Benefits of Social Media

Nowadays, media is considered in a

technological ear as the most popular in the

media networks. Dabbagh & Reo said that Social

media is a 21st century term used widely to

identify a variety of network tools, or

technologies that emphasize the social aspects of

the Internet as a channel for communication,

collaboration, and creative expression, which is

often interchangeable with the terms Web 2.0 and

social software. (Dabbagh & Reo, 2011a)

2 Hijary People care more about technology because it

is easy to use it without having to think about

the limits of time and space. They can use it

anywhere and in different ways to accept their

needs in various fields.

Technological advances have increased

dramatically later on; therefore it was the

reason for the popularity of using media within

societies. Media can be in different forms such

as Television, Internet, Newspaper, and so on.

There is no much longer following up the news

through newspapers or even television. Social

media became the facilities for individuals

wherever they are. There is no doubt that social

aspects of people's lives.

Social media dominated the world and has

become an innovative way to communicate with each

other, to improve education, and to develop work

in different fields. Social media can be in

different software programs such as Facebook,

Twitter, Skype, YouTube, etc.

There have been efforts to develop

technologies in social media, to reach and create

a huge number of people who use social media to

communicate with each other, to enhance their

studying, and to improve their work.

4 Hijary Social media has both positive and negative

impacts on society and the behavior of

individuals. For example, people positively and

actively use social media in to keep in touch

with their family and friends, to improve their

studying, and to develop their work. However,

social media can affect the society negatively;

for example, the overuse of social media may lead

to addiction to Internet, and that can cause many

problems in people's lives. Social networks will

keep people isolated from the society and lead to

psychological conditions.

This research has shown a huge number of

people using social media. Even with its negative

media because it is so important to their lives.

The aim of this research is to enlighten the

benefits of social media. Social network services

have become one of the most useful means to

handle the needs of individuals in different

aspects.

There are many benefits of social media, and

this research will explain three aspects of them

through communication, studying and working.

6 Hijary Social Media in Communication

Over the last years social media quickly

became used into many aspects of our daily lives.

In other words, it became as the complement of

many parts of our lives. We can load it on

Smartphone's and use it continuously at anytime

and anywhere.

According to Anne Osterrieder '' Social media

is the ability of share content with other.'' It

allows users to share and interact online and to

connect with each other, especially like-minded

people. Recently, social media become the most

popular networks among young people.

7 Hijary Social media has different websites like

Facebook and YouTube that make it easy to keep in

touch with family and friends. It is used to

share information about what is happening and

why. Then you can decide how best to use the

available tools, including social media, to

achieve your improvements and communication.

Social media provides powerful communication

tools to engage a whole community. Researchers

think that social media has an important role but

there are concerns about the information that

some people share and the way they use it. For

example, they post details of their holidays on

Facebook, saying where they are going to and how

the impression of what they do, what they feel,

and what they experienced in their lives or get

interested in. In this case, Facebook provides a

really useful source of information and to keep

you closely to your family and friends.

Social media adds a range of very powerful

tools to know the experiences of other people and

their stories. We all need to use and manage them

wisely. Communicating through social media can

help you to use it as a communication tool. It

gives you a chance to meet new people, to connect

with your family and friends, to show more about

their experiences and stories they shared, and to

countries around the world.

Some people use social media to make a

friendly relationship with other people.

Friendship means an informal relationship without

clear boundaries or mutual responsibilities. It

affects the culture of the these sites. However,

it is not limited to be friends only on these

sites as well as they can be friends in other

contexts. It is constructed in a way that

requires people to indicate relationship or

friendship with other participants. In contrast,

there are some people do not use social media

because there are common reasons to not engage

unprofessional, posting something wrong or being

misunderstood, or lack of confidence in computer

skills. On the other hand, this does not mean

that social media is not important for them, but

they can overcome those reasons mentioned earlier

to join it, and find out how easy to access it to

take advice, to learn how to use it, and to

take advantage of the multiple benefits.

