Since its formation 15 years ago, EXAUDI has expanded the boundaries of repertoire for vocal ensemble and exploredcompelling combinations of contemporary and early repertoire. Holy Week was a time for profound reflection and sacred ritual at the court of Louis XIV. Le Concert Spirituel, in its30th anniversary year, evokes the intense atmosphere of musical worship in the era of the Sun King with a programmebuilt around François Couperin’s three Leçons de Ténèbres, written in 1714 for the Abbaye Royale de Longchampnear Paris, and Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s Tenebrae Responses. The concert also offers a rare chance to hear partof the Requiem setting by Louis Chein, a chaplain and chorister at the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, and an instrumentalversion of Lochon’s Marian motet Tuere nos mortales.
