IT’S OHIO STATE. IT’S MICHIGAN. RIVALRY RENEWED FRIDAY UNDER THE LIGHTS• Ohio State and Michigan renew their rivalry

on the lacrosse fi eld Friday, as the team teams close regular season play with a 6 p.m. contest at U-M Lacrosse Stadium in Ann Arbor.

• The Buckeyes come into the game with an 8-3 overall record and No. 10 ranking in all three major polls this week.

• Since Michigan made the move to Division I lacrosse in 2012, the Buckeyes are a perfect 7-0 against their rivals. Last year, Ohio State won 8-5 at Ohio Stadium behind a 4-1 third-quarter run and hat trick from Tre Leclaire.

• Leclaire leads the off ense – with averages nearly 12 goals per game – with 37 points on 34 goals and three assists. He has multiple goals in all 11 games thus far.

• Three other players – Jack Myers, Jackson Reid and Jack Jasinski – have 30 or more points this year. Much of the off ensive effi ciency has been due to the face-off play of Justin Inacio, who is over 60 percent on the season.

• The defense is keyed by senior Matt Borges, a 47-game career starter, and two-time All-American Ryan Terefenko and SSDM. Terefenko was a midseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse.

Another chapter of the Michigan-Ohio State men’s lacrosse rivalry will be written on Fri-day night as the Wolverines and Buckeyes square off at 6 p.m. in Ann Arbor. The game will be carried live on ESPNU with Chris Cotter and former Princeton All-American Ryan Boyle on the call.

BUCKEYES IN A NUTSHELL• Ohio State stands at 8-3 overall and 1-3 in the Big Ten following last week’s 10-9 over-time setback against No. 2 Maryland. The Buckeyes are No. 10 in the USILA Coaches Poll, Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and US Lacrosse Magazine Poll.• The Buckeyes’ off ense, which ranks No. 28 nationally in goals per game, features four players who have 30 or more points on the season. First among them is junior Tre Leclaire, who is third in the Big Ten averag-ing 3.09 goals per game. • Leclaire’s 37 points are complimented by 33 from freshman Jack Myers (15 goals, 18 assists) and 32 from sophomore Jackson Reid (24 goals, eight assists). The fourth member of the 30-point club is Jack Jasin-ski, who this third on the squad in goals (21) and second in assists (11).• The two other double fi gure scorers for Ohio State thus far are junior Lukas Buckley (fi ve goals, eight assists, 15 points) and sophomore Colby Smith (nine goals, six as-sists, 15 points). Overall, 13 diff erent players have scored multiple goals and eight have multiple assists.• Sophomore Justin Inacio has followed up his Big Ten Freshmen of the Year season in 2018 with another strong showing in 2019. He’s currently 19th in the country in face-off win percentage (.610) and has won 10 or more in all 11 games this season.• The defense is led by this season’s four captains – close defensemen Matt Borges and Jeff Henrick along with defensive midfi elders Ryan Terefenko and Logan Mac-cani. As a unit, the group has accounted for 91 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers.• In goal, sophomore Josh Kirson has started 10 of 11 games with a 10.32 goals against average, .518 save percentage and 114 total stops. Kirson’s goals-against aver-age is third best in the Big Ten and his save percentage is fourth.

SCOUTING MICHIGAN• The Wolverines enter Friday’s game with a 3-9 record (0-4 B1G) after a hard-fought 11-9 loss at Rutgers last Saturday.• Michigan owns wins this year over Cleve-

land State (10-8), Jacksonville (11-10) and St. John’s (16-11) with narrow losses to Drexel (17-16 in 3 OT), Notre Dame (12-9), Mar-quette (16-13) and Delaware (16-13).• Sophomore Alex Buckanavage has multiple points for UM is 10 of 11 games and leads the team in both goals (24), assists (19) and points (43). His teammate on attack is Kevin Mack, who is second with 36 points (18 goals, 18 assists).• On defense, senior Nick DeCaprio leads the team with 17 caused turnovers, includ-ing eight two weeks ago in a 17-7 loss to No. 1 Penn State.• Goalie Gunner Garn has started each of the last four games and has a .437 save percentage, 14.77 goals-against average and 45 total stops.• The head coach of the Wolverines is Kevin Conry, who is in his second season in Ann Arbor after spending fi ve seasons as the defensive coordinator at Maryland.

