DIPLOMA / CERTIFICATE COURSES

Development Programmes

The development programmes of (the) GRAJOS COLLEGE OF MASS

COMMUNICATION , Lagos are in line with those similar in growing Polytechnics. The

planned

operational activities include:

Organization of Part-time and short term courses on regular as well as on ad-hoc

request bases e.g. extra moral classes for SS III and JAMB candidate.

GCE”A” LEVELS AND INTERIM JOINT MATRICULATION BOARD

7

The institution runs GCE “ A “ levels of Cambridge University and Interim Joint

Matriculation Board Examination IJMB “ A” levels of Ahmadu Bello University,

Zaria Qualified candidates with five credits Mathematics and English Language

inclusive for Commercial students plus Physics Chemistry or Biology for

science students shall be admitted into one year programme leading to the

above awards.

Advances level (“A” level) examinations are generally the minimum entry

requirement for students wishing to enroll by direct entry at a university in the

United Kingdom and all other countries including Nigeria. The “O” level is

required for concessionary entry or entrance examination into our universities.

The examinations are usually written in May/June and November/December.

There is no prescribed restriction to entry for “A” level examination except that

you cannot register for the same subject at “0” & “A” level at the same time.

Who should Consider “A” Levels?

Students wishing to transfer or study abroad: Many prospective students are now

considering the option of studying abroad. The Cambridge “O” & “ A” Level

provide solid prerequisite for entry to an overseas university.

Students wishing to improve their matriculation status: The “A” level programme

is ideally suited to students who already matriculated with “O” level and

university entrance examinations. In many cases however, the results are

insufficient for entry into certain faculties at the university. The “A” level

programme affords students the opportunity to improve their point score so as

to become eligible for acceptance into their most desired fields of study.

Students wishing to complete their education with international standards:

Cambridge University: “A” levels and IJMB “A” level have become yardsticks

for measurement for pre-tertiary academic standards internationally. Thus, our

students are now provided the opportunity of completing their education in

Nigeria and still be in line with international standards.

Students requiring a bridging year to prepare for university: Many students find

that they are inadequately equipped to cope with university

studies when they leave high school. This is, perhaps highlighted by the high

first year failure rates that are experienced in many Nigerian and foreign

universities. Moreover, many high brilliant students do complete their High

School at ages sill considered “tender” by certain universities with minimum

age requirement for entry. For these and other reasons, the “A” level 8

programme provides an answer. It allows students to mature and develop the

interactive, social and communication skills essential for academic success in

the more complex university environment.

Students uncertain of their future career: Many students are uncertain of the

career to which they are best suited. By completing a year of “A” levels,

students are in a far better position to make long-term decisions and assess

their future goals and ambitions. Meanwhile, they can also utilize the “ A” level

certificate to enhance job opportunities abroad and within the country. It is the

minimum requirement for entry into the middle level cadre in the public and

private sectors of the economy
