twoGULF STREAM SCHOOL
Together We Are One, the theme
for this past school year, will remain
with us, I hope, forever. As a school,
we need to protect our past, honor
our founders, realize our goals, and
set our sights toward the future.
Continued success depends on
working together, supporting others’
efforts, and maintaining our accom-
plishments. Much like a family, we
can be more effective if together, we respect and embrace
our school’s Mission while developing academic vigor and
character and requiring participation, all Gulf Stream School
values.
At a time when disruption and insulting negative commen-
tary seem to be the norm, Gulf Stream School will continue
to develop moral courage, integrity, kindness, empathy, re-
sponsibility, courtesy, and respect for different backgrounds,
talents, and interests. I will not allow us to fall prey to--nor
allow our community to be involved in--behavior which does
not reflect our collective civility, generosity, and respect.
At this year’s graduation, Liam Hart of the Class of 2016
told those in attendance, “Our Little School by the Sea has
given us confidence and an education that we will use far
beyond this barrier island. We will always feel comfortable
being ourselves.”
Wyatt Warren, Class of 2012, was the event’s guest
speaker. “Gulf Stream,” he said, “was more than just a place
to learn. It was friends; it was family. I was surrounded by
people I trusted and I learned more than I could imagine.
My experience at Gulf Stream shaped me into the person I
am today. I want you to reflect on the skills you have learned
and ask yourself, ‘How will I use them going forward?’” Wyatt
also offered some constructive advice: “Put your phone away
while you’re studying, while at family dinner, when you’re with
friends…and floss your teeth. Everyone likes good, flossed
teeth!”
As a community of learners, we are also a community of
leaders. I remain grateful for the support of parents, teach-
ers, trustees, alumni, and many others in our community for
providing opportunities for each of us to grow, learn, and
succeed.
The Class of 2016 and I started our journey together at
Gulf Stream School eleven years ago. We will never lose sight
of our good fortune, challenging opportunities, and reward-
ing experiences.
Finally, allow me to express my heartfelt thanks to every-
one who supported the 2015–2016 Blue and White Fund, the
Together We Are One Auction, and many other endeavors
which will enhance our school. Your contributions will enable
us to continue to pursue academic excellence, advances in
curriculum, professional development for faculty, and mainte-
nance of our campus.
Sincerely and with gratitude,
Joseph J. Zaluski

fourGULF STREAM SCHOOL
As yet another year has passed
since my last letter, I am continually
amazed at the speed in which that
happens. At the Auxiliary Luncheon,
I commented on how it seems like
yesterday that I was a Pre-K parent
marveling at the Eighth Grade moms
and their confidence. In a flash, I am
staring down my first high school
graduation.
Once again, our Auxiliary has surpassed all benchmarks
in expectations of friend and fundraisers! Likewise, the GSS
families have exceeded goals set for the Blue and White
Fund. On behalf of our Board of Trustees, thank you for your
endless support and dedication to the School. Additionally,
it has been another successful year in which our faculty and
staff have nurtured and educated our students. On a daily
basis, their dedication is one to admire and appreciate. Thank
you, all!
Likewise, the Board of Trustees has worked diligently to
monitor the endowment safeguarding for continual growth
throughout a volatile market. Additionally, we focused on
professional development, meeting with the faculty to assure
that we are always on the cutting edge of education.
The faculty and staff know they have the ability to explore
new ways of education, with the decision sometimes to stay
with traditional means. Meeting after meeting, we spend time
assuring that the course of the School is in the direction for
continued success.
Again, I marvel at our Board and its love for and
dedication to the School. I am grateful for all that I have
learned and it has been such an honor and privilege to be
its President. In my mind, there is no place like Gulf Stream
School and it is the parents, students, friends, faculty, and staff,
past and present, who make it the exceptional place it is. On
behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank you to everyone for all
that you do.

GIfTS Of CASH*the School will gratefully accept checks made payable to
Gulf Stream School or charges to a visa, Mastercard, or
American express card. Donors are entitled to an income
tax deduction for the year the gift is made.
GIfTS Of SECuRITIES*the School gratefully accepts readily marketable,
publicly traded securities and in some cases, unregistered
securities. Donors who give appreciated securities benefit
in two ways. first, they pay no capital gains tax on the
amount of the increase in value and secondly, their income
tax deduction is equal to the average price of the security
on the day the gift is made.
* Many companies offer matching gift programs for gifts
made by employees (or the employees’ spouses) to non-
profit organizations. These programs are a great way
to increase your contribution to the School. Inquire of
your employer whether your company offers a matching
program, and if it does, ask them to give you the proper
forms. You will receive credit for the original gift and
the matching gift. Both you and the company will be
acknowledged in the Annual Report.
GIfTS Of REAl ESTATEthe School may accept gifts of real estate (homes, lots,
commercial, or industrial property). the tax deduction
equals the fair market value of the property at the time of
the donation. Additionally, the donor avoids the payment
of capital gains tax.
bEquESTS AND TRuSTSplanned Giving is an excellent way to ensure a bright
future for the School. Join the Heritage Society by
including Gulf Stream in your estate plans. those who