HISTORY AGAINST THE WOLVERINES• Since Michigan’s arrival as a Division I program in 2012, the Buckeyes own a 7-0 record against the Maze and Blue. Four se-nior classes have gone undefeated against UM in their careers.• Last year in Columbus, Tre Leclaire scored three goals and the Buckeyes went on a 4-1 run in the third quarter to come away with an 8-5 victory.• Friday will be the fi rst game in the series that’s been played at the U-M Lacrosse Stadium. The Buckeyes’ four previous wins in Ann Arbor came inside Michigan Stadium. Ohio State has played once at the U-M Lacrosse Stadium – in the semifi nals of last year’s Big Ten Tournament.

CAREER VS. MICHIGAN• As a freshman in 2017, Tre Leclaire en-joyed the most productive day of his career, fi nishing with eight points on three goals and fi ve assists. In two games against the Wolverines, he has 11 points (six goals, fi ve assists) – the most against any opponent on Ohio State’s schedule.• Jack Jasinski has four goals and an assist in three games vs. the Wolverines. • In last year’s game, goalie Josh Kirson was making his fourth career start and held the Wolverines to just two second-half goals. The fi ve total goals that he gave up is still a career high for game’s that he’s started.

COMEBACK KIDS• Ohio State has twice erased defi cits of fi ve goals to come back and win games this season: March 23 at Notre Dame (trailed 7-2 in the third quarter; won 11-10 in over-time) and April 14 at Johns Hopkins (trailed 8-2 in the second quarter; won 14-13).• The Buckeyes have trailed by 3-5 goals at halftime in each of the last fi ve games but have outscored opponents 20-9 in the third quarter of those games.

BORGES FINISHING STRONG• Senior captain Matt Borges is enjoying one of the most statistically productive seasons of his career. He is currently ranks third in the Big Ten with an average of 1.36 caused turnovers per game. He’s caused at least one turnover in 10 straight games.• Borges’ caused turnovers per game is the most by an Ohio State defensemen since Keenan Ochwat (1.87) in 2012.

AN INSTANT IMPACT• Freshman Jack Myers ranks second in the Big Ten amongst freshmen with 3.30 points per game and is fi rst in total assists (18).• Myers’ 18 assists are the most by an Ohio State freshman since Logan Schuss had 25 during the 2010 season.• Among freshmen nationally, Myers is 10th in points per game and fourth in total assists.

INACIO VS. THE ELITE• Justin Inacio has shown no signs of a sophomore slump, as the 2018 Big Ten Freshman of the Year has more than held his own in the face-off X against some of the nation’s best.• Three weeks ago against Penn State’s Gerard Arceri (No. 13 nationally), Inacio won 12-of-23. A week later at John’s Hopkins and vs. Kyle Prouty (No. 17), he won 14-of-26, including 10 of the game’s last 11. Finally, last week vs. Maryland, Inacio went 11-of-17 against Austin Henningsen (No. 13) and 15-of-23 overall.• Over the last four games against oppo-nents who rank in the top 20 nationally – Inacio is 37-of-66 (.560).

HUNTINGTON BUCKS GO PRO 1.0• Five members of the Ohio State men’s lacrosse team will spend this summer in Columbus as part of the Huntington Bucks Go Pro 1.0 intern class, which in total is comprised of a program-record 46 student athletes representing 24 diff erent

Buckeyes sports programs.• The fi ve Buckeye lacrosse representa-tives are: Anthony Ameo – camps; Omari DeBerry – Buckeye Leadership Fellows; Brandon Fisher – Sports Administration; Jack Rennillo – Student Life and Ryan Terefenko – Coaching• The Huntington Bucks Go Pro 1.0 Intern-ship program, which is the most tenured program in the Eugene D. Smith Leader-ship Institute, runs eight weeks over the summer and allows student-athletes to gain important hands-on professional experience.

YOUTH MOVEMENT• Half of Ohio State’s total point production this year has come from underclassmen (99 of 198).• The Buckeyes’ sophomore class has ac-counted for just over 30 percent of Ohio State’s point production (60 points, led by 32 from Jackson Reid).• 86 of Ohio State’s 131 goals scored this year have some from either sophomores or juniors.

