-four student tutors are overall responsible for day-to-day running of its activities.

Children are showing wonderful results in their school examinations. Percentage of success varies between 98 and 99% in their School exams. 9 children appeared for Madhyamik Board examinations. All passed successfully. Two of them were placed in first Division.

Annual sports is held on 20.01.2019. This year sports Champion was Swastika Das, Class-V.

The Annual function is held on 03.03.2019. This year all round best Teachers are Biswajit Mallick & Susmita Giri and all round students are Soumeli Nandi, Buddhadev Bera, Shreya Maity, Mukteswar Mahata, Mrinmoy Patra, Sagar Manna & Pampa Mahata .

Regular health measures including supply of medicine, weekly check up etc. are routine work.

Health awareness camps and annual health survey are organized year round.

Child Welfare Project is mainly supported by Asha for Education, Vibha: Help Them Grow Inc., American Service to India (ASTI), Street Children International, Dakshini from abroad, Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Dakshineswar, Kolkata and few well wishers from India and abroad. I pay my whole hearted gratitude to them for their noble support.

I would like to express my grateful thanks to all our friends and well-wishers for their spontaneous support and compassion towards Child Welfare Centre. Their contribution has helped us to rebuild a major damage of Child Welfare Centre building, Kalyanpith.

I am also thankful to Mr. Subrata Lal Sengupta, Executive Engineer for his able guidance in this constructional work time to time.

Rs. 38,48,384.00 is spent for this Welfare Scheme in the year 2018-2019.

Aim of Women Self-Independence Promoting scheme is to spread women education, prepare them for economic stability, save waste of talents, eradicate social evils like early marriage, torture and other women atrocities and finally make them aware of their Rights and Laws existing in their favour. The time has come to assert that women are the nucleus of the society. The hand that moves the cradle governs the world. Women today need very much this universal recognition.

Scriptural & Gymnasium classes for ladies are also conducted at Sarada Kalyan Bhandar premises regularly.

Janani Suraksha Yojana is also organized by the coordinators of our Child Welfare Project.

During the FY 2018-2019, Rs. 3,07,800.00 is spent for 48 lady students.

Girl Child Efficiency Development scheme takes the responsibility of 42 girl children from class II. We aim to make the child grow with all her potentialities so that in long term they can contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic structure of the society and develop confidence and stability to ensure their place in the society. One Coordinator and 14 Teachers are engaged for this scheme.

During the FY 2018-2019, is Rs.2,82,675.00 is spent on this project.

Literacy Drive Programme all outstation students under higher education project are bound to literate two individuals in one year. It is to create a long time achievement in fighting illiteracy.

Kalpataru Project is to take care of old distress mothers surviving uncared. 40 old ladies are enrolled under this project.

Rs.1,32,779.00 is spent for them during this financial year 2018-2019.

Swami Vireswarananda Memorial Seminar was held on 16th November, 2018. Respected Pravrajika Bhaswarprana Matajee, Principal, Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Vivekananda Vidyabhayan, Kolkata spoke on

Pravrajika Muktiprana Memorial Seminar was held on 2nd December, 2018. Dr. Annapurna Chattopadhya, Former Head of the Dept. of History, Raja N.L. Khan Women’s College and Fellow of the Asiatic Society spoke on ‘The Education system of Ancient India’

Total number of beneficiary covering all projects are 1142. Total fund spent for them during the financial year 2018-2019 is Rs. 85,32,487.28.

Since the inception of Sarada Kalyan Bhandar, we, Trustees had a dream to ultimately hand over Sarada Kalyan Bhandar to Sri Sarada Math and The Ramakrishna Sarada Mission, Dakshineswar, Kolkata. We are now in the process.

I am extremely happy to announce that the authorities of Sri Sarada Math and The Ramakrishna Sarada Mission have very kindly placed Respected Pravrajika Pradiptaprana Matajee, their Trustee member and Secretary, Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Vivekananda Vidyabhaban, Kolkata as Advisor to Sarada Kalyan Bhandar from August, 2018. Matajee’s able guidance has surely given grace to our activities.

Introduction: The motto and mission of Sarada Kalyan Bhandar (SKB) has been greatly influenced

with the traditional culture and Indian heritage. The organization is blessed with the grace of Her Holiness Sri Sri Sarada Devi and Inspiration of Swami Vivekananda.

Sarada Kalyan Bhandar is a all women voluntary organization working for youth, women, children and uncared old ladies in the field of education, nutrition , health care and environmental awareness. Its field of activities is mainly with rural communities since its inception.

