We are honored that 2020-21 has been a year of many accolades for the Institution. The Institution is

recognized for its commitment for great teaching and learning, to produce work-ready graduates,

innovators and entrepreneurs, together with leading edge is Research. We have also have continued to

expand our International outreach in both Education and Research. Through the strategic alliances with

International Universities, the standard of education at Vel Tech are being raised on par with the best in

the world. The strength of our Research is also through collaborative engagement with Industry.

It has been a great source of pride to see our students being recognized for their outstanding

achievements. Since the inception of the Institution it is my vision to harbinger growth of India through

Academy Driven Excellence. Our success is determined by the quality of our graduates and we are

Message from the Vice Chancellor’s desk

The founder Chancellor & President Col. Prof. Vel. Dr. R. Rangarajan has unfurled the institution into a

highly successful and covered deemed University in the county in a span of two decades from a very

modesty beginning in 1997.

This Institution maintains active links with numerous will recognized Industries, R&D and Professional

establishments, International Universities for In-plant Training, Internship, Semester Abroad, and Skill

Development Programmes to instill in the young students. Institution imparts technical education at

Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral level courses in core and interdisciplinary branches of

Engineering. Institution is equipped with the state-of-the art laboratories and classrooms to quench the

knowledge appetite of the student fraternity.

The highly talented faculty, innovative curriculum with a perfect balance between theory and practice,

highly encouraging and motivating management, serene and homely atmosphere and friendly attitude of

the staff has been providing a congenial atmosphere for the young student community to fully utilize their

inherent talents, incubate innovation in their thinking with freedom and come out as a highly

entrepreneuring and promising professional

Vision: To create, translate and disseminate frontiers of knowledge embedded with creativity and

innovation for a positive transformation of emerging society.

Mission: To nurture excellence in teaching, learning, creativity and research; translate knowledge into

practice; foster multidisciplinary research across science, medicine, engineering, technology and

humanities; incubate entrepreneurship; instil integrity and honour; inculcate scholarly leadership towards

global competence and growth beyond self in a serene, inclusive and free academic environment.

Vel Tech, as a temple of learning, has grown steadily over the years by the uncompromising vision,

leadership and guidance of our founders. Their vision is to harbinger growth of the country through

academy driven excellence and leadership. Their long dedicated, tireless and passionate journey towards

excellence in building a better India has gone through milestones of stupendous achievements.

Mechanical Engineering have been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) under tier-I

category. Our Institution has been ranked in band 801-1000 in the World by Times Higher Education

impact rankings. Vel Tech has also been ranked 93rd

position in the academic year 2020-21 and

consistently placed in Top 100 institutions in the past Four years in National Institutional Ranking

Framework (NIRF) ranking of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). QS I·GAUGE

awarded, the Institution with a Diamond University Rating through rigorous and independent data

collection and analysis against performance metrics as set out in the QS I·GAUGE methodology.

Vel Tech is proud to have a national level facility in high speed bearing test, which is supported

by GTRE, DRDO and based on the expertise developed and facility created. It attracted the consultancy

worth of Rs. 60 lacs from GE Aviation. for of the consistent quality in the publications, Vel Tech H index

in Scopus reached 100. One of our Professors from the Department of Mathematics ranked number .1 in

the world by SciVal - Elsevier for his quality publications.

The institution continued to enjoy immense confidence from the corporate world as substantiated

by the remarkable placement Department. The major recruiters like CTS, Accenture, Wipro, Capgemini,

Mindtree, DXC, Amazon, Zoho, Juspay, Musigma, Odessa and many other top IT, ITES and core

companies keep visiting our campus frequently for placement purposes.