HEAD COACH NICK MYERSIn 10-plus seasons at the helm of the Ohio State men’s lacrosse pro-gram, head coach Nick Myers has taken the Buckeyes to places they’ve never been before. And through his tireless eff orts – and those of his coaching staff – he also has Ohio State primed for even greater heights moving forward. Over his fi rst 11 seasons, Myers has posted a 101-73 ledger overall and a 34-25 conference record. Ohio State’s ascension culminated with a trip to the 2017 Final Four and national championship game. Myers also has the programs fi rst postseason title on his resume (2013 ECAC Tournament championship), in addition to two Creator’s Trophy titles, a share of a league regular-season title, a spot in the NCAA quarterfi nals three times (2013, ’15, ‘17) and to a No. 3 seed in the 2013 and 2017 NCAA Tournaments. Under his tutelage, members of the program have garnered 21 USILA All-America honors, 44 all-conference nods and 11 conference player of the year accolades. Over the past 10 years, members of the Ohio State squad have earned 174 Academic All-Big Ten accolades and 243 Ohio State Scholar-Athlete nods, along with the fi rst 12 USILA Scholar All-American selections in program history. The team’s community service numbers rise each year, with the program volunteering more than 2,500 hours in the community the last six seasons combined. In 2018, Myers and the Buckeyes played their best lacrosse in the fi nal month of the season, rallying to knock off No. 20 Michigan, No. 1 Maryland and No. 9 Rutgers in three consecutive weeks to earn a birth to the Big Ten Tournament. In the process, Myers also became the winningest coach in program history, notching his 93rd career triumph in a 10-7 victory over the Scarlet Knights. Myers and his staff coached a Big Ten Freshmen of the Year (Justin Inacio) for the second consecu-tive season while also producing four USILA All-Americans: Ben Randall (fi rst team), Ryan Terefenko (third team), Tre Leclaire (honorable men-tion) and Erik Evans (honorable mention). Myers’ 2017 team put together a memorable run that resulted in the program’s fi rst-ever trip to Championship Weekend. The Buckeyes set a school record by winning 16 games and by virtue of a 16-11 win over Duke in the NCAA Quarterfi nals, advanced to the Final Four. In Fox-boro, the Buckeyes came from behind to beat Towson in the national semifi nals, punching a ticket college lacrosse’s biggest stage: the

Along the way, several of Myers’ players earned recognition: junior defenseman Ben Randall became the fi rst Buckeye in program history to be a USILA First Team All-American while faceoff spe-cialist Jake Withers earned second team honors, Tre Leclaire and Tom Carey were third team selections and Eric Fannell and Ryan Terefenko were honorable mention choices. The four fi rst/second/third team honorees are a program best. During the Summer of 2016, Myers led Team USA to the gold medal at the FIL Under-19 World Championship. The squad was 6-0 in the tournament and rallied from an 8-2 defi cit in the championship game to win the title, Team USA’s eighth consecu-tive gold medal. The 2016 the Buckeyes (7-8) took on a Top 20 team in eight of their fi nal nine games and had fi ve one-goal decisions. Buckeyes claimed half of the Big Ten Player of the Year awards, with Robby Haus named defensive player of the year and Jake Withers receiving specialist honors; both were also named First Team All-Big Ten. Haus, who was a Third Team All-American, was joined by Carter Brown as USILA Scholar All-Americans. The Show-down in The Shoe, which had a crowd of nearly 55,000 by the end of the game, saw the Buckeyes post their fi fth consecutive win over Michigan. Twenty-four Buckeyes represented the program at the Scholar-Athlete Dinner and 14 were named to the Academic All-Big Ten squad. In 2015, Myers led the Buckeyes into a new era, as the Big Ten Conference sponsored men’s lacrosse for the fi rst time. Ohio State, which ended the year 12-7 overall (3-2 B1G), advanced to the inaugural Big Ten Tournament championship game and earned an at-large spot in the NCAA

