“A sumptuous

treat from

beginning to end”

Andrew Clarke,

East Anglian

Daily Times

Written and Directed by Pete Rowe and presented by New Wolsey Theatre

THURSDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER TO SATURDAY 9TH OCTOBER 2021

With a soundtrack of 1980’s hits played live by our multi-talented actor musicians, football sequences re-created by our community chorus of young people and a gallery of famous faces, Never Lost At Home is a musical celebration of family and community, guaranteed to lift your spirits whether you’re a football fan or not.

Never Lost At Home is the follow up to Our Blue Heaven, our sell-out show of 2018 celebrating the 40th anniversary of Ipswich town winning the FA Cup and we welcome back Peter Peverley returning as Bobby Robson.

“A sumptuous treat from beginning to end”,Andrew Clarke, East Anglian Daily Times.

6th May 1981: The day that football came home! Many people believe the 1980-81 season was the greatest in the history of Ipswich Town Football Club when Bobby Robson’s small, skilful and heroic squad finally claimed the UEFA cup, the first European Trophy in the club’s history. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of this famous victory the New Wolsey is telling the story through the eyes of a family of obsessive Ipswich fans, as they follow their heroes around Europe. By plane, train, car ferry and car boot, through Greek Riots, Polish revolution, Czech blizzard and French mud, players and fans both fight their way to a final party in the streets and canals of Amsterdam.

“A hat trick!”

Our people...have been extraordinary. We pay tribute to each and every one of them, staff and freelancers alike, from every department, for their flexibility, commitment and passion. And you have been extraordinary too. Our patrons have made donations, watched shows online, flocked to see The Snow Queen (twice!) and waited patiently for the right moment to return. For that we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. At every step we’ve had your safety, comfort and enjoyment as our priority and we’ll continue to do so.

Please take your seats. The interval is over and the shows are about to begin. This season is a confident step into the future and we warmly invite you to step into that future with us.

for picking up this brochure. We hope that just having it in your hand feels good and brings you closer to theatre once again.

A year ago we described the closure as an interval. We’ve eaten all the ice creams, completely refurbished the toilets and probably eaten too many sweeties in the longest interval ever. We also learned a great deal. You will notice the word livestream appears a number of times in this brochure. Who knew that we’d turn ourselves into a media-streaming, camera-operating, livestreaming team of technical wizards? But we have.

This means you can watch ourown shows, like Never Lost atHome and Jack and the Beanstalk, from the comfort ofyour home in real time (althoughwe’d love it if you come to seeus here in the theatre too).

has become adept at working with young people over Zoom, sometimes mixing online and in-person workshops at the same time if that’s what it takes to include everyone. That’s not easy to do but they managed it brilliantly and they continue to reach out to our community to share skills and support creativity.

And we’ve learned how to podcast too. Theatre Unwrapped shares all manner of fascinating stories connected with theatre. You can listen from our website or find it on your podcast directory.

On a sweltering Mississippi night, the lies are as stifling as the heat. Maggie has fought up from poverty, only to find herself in a passionless, burning marriage. of control, the family set out to protect themselves, and each other, from falling apart.

This bold new revival of Tennessee Williams’ lyrical Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece is a blazing portrayal of what it takes to survive in a society where we’re all desperate to feel free. Supported by a grant from Royal Theatrical Support Trust.

Adapted by award-winning playwright Bryony Lavery, the production features creatively integrated sign language, audio description and captioning. Oliver Twist is in association with Ramps On The Moon. Now in its fifth year, this pioneering initiative from seven major UK theatre companies is committed to putting D/deaf and disabled artists and audiences at the centre of their work.

‘moves like hyper-Dickens’,The Guardian

Born into poverty and misfortune, Oliver Twist escapes the workhouse for a life of adventure where he joins Artful Dodger, Fagin and their mischievous gang of pick pockets. But the enjoyment is short lived as he falls under the influence of the vicious Bill Sykes.

This landmark production has been specially filmed for audiences to enjoy online at home. Bold, brutal and beautiful this highly acclaimed version of Oliver Twist sends you on a dark adventure through the twisted streets of London.

WE LOVE TREESThis brochure has been fully carbon balancedfor paper and production via the World Land Trust.

We are striving to reduce our carbon footprint. This includes considering the environment in all our purchasing and sourcing decisions. For example, in 2020-21 the refurbishment of the auditorium and front of house areas, and the construction of NW2, included installation of low energy consumption LED lighting. We will publish information annually about the steps we are taking to reduce our impact on the environment and we will make this available on our website.