11 Hijary Social Media In Studying

Currently, education has become very

important for many people from different cultures

than ever before. Studying by using social media

has become very common for many fields around the

world. Learning on demand is becoming a type of

lifestyle in modern society ( MaLoughlin & Lee,

2007 ).

The aim of using social media is to enhance

studying, to provide convenient tools for

interaction, and to find aspects of social

network services that motivate students to

actively participate. Also, it helps students in

12 Hijary their studying and to find a reliable sites to

improve themselves in different fields.

When the students use social, media it allows

them to find content relevant to a certain topic

more easily. For example, when they search for a

specific topic, it will appear as search result

with all other data carrying the same topic. In

which researchers can share writing and general

tips of their career or their studying to enable

students to benefit from their expertise, their

advice, and their suggestions on social

networking sites.

In the simplest case, social media can

provide a high quality of relevant contents to

science and broader issues such as science

policy, funding, publishing, or personal career

development.

Besides, people become more interested in

what they will learn in the university for their

future career. In addition, it may be still hard

for students to choose a good university or

institute or college to graduate from and to

ensure the higher education. Likewise, many

people believe that studying abroad has more

advantages. Because when they study abroad, they

become more independent and more Competitive.

“The results of the study indicated that, indeed,

Also, social media gives students the

opportunity to improve their education, with

advantages, as it is taking into account the

inability of some students who may need to learn

and improve themselves in their life, education,

or their career and can't join into university,

institute, or college for specific circumstances.

So it gives them the chance to attend into

several educational programs, to help them

develop their level of education, and the

acquisition of another language they may need in

15 Hijary various positions in their career lives. In this

case, they are able to overcome barriers of time

and effort.

That means that they should enhance their

studying by using good educational programs by

social media without traveling, without more

efforts, or even without spending a lot of money.

They have many options to complete their studies

or to development themselves. For instance, they

may confuse to find a good way to enhance

studying and learning. In '' Internet and Higher

Education'' Anastasia K. , Nada D. said that

social media is used in higher education :

a problem at work, school, or to just satisfy a

curiosity. To do so, they take advantage of

digital and networked technologies not only to

seek information, but also to share information.

Thus, learners should not be considered as

passive information consumers; rather, they are

active co-producers of content. Additionally,

learning in the context of social media has

become highly self-motivated, autonomous, and

informal, as well as an integral part of the

college experience" (McGloughlin & Lee, 2010;

Smith, Salaway, & Caruso, 2009; Solomon & Schrum,

First of all most users of social media have

their own aspects to improve their work in

different ways to create successful businesses,

renown to improve marketing, and increase their

Most companies and institutions using social

media to improve and develop their work by

establishing their websites. To view their

products to show the goal of their work, and to

gain a large number of audiences who are

interested in materials they offer through their

own sites . Moreover, to increase and advertise

their products and the specific offers they have,

as social media helps them to appear in high

quality and gives them a chance to post more

followers who are interested.

In fact, social media encourages small

projects to get good chances to gain through

using multiple sites to serve their orientation.

One of them is Instagram, a social program for

viewing images and short video clips that has

widespread use. It helps to display their

products in order to gain profit in an easy way.

On the other hand, they often cannot work outside

their home for several reasons. Therefore, social

media allows them to improve their physical

preparation and acquisition of customers who are

spread of their products.

In short, social media has a large number of

users. They are using social media in different

ways in their lives. Particularly, social media

becomes the most popular in media networks. This

paper, presents examples of benefits and

effective use of social media within the society,

how it affects the society and the behavior of

individuals. This fact was indicated in many

aspects in this research; when people use social

media in accurate ways, the content will be

useful for the user, as he/she takes it

advantages and informs others about it.

22 Hijary The research revealed numerous motivating

aspects included in communication with each

other, meeting new people, in studying to get a

higher education and enhance it, and in improving

work by using social networking sites. After

all, the quality of a social networking site

depends on the quality of community within.