Tournament. In the fi rst round of the NCAA tourney, the Buckeyes went on the road and defeated two-time defending cham-pion Duke before falling in the quarterfi nals to eventual national champion Denver. Dur-ing the season, the Buckeyes claimed the Creator’s Trophy with road wins over Penn State and Michigan and topped three of the NCAA semifi nalists while also hosting the Showdown in The Shoe before a crowd of more than 44,000 by the end of the game. Three Buckeyes earned USILA All-America accolades, as Jesse King and Haus were named to the third team and Tom Carey was an honorable mention choice, while fi ve were recognized by the Big Ten, with King and Brown named First Team All-Big Ten. Academically, 24 Buckeyes were invited to the Scholar-Athlete Dinner, with 15 earning a spot on the Academic All-Big Ten Team, and Turner Evans and Christo-pher May both were named USILA Scholar All-Americans. In 2014, the Buckeyes (6-8) shared the ECAC regular season title in the last year competing in the conference, posting a 3-1 league ledger and earning a spot in the conference tournament. The Showdown in the Shoe returned to Ohio Stadium, with the Buckeyes downing Michigan in front of more than 31,000 fans prior to the Ohio State football spring game. Joe Meurer was named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year and led eight Buckeyes as all-conference selections. Meurer and King, a Tewaaraton Award Top 25 candi-date, earned USILA All-America accolades, with King on the third team and Meurer an honorable mention pick. Meurer also was named a Scholar All-American by the USILA. The 2013 campaign was one of the best in program history, posting a 13-4 ledger

for the most wins for a Buckeye team since 1978. Ten of the victories were during the regular season, just the fi fth time a Buckeye team hit double-digit wins before entering postseason play. The squad downed both Penn State and Michigan on the road to claim the Creator’s Trophy for the fi rst time. Wins over ranked opponents Loyola and Denver lifted the Buckeyes to the ECAC tournament crown and the No. 3 seed in the NCAA tournament. Nearly 2,400 fans – a number that ranked fourth nationally among all fi rst-round sites – watched the Buckeyes beat Towson 16-6 to advance to the NCAA quarterfi nals for the second time in school history. Individually, Logan Schuss became the program’s all-time leading goal scorer and a two-time ECAC Off ensive Player of the Year, as well as the fi rst Buckeye to earn fi rst team all-conference accolades four times. Schuss was a second team All-American and Dominique Alexander, King and Meurer all were named honorable mention All-Americans, just the second time in program history four Buckeyes were recognized and the fi rst time since 2008. Three Buckeyes – Schuss, Alexander and Trey Wilkes – were named USILA Scholar All-Americans. The 2012 campaign saw the Buckeyes (8-7) earn a spot in the ECAC tournament semifi nals after fi nishing second in the regular season with a 5-1 league ledger. Schuss was named the ECAC Off ensive Player of the Year and joined Joe Bonanni on the USILA All-America third team, with four Buckeyes named to the All-ECAC team. Matt Kawamoto and Bonanni became the fi rst USILA Scholar All-Americans in program history. In 2011, the Buckeyes (8-8) earned a spot in the inaugural ECAC tournament.

PROUDThe team was 5-2 at home, including a 13-8 upset of No. 3-ranked North Carolina Feb. 19 in Ohio Stadium, the program’s fi rst win over a Top 3 opponent in history. A record 28 Buckeyes were invited to the Scholar-Athlete dinner, with a league-high 10 Ohio State players named to the ECAC All-Aca-demic team. Kawamoto, a USILA Honorable Mention All-American, picked up ECAC Defensive Player of the Year accolades and was one of four Buckeyes named to the all-conference teams. In 2010, the Buckeyes (7-8) faced one of the toughest schedules in the nation as they began play as a member of the ECAC Lacrosse League. The squad had a 5-2 ledger at home, and highlighting the home slate was the third-annual Showdown in The Shoe when the Buckeyes topped Air Force with an NCAA record attendance of 31,078. Schuss was named ECAC Rookie of the Year and became the fi rst Buckeye freshman to nab All-America honors after leading the ECAC in points per game and was one of two Buckeyes recognized on the all-conference team. In 2009, his fi rst season at the helm of the Buckeye program, Myers led Ohio State (8-8) to a spot in the Great Western Lacrosse League championship game after a third-place fi nish in the league’s regular-season standings despite losing two All-Americans and four all-conference selec-tions from the 2008 squad that reached the

