to mandolin users. Made of finest tortoise celluloid, firmly attached to a cup-shaped rubber holder on each side. Robert Glier Violins

As early as I 632, or nearly three hundred years ago. there was born in Klingenthal, Saxony, Johannes Gottlieb Glier. Interested in musical instruments, he ^ jlffl at an early age found his way to Cremona, then the H P^-home of the great Amati. After thoroughly master- Ij ^ • ^ ^ ^ j ^ ^ |ftrt ing the art of making lutes and violins he returned to W »||l ., t * / i ^ l * A * * ^ ^ ^ his home in Saxony and there was soon famous be- // 1 |1 ,0DlP l ^ u l l l F *)» » \ •'• cause of the fine toned lutes and violins that he pro- i ' ^ ^ - vifllltl'TTlilHPF • duced. He taught his son, and so the art was passed ^ V* .W »vVWl l l i a u i I on from son to son, down to the present direct de- 11 W MudoMOHJUVURrK ^ scendants, Robert Glier and Robert Glier, Jr., who are \\ ^ \^mti^r \A now building master violins in their picturesque shop \\ ^ L-^s==t., jTrHUld urfftlfe in the hills of Kentucky near to Cincinnati. Wilhelm ^ ^nClimaTl. W / ^ " ^ "^ "^ August Glier, who lived more than a hundred years ago in, Saxony, achieved a reputation that extended all over the musical world. Thomas Jefferson, President of-the United States, an ardent violin lover and Facsimile Henry Farny Label, himself a violinist of no mean distinction, heard of these wonderful Glier violins, and gave Wilhelm August Glier an order to produce a fine instrument for him. This violin is now in a Baltimore collection. Ysaye, the world-famed violinist, paid the present Robert Glier the great compliment of purchasing one of his violins during his last tour of America, and of his own accord sent us a strong letter praising the violin to the fullest extent. The violins made by the Gliers during the last hundred years are the treasured possessions.of many soloist and orchestra leaders in all-parts of the world.
