Convert the Foe into a

Friend… Mathematics is every student’s first enemy and last friend. For me too, this subject has been a nightmare. I never en-joyed understanding n+1 and n-1 and finding the value of x and y. During school days more importance was given to one’s proficiency over mathematics than any other talent the student may possess. I used to shed tears at the thought of maths exams. The marks one scores in maths makes or breaks one’s academic and professional career. Though some proficiency is required in basic calculations and mathematical applications, it is not mandatory for all learners to be exemplary in mathematics. Many students have extraordinary talent in arts, music, fashion, performing arts which should be encouraged and nurtured. Mathematics is not to be all and end all of life. But for Engineering students, their inclination to understand basic concepts and repeated practice will make them love the subject. I urge all my school friends and college mates to apply themselves and they can easily crack it!! Go for it, my dear friends….

Bottled or canned foods are one of the most significant products obtained from food industries. Bottling of food products is a very

helpful technique to transport and utilize hygienic food products in all seasons. Meat, fish and vegetables can be preserved for months

in a state that is very similar to its original form. Therefore, it is a very important process in manufacturing and preservation

industries. The process involves cooking of the contents, sealing them in sterile

cans or jars and boiling the containers to kill any remaining bacteria as form of pasteurization.

Canning utensils that are commonly used: Jar lifter: It is used for removal of hot jars

Jar funnel: It helps in pouring the contents into canning jars Narrow, flat rubber spatula: It is used for removing trapped air bub-

bles before sealing the jars.

There are also many special utensils available like apple slicers, cutting spoons for coring and pit removal, corn cutters and fruit

skinners.

Bottled foods are one of the great contributions of the eighteenth century to the world. It symbolized a revolution for those in charge

of provisioning an army or a crew on board ship during long voyages.

Hair loss is the most apparent physical sign of the battle against cancer. Its impact is more significant in the lower stage. As everyone knows hair loss occurs because of chemotherapy, which targets all rapidly dividing cell and some chemotherapy drugs affect only the hair on your head. Hair donation is our duty. Our body does not get affected if we donate hair. Our hair can repair the loss within few months. Donating your hair is an inestimable personal gift than sending a fund to a charity. You’re sending a piece of yourself to a kid or adult who needed it. So we must come forward to donate hair. Gift hair Gift confidence My frame of mind towards hair loss due to cancer cell value to put up my hair. Chop chop! I had been thinking of getting a new look and I decided. If two people get a new look if I cut my locks off then okay, let’s do this. Ac-tually it took days to make decision, but you know what helped? Gratitude. Let me explain, I was nervous and un-sure that I should to chop it all. But then I realized I had a privilege to keep my hair. WHAT ABOUT THOSE WHO DON’T HAVE IT? And I immediately talked out to my dad about hair dona-tion, did my groundwork and made the decision immedi-ately-I have cut 12 inches and donating it to someone who needed it. I could grow it all out, but some didn’t have the choice , This is the least help that I could do to show my support , I urge you to donate .

©Avinashilingam University

Be a blessing to others in every way you can. I still had major questions about the process, WHERE TO DO? , HOW MANY HAIRS MAKE A WIG? WHAT KIND OF HAIR? Here’s what I learned. Where can I cut the hair? You can cut the hair at home or at any salons. Follow the donation guidelines. What hair length can be donated? All the donated hair should be above 10 inches length. How many Hair donations make a wig? Ideally, 5-6 donors with similar hair length color and texture make a wig. What kind of Hair can be donated? Donor may donate any hair of natural color texture such as straight, curly, black and brown. hair donated should be free from chemical treatments such as dye, henna, and bleach.

GO OUT AND DONATE; you’ll be changing someone’s life, and as an added bonus, getting a cute new hair cut!

Complaints, tantrums, inferiority complex- we never let go of them. To sum it all, we never stop being ungrateful. I was no exception. But a little girl taught me the lesson of gratefulness. It all began when I missed my last bus of hope to make it in time to a class. I was tensed and sure that I can’t make it in time. My mind want-ed to blame my mom at that moment. If only she had woken me early instead of spending time talking to her neighbour. Anything to find an excuse. That was when my busy eyes found a little girl on the street. She was probably 6 or 7 years old , with a begging bowl that hardly re-sembles one. Her thin clothes were torn and her bare feet were bleeding. It was an extremely painful sight. People were moving here and there but nobody had a penny to spare for the little girl. I went to her and put 10 rupees in her bowl. She stared at me with her black orb deep eyes. I realised that despite her shabby appear-ance, she was quite ‘beautiful’. She then spoke in Tamil, “ akka enakku sapadu vangi thanga ka , saptu romba naal achu". I was taken aback by her words. I went to the nearest hotel with her trailing behind me.

©Avinashilingam University

I was contemplated on whether I should take back my 10 rupees back from her for her food. Unwittingly I took another 10 rupees from my pouch and bought 2 idlies for the girl. As soon as she received it, she started running away. ‘Wow, no thanks?’, I wondered. My curiosity got the best of me. Why did she run with bleeding legs? I ended up sneakily following her to her home, that was barely just a stack of bricks that could crumble any moment. I was still scared but I kept going. I had no idea if what I was doing is right. I en-tered the single room without a door and saw a beyond shabby place. Her ill mother lay on a corner just under the sink. Her frail hands trembling as she opened the idly packet her daughter brought for her. I couldn’t stand there anymore and made my way to my home. I just realized how rich I was after that. The tiles of my home suddenly felt luxurious enough to sleep on. I had good parents and money enough to survive. The so called struggles of my life to which I thought death was better meant nothing right now. How blind was I? I realized I have so many things to thank god for. I learnt my lesson of grate-fulness. When will you learn?.....

Artificial Intelligence has revolutionized the

finance Industry in the past years.

Fintech companies and the financial firms were

the early adopters of relational databases and

mainframe computers.

Now with the development in technologies the

next generation of computational and analysis

power is playing a great role in financial indus-

try.

AI helps Fintech companies in resolving

human problems, by enhancing efficiency and it

improves results by applying various methods de-

rived from the various aspects of Human Intelli-

gence that is beyond human scale.

The AI team works on behalf of the bank and

includes systems that can detect payment fraud

or misconduct by employees. It uses the

technologies that can give customers more

personal recommendations on various

financial products.

Role of AI in Banks and Fintech companies

©Avinashilingam University

By the use of modern technologies, banks allow the usage of AI to develop products that can of-fer customers more at lower prices. In the past, prod-uct options were limited, and this was followed by strict policies that made the customer dissatisfied and annoyed with the banking system. Now financial insti-tutions have a better understanding of clients and of-fer or recommend choices based on their actual requirements and needs. FinTechs scoring algorithms help to get complete infor-mation about each account holder, their transactions, investments and the policies adopted by them in an easier way. On the other hand, the reverse predictive analysis highlights every opportunity and helps the customer in choosing the right product or service. Moreover, all of this information can be accessed online on FinTech websites and mobile apps. Thus artificial intelligence has simplified banking and the finance industry.