NCAA quarterfi nals. Senior All-American Joel Dalgarno, who fi nished his career as Ohio State’s all-time leading goal scorer and ranked second all-time in points, led the GWLL and was sixth nationally with 3.81 points per game. In all, seven Buckeyes were named all-conference, with two fi rst team selections. As the top assistant under Joe Bres-chi at Ohio State from 2006-08, Myers served as the off ensive coordinator for the Buckeyes, oversaw recruiting and handled other aspects of the day-to-day operation of the men’s lacrosse program. In 2008, Myers helped guide the Buckeyes to a share of the Great Western Lacrosse League regular-season title and an at-large berth into the NCAA tourna-ment. The team downed Cornell on the road for the program’s fi rst NCAA tourna-ment victory and berth in the quarterfi nal round. He was the off ensive coordinator as the Buckeyes ended the season third in the NCAA in scoring off ense (13.2 goals per game) and extra-man off ense (45.7 percent). Myers began his coaching career as the volunteer coach for the Buckeyes for two seasons (2002, ’03) and was on the Buck-eye staff when the squad earned a spot in the NCAA tournament in 2003, the fi rst appearance in program history, and shared the GWLL title. He spent the 2004 and ’05 campaigns

as the top assistant coach at Butler before rejoining the Buckeye staff in 2006. Myers played for Springfi eld College in Massachusetts, earning Division III All-America honors in 2001. He was a three-time All-NEWMAC selection and was the 2000 conference player of the year. Myers graduated from Springfi eld with a degree in sports studies/physical educa-tion in 2001. In 2016 he was named to the inaugural Springfi eld College 40 Under 40 class. A native of Kennebunk, Maine, Myers graduated from Kennebunk High School in 1997. He was a two-time high school All-American and participated in the 1997 North-South All-Star Game. Myers married the former Julie Cowles, also a Springfi eld College graduate. The couple lives in Columbus with their sons, Mason and Zachary. Myers’ brother, Pat, was a four-year let-terwinner for the Buckeyes from 2000-03, a two-time All-Great Western Lacrosse League honoree and the conference rookie of the year in 2000. He has been an as-sistant coach at North Carolina, Cornell, Bucknell and Penn and was hired in June as the head coach at Lafayette College.

A fast-starting Ohio State off ense scored seven fi rst-quarter goals and opened up a 10-3 halftime lead en route to a 17-10 victory over Boston University on Saturday inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

A week after combining for six goals in a season-opening win over Cleveland State, the tandem of Jack Jasinski and Tre Leclaire was at it again. Jasinski and Leclaire combined to score nine times – a career-high fi ve goals from Jasinski and four from Leclaire. The Buckeyes’ off ense was both explosive and balanced: eight diff erent players scored at least once and four players had multiple goals.

Tre Leclaire’s four goals and a 17-save performance by Josh Kirson lifted No. 13 Ohio State to an 11-7 victory on Saturday over Massachusetts at Garber Field.

Leclaire’s off ensive performance was backed up by two goals and two assists from Jack Jasinski and a one-goal, three-assist eff ort from Jack Myers. Jackson Reid, Ryan Terefenko, Colby Smith and Johnny Wiseman all added scores as well. Justin Inacio was also key to the Buckeyes’ eff ort, winning 14 of 22 face-off s. Freshman Jack Myers made his fi rst game in Ohio Stadium one to remember, as he scored seven times and added an assist to help No. 11 Ohio State earn a hard-fought 16-13 victory over Bucknell.

Myers’ seven goals – tied for the seventh highest in single-game history and the most since Logan Schuss scored seven vs. Detroit in 2013 – was backed up by hat tricks from Jack Jasinski and Colby Smith (3G, 2A, 5 points). The Buckeyes scored 11 times in the second and third quarters to build a 14-6 lead and then survived a late Bucknell rally.

A fi ve-goal performance from sophomore Jackson Reid, coupled with a strong defense eff ort in front of goalie Josh Kirson, lifted the ninth-ranked Ohio State men’s lacrosse team to a 13-9 victory over Marquette on Saturday in the Patriot Cup at SMU’s Ford Stadium.