Motivation:

n Clarion call by Revered Swami Vireswaranandaji Maharaj, the 10th President of Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math for dedicating oneself for the welfare of poor community.

n Illiteracy among rural masses.n Women emancipation.n Raise voice against victimization of women in the society.n Protect negligence of Girl child.n Support old uncared ladies.

puller, etc.

Main Charter:

n Support financially needy meritorious girl students of rural areas for their higher education from Higher Secondary to Postgraduate including Professionals.

n Improve non-formal education of children coming from backward rural community from Nursery to Class X

n Arrange regular health camp and medical survey.n Organize Health care and Nutrition programme.n Care for orphan children.n Encourage women and girl child education. n Care of old distressed mothers. n Spread legal and social awareness among rural community.n Organize relief work in times of national calamity.n Give medical coverage to needy students, children and old ladies.n Develop a value - based healthy society.

cultural heritage.n Support talents with rich library.n Provide primary medical coverage.n Support handicapped & blinds for their academic progress.

Child Welfare:

n Improve the lifestyle of rural backward children through education, nutrition, health care, medical coverage, environmental awareness and extracurricular activities.

n Extend remedial coaching from Nursery to Class X.n Organize PT, yoga, drawing, music, dance and computer studies. n Distribute study materials, books, uniform, winter clothing & school bags to children from

Nursery to Class X.n Feed all children from Nursery to class X six days a week with nutritional tiffin and fruits.n Organize regular free health check up and distribution of free medicines.n Organize yearly medical survey and medical camps.n Arrange exposure to children by organizing competitions, extempore speeches, quiz

and paintings.n Enrich children’s library.n Ensure care of orphan children.n Arrange extra classes for drop out children.n Enlighten rural mothers regarding Janani Suraksha Yojana and encourage them enroll

under the scheme.

Women Self- Independence Promoting Scheme:

n Spread women education.n Prepare women for economic stability.n Eradicate social evils.n Create awareness in legal matters for women.

Girl Child Efficiency Development Scheme:

n Talented girl children are motivated from Class II to Class X to make them grow with confidence, all potentialities of today become the women of tomorrow through education and other extracurricular activities.

n Prepare the girl child to face the present socio-economic scenario with dignity.

Literacy Drive Program:

n Mandatory for all local students under Higher Education Scheme to extend voluntary service at Child Welfare Centre of SKB.

n Outstation students are to participate in literacy drive program.

Kalpataru Project:

n Overall care including food and clothings for old distress neglected mothers.

Gymnasium & Yoga training:

Regular gymnasium and yoga training are arranged thrice a week, exclusively for ladies and children below 12 years old. Efficient trainers conduct the training.

Spiritual classes:

n Respected Monks, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Midnapore conduct classes on first Wednesdays of the month organized by Sarada Brati Sangha, Midnapore.

Seminars:

n SKB organizes Swami Vireswarananda Memorial Lecture and Pravrajika Muktiprana Memorial Lecture every year. Eminent speakers are invited to conduct the seminars.

Audit Report under section 12A (b) of the Income-tax Act, 1961 in the case of Charitable or Religious Trusts or Institutions.

We have examined the Balance Sheet of Sarada Kalyan Bhandar, Sector F/1, Saratpally, P.O. & Dist. - Midnapore (W.B.) - 721101, a Public Charitable Trust (hereinafter called 'the Trust') as at 31st March, 2019 and the Income & Expenditure Account and the Receipts & Payments Account for the year ended on that date which are in agreement with the books of account maintained by the Trust.

We have obtained all the information and explanations which to the best of our knowledge and belief were necessary for the purpose of the audit.

In our opinion, proper books of account have been kept by the office of the above named Trust so far as appears from our examination of the books.

In our opinion and to the best of our information and according to information given to us, the said accounts give a true and fair view :-

(i) in the case of the Balance Sheet, of the state of affairs of the above-named Trust as at 31st March, 2019 and

(ii) in the case of the Income and Expenditure Account, of the surplus for its accounting year ending on 31st March, 2019

Kalpataru project feeds and takes overall care of old distress mothers surviving uncared.

Annual contribution for one Kalpataru Mother is Rs. 6,000/-

F) Enrich Corpus fund for the stability of the organization.

Corpus donation is also accepted in memory of your beloved ones.

Contribute generously to ensure our progress for socially backward Children, Women, Youth and Old Mothers of our society.

All donations to SARADA KALYAN BHANDAR are exempted from Income Tax under section 80G of Income Tax Act, 1961.

Donations can be made through Indian currency, US dollar or any Foreign Currency or bank draft in favour of SARADA KALYAN BHANDAR & mail at Sector - F/1, Saratpally, P.O. - Midnapore, Dist. – Paschim Medinipur, PIN - 721101, West Bengal.