for the premiums you pay each year. A gift of life insurance
qualifies the donor for the Heritage Society.
Prospective donors are encouraged to discuss their
charitable giving plans with their legal, financial, or tax

fourteenGULF STREAM SCHOOL
The fall of 2015 marked the beginning of Gulf
Stream School’s second annual Blue and White Fund
which replaced the Annual Fund of years past. Dedicated
volunteers hosted receptions, made personal calls, and
promoted the Blue and White Fund to new parents and old.
The results from Year Two were excellent!
• The overall dollar amount raised reached record levels.
• Parent participation reached a record high of 89%.
• Four grades achieved 100% participation and every
grade was above 85%.
• Faculty, Trustees, and the Blue and White Fund
Committee reached 100% participation.
• Alumni gifts increased by almost 5%.
We are very lucky to be a part of a community like Gulf
Stream School. Participation in the Blue and White Fund
continues to increase and demonstrates the affection we
all have for our school. We are very thankful to all who
participated in and volunteered for the 2015-2016 Blue and
White Fund. These gifts benefit everyone at Gulf Stream.
They will have a lasting impact on the students of today and
will provide for those who will attend in the future.
Other than tuition, the Blue and White Fund is the
largest source of income for the School and it impacts
every aspect of it. Our Annual Fund efforts immediately
help us to focus upon continuing education for faculty and
a broadening of available financial aid and scholarships, as
well as the day-to-day operations of the School. We look
forward to your support of our 2016-2017 Blue and White
Fund, which kicks off in the Fall to help ensure that the
tradition of our school endures.
Warmest regards,
J. D. & Maggie Dickenson

AUXILIARY ANNUAL REPORT
/// / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /
The 2015-2016 school year was off to a great start
with its theme of “Together We Are One”. Room mothers
busily set up the new Shutterfly sites to manage classroom
activities and class coffees and the Auxiliary Board greeted
new families at the Welcome Breakfast in August. From
then through Graduation, all chairs were hard at work,
creating events to be remembered for years. We organized
the Opening Day Coffee, Parents’ Nights, the New Family
Dinner, Photo Days, Book Fair, Founders’ Day, Grandparents’
and Special Friends’ Day, three Hot Lunches, Field Day,
the Auction, the Auxiliary Spring Luncheon, the Teacher
Appreciation Luncheon, and Graduation. There were also
eight Auxiliary meetings and three Uniform Exchanges. The
Book Store enjoyed a complete makeover, including a newly
created Lost and Found. A visit from the Mammovan was a
success. DVDs from the Winter and Spring Concerts were
available in record time.
I could not write this letter without offering warm praise
to the “Together We Are One” Auction Chairs who began
work on it during the previous May to make it a phenomenal
success. The goal of earmarking the proceeds for a new
playground was enormous, but the work was executed
with enthusiasm. It included selecting an auction venue
and party theme, brainstorming with the Art Department
to create a vision, taking photographs, interviewing
students, orchestrating a Bingo Night, and calling parents
to inform them of the opportunities available to help build
the playground. Keeping with our theme, the Gulf Stream
Community provided all the items for the live and silent
auctions, proving that quality over quantity works. Thank
you to all who participated by rolling up their sleeves to give
of their time and resources.
The Auxiliary is more than events and fundraising. It
is the School’s primary organization bringing individuals
together with the common goal of making Gulf Stream
School a great place for students, parents, faculty,
administration, and staff. I was proud to be part of another
wonderful year at our Little School by the Sea.
In conclusion, I must express my admiration for the
five ladies who served on the Board for the 2014-2015 and
2015-2016 school years. They seamlessly handled their
responsibilities while chairing events and acting as room
mothers. It was an absolute pleasure working together and
I look forward to the exciting things for the coming school
year from our new Auxiliary President and Board.

*The income would support an award that would be given at the discretion of the Head of School, when merited, to an outstanding teacher who demonstrates dedication, personal character, love of children as well as subject, is a superior role model, and makes extra-curricular contributions to the School.
A school’s endowment is its hidden strength. It ensures that the school will be sustained well into the future. In present terms, it helps minimize tuition increases that might otherwise be required as educational costs rise. The National Association of Independent Schools has developed guidelines for ensuring sound schools not only in terms of academics, athletics, and character development, but also with regard to the fiscal underpinnings so essential in the support of the finest educational programs across the nation.
Gulf Stream School has a healthy endowment thanks to the generosity of so many members of the Gulf Stream Family. Contributions to existing endowments are accepted regularly and added to the principal of the fund in accordance with the donors’ wishes. Naming opportunities are still available for those interested in establishing an endowed fund to honor or memorialize a student, faculty member, or family member. For more information on how to establish an endowed fund for Gulf Stream School, please contact the Development Office at (561) 276-5225.
“A strong endowment … preserves our past … protects our future … provides for our faculty … allows
greater access for all children to our educational programs … and forever strengthens Gulf Stream
School’s ability to prepare young people for successful and meaningful lives.”