Jackson’s fi ve-goal showing was backed up by a hat trick from junior Tre Leclaire, who now has a team-high 16 goals on the season. Ryan Terefenko also got into the act with a pair of goals, three ground balls and one caused turnover. Senior Jack Jasinski notched multiple points for the fi fth straight contest, fi nishing with a goal and three assists.

Recent history in the Ohio State-Notre Dame series has shown that the Buckeyes and Irish are often destined to battle in a game decided by one goal. Saturday was no diff erent, as Ohio State fought back from a fi ve-goal second half defi cit to edge the Irish in overtime, 11-10, on a game-winner from Colby Smith in South Bend.

Ohio State erased a 7-2 defi cit with a fl urry of goals in the third and fourth quarters. In all, the Buckeyes scored eight of the game’s nine goals in a 27 minute span to turn a 7-2 defi cit into a 10-8 lead. Notre Dame would force overtime with a pair of goals in the fi nal 1:10 of regulation, but goalie Josh Kirson made a point-blank save on a Brian Willetts shot early in the OT, leading to Smith’s game-winning shot to the upper left corner of the cage 52 seconds into the extra session.

Ohio State opened the Big Ten portion of its schedule with a 14-6 setback against Rutgers on Sunday afternoon inside Ohio Stadium. With the loss, the Buckeyes are 7-1 on the season while the Scarlet Knights improve to 6-4.

Ohio State scored the game’s fi rst goal – just 45 seconds into the opening quarter – but trailed the rest of the way after Rutgers scored six straight over the fi rst and second quarters. Junior Tre Leclaire scored twice on the day to lead an off ense that gener-ated 45 shots, but Rutgers goalie Max Edelmann made 17 saves.

The Buckeyes’ Justin Inacio controlled the game in the face-off X, winning 17-of-22 on the afternoon while also picking up more ground balls (30) than the Scarlet Knights (28).

The seventh-ranked Ohio State men’s lacrosse team dropped a hard-fought 13-8 decision to No. 1 Penn State on Sunday night at Panzer Stadium. The Buckeyes are 7-2 on the season (0-2 B1G) while the Nittany Lions improve to 9-1 (2-0 B1G).

Ohio State was paced on off ense Sunday by junior Tre Leclaire, who scored a game-high four goals. The Buckeyes’ four other goals all came from diff erent players – Jackson Reid, Jack Jasin-ski, Jack Myers and Lukas Buckley. Reid added two assists on the night.

Defensively, Ohio State limited Penn State to four goal below its season average. Key to that eff ort was senior Matt Borges, who caused two turnovers and picked up fi ve ground balls.

Eighth-ranked Ohio State picked up its fi rst Big Ten win of the season in dramatic fashion on Sunday, erasing a six-goal fi rst half defi cit and scoring the game-winning goal with 49 sec-onds remaining for a 14-13 victory at No. 15 Johns Hopkins. The Buckeyes – who improve to 8-2 overall and 1-2 in the B1G – also were victorious at JHU’s Homewood Field for the fi rst time in program history.

Jackson Reid scored fi ve goals – including the game-clincher with under one minute to play – and Tre Leclaire and Johnny Wiseman backed up his eff orts with hat tricks to lead a balanced Ohio State off ensive eff ort. The Buckeyes outscored Johns Hopkins (6-5, 2-1 B1G) 11-5 in the second half and won 10 of the game’s fi nal 11 face-off s.

Ohio State and Maryland have had a knack for playing close games ever since they became yearly foes with the formation of Big Ten lacrosse in 2015. Saturday was no diff erent at Ohio Stadium, as the two teams battled into overtime before the Terra-pins slipped by the Buckeyes, 10-9. The game was played in front of 3,324 fans, a non-Spring Game record for Ohio State.

Ohio State overcame a 6-2 halftime defi cit with a fl urry of off ense in the second half, keyed by the play of Tre Leclaire (two goals), Jackson Reid (two goals) and Jack Myers (one goal, three as-sists). The Buckeyes took a 9-8 lead with just 3:40 remaining in the fourth quarter on an extra-man conversion, but Maryland tied the score at 9-9 with 23 seconds remaining and then scored the game-winner 30 seconds into the extra session.
