ISR:

Social responsibility is an ethical theory, in which individuals are accountable for fulfilling

their civic duty; the actions of an individual must benefit the whole of society. If this equilibrium is

maintained, then social responsibility is accomplished.

Our institution is situated in the rural background away from the bustle of the Coimbatore

city. Rural children, many first generations to be educated with poor financial background form the

majority of the strength of our institution. Therefore, it is our social responsibility to uplift the

Pioneer College of Arts and Science AQAR 2017-2018

32

quality of life of these children and make them responsible citizens of tomorrow. We identified the

following issues and took up the moral responsibility of solving those issues largely. Financial

crunch, lack of enough knowledge and information, cultural ethics and moral values, extending

service to the old age homes, local schools and preserving pollution free environment were looked

into in our best practices.

Financial support arranged by the Institution

Our Management with the aim of helping the needy students for their education contributed

an amount of Rs.1,44,400 and arranged scholarships from other sources amounting to Rs.2,75,750

Govt Scholarship of amount Rs.8,31,380 was also arranged.

Support extended to local schools

In various categories, help is extended to school children to build the right atmosphere for

learning – from food to infrastructure.

Title: ACT (Aim, Commit, get Trained ) to Achieve

Objectives of the Practice

The objective of any Higher Education Institution is to provide platform for overall development of

the students .They should excel not only in academics but also in extracurricular and co- curricular

activities .Therefore our institution took the initiative to practice ACT. Objectives of the practice are

1.To enable the students achieve in their academics

2.To train the students develop their individual skills through various clubs.

3.To motivate them and prepare them to participate in National, International conferences and

Seminars.

The Context

The idea of ACT(A- Aim,C- Commit, T- get Trained) to achieve was framed to enable the students from

any background to excel in whatever they do .The main problems we identified were

The students found difficulty in adapting to the new syllabus.

They lacked financial assistance needed to achieve their goals

Poor communication skills.

Hesitation to take part in the events inside and outside the institution.

The Practice

The students are new to the syllabus and therefore to make them comfortable with the subjects a

Bridge Course is conducted. The classes are handled for a period of 7 days to make the students familiar

with the course. The students are introduced to the Mathematics and Computer Science concepts they are

to learn in their course. This helps in building confidence and as a result they are self motivated in

attending competitions.

Financial Assistance

Students who are in need of financial assistance are identified and helped. Vignesh.R of II

M.Com who enjoyed free education during his UG and Krishna kumar.N of II B.Com enjoying free

education are also provided financial assistance to prove their talents in Yoga. They were supported with

to and fro flight tickets to Bangkok to take part in the International Yoga Competition.

Pioneer College of Arts and Science AQAR 2017-2018

95

all the students to get involved in the discussion and there by preparing them for the interviews.