Entrepreneurship helps the economy of a country to grow and creates new jobs. Government

policies usually have a substantial impact on the number of entrepreneurs in a country. Vel Tech

Technology Business Incubator, an initiative supported by Department of Science & Technology (DST)

, Govt of India and Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr.Sagunthala R & D Institute of Science and Technology, is

functioning inside the campus since 2010. Till date Vel Tech TBI has about 200 incubatees registered and

has provided seed support to the tune of Rs.10 Cr to more than 25 entrepreneurs. Vel Tech TBI was

recognised as one of the five centre of excellence under NIDHI Centre of excellence scheme by

Department of Science and technology (DST). On 13th

March 2019, Honourable Vice President of

India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated NIDHI Centre of Excellence, in Manufacturing. The

Vice President was accompanied by Shri. Banwarilal Purohit, Honorable Governor of Tamilnadu and Shri

H.K. Mittal, Secretary, National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board, DST.

Vel Tech TBI also recognised as one of NIDHI Prayas centre, through which it is supporting 13

innovators with the grant of upto Rs.10 lacs each to develop their innovative ideas into products.The

6. ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT

6.1. TBI

Vel Tech has created an ecosystem for innovations including Incubation centre and other initiatives for creation and transfer of

knowledge.

Vel Tech Technology Business Incubator is an initiative supported by Department of Science &Technology, India and is functioning inside the

campus since the year 2010. The whole initiative supports the early stage startups by providing incubation space, mentoring, networking &

financial loan (Convertible debt) up to Rs.50.00 Lakhs. The Vision of the TBI is to be a world class incubator and accelerator enabling creation of

world class products and services. The mission is to enable new job creation, innovations that scale with technology and a thriving

entrepreneurship ecosystem working across various areas of opportunity including Digital technology (ICT), Mechanical, e-waste, Bio-tech, edu-

tech, agri-tech, environmental tech, 3D Printing, E-Commerce etc.

Vel Tech TBI has created the state of art facilities such as e-waste recycling pilot plant, 3D printing laboratory, manufacturing facility with

advanced CNC machines & NDT technology for product development & inspection, Bio incubator to support bio technology innovations,

NVIDIA supported AI, ML, DL & digital services lab to support IT innovations. Vel Tech TBI is recognized as centre of Excellence under NIDHI

Scheme to expand the facility to global level. Innovations belongs to the thrust areas are Digital Services and IOT, Analytics, AI/ML/DL, AR/VR,

Mobile Apps, E-commerce, 3D printing, E-Waste / Plastic waste management, Manufacturing, Embedded systems and VLSI, Agriculture,

Robotics / UAV, Health Care and Bio – Incubation.

Its great pleasure to share my experience in Vel Tech Deemed University. My 4 year in Vel Tech Deemed

University has been the best of my life. I made good friends here. I have the best professors in my

department. They have always motivated me and supported me in every step, which always made me

enthusiastic.

Presently I am going to National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan to do higher study. I have got

admission to do masters in Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics with full Scholarship. I will be

13. EVENTS & ACTIVITIES

13.1. Convocation

The 10th Annual Convocation of Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science

and Technology was held on 23rd

October 2020. About 1432 graduands received their UG, PG and

Doctoral degrees from the Chief Guest Chief Guest: Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy, Secretary, Department of

Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO. Gold medals were distributed to the rank holders from each

department based on their Academic excellence. Dr. S. Salivahanan Vice Chancellor of the Institution

welcomed all the potential graduands and parents. During his address, he presented the details of the

Institution’s growth, accolades, rankings, accreditations, placement records, and many more. He also

mentioned that the Institution was committed to global excellence, thereby developing students to

contribute to the Nation.

The Chief Guest Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy, gave away the Gold medals to the rank holders and

distributed the Degree Certificates to the graduating students. In his convocation address, he emphasized

the need for strong and self-sufficient nation based on the technical advancement.

Vel Tech honoured eminent personalities from different walks of life with Honoris Causa

degrees. In this Tenth Convocation Ceremony, Honoris Causa Degree for Doctor of Science was awarded

to Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’for his outstanding contributions in the field of Literary Work on

Patriotic Endeavours by the Founder President Col Prof. Vel. Dr. R. Rangarajan.
