Truth Verse
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore,ifanyoneisinChrist,thenewcreationhascome:theoldhasgone,thenewishere!
Truth Unpacked
Over the next month we intend to explore how through ‘the washing of the water of God’s word,’ we can live lives that are alive and pleasing to God. My prayer is that you will have a fresh awakening to the power of God’s Spirit, encountering Jesus and the abundant life He gives.
Although‘Iwassinfulatbirth,sinfulfromthetimemymotherconceivedme’thegoodnewsisthatwedon’thavetostayinthatsin-filledcondition.Christ‘becamesinforus’securingforus‘peacethroughhisblood,shedonthecross’-whatIliketocallour‘red-whitener’!
WhenwereceivethegraceofGodbyfaith,weencounteradivineexchange.Old-lifegarmentsarereplacedwithGod’snew-lifegarmentsoftheheart.Whatanincomparabletrade-off!Isaiahspeaksofthese:firstly,thegarmentofsalvation-meaning‘rescued’-rescuedfromtheoldnature!Yes,thankstothebloodofJesuswearecoveredandcleansedfromallsin.Thisisunderstoodbestinthestoryofthewhippingboy:
Awhippingboy,inthe17thand18thcenturies,wasayoungboywhowasassignedtoayoungprince.Hewaspunishedwhentheprincemisbehavedorfellbehindinhisschooling.These‘substitutes’werecreatedbecausetheideaofthedivinerightofkings,whichstatedthatkingswereappointedbyGod,andimpliedthatnoonebutthekingwasworthyofpunishingtheking’sson.SoitiswiththeKingofkings,Jesus.Hebecamesinforus,whoknewnosinthatwemightbetherighteousnessofGodinHim.Secondly,thegarmentofrighteousness.ThankstothemercyandlovingkindnessofGod,notonlyisouroldpastandsinfulnatureforgiven,but‘ourrobesaremadewhiteinthebloodoftheLamb(Jesus)’.Justasifwehadneversinned.Wow!WhatafriendwehaveinJesus...our‘red-whitener’.
Truth Story
Today’slaundrymarketaboundswithmanufacturer’sclaims,howtheirparticularbrandofpowders,liquids,gelsandtabletscancleanclothesanderadicatestains.Whenmixedwithwater,evenatlowtemperatures,theycanevenremovethemoststubbornground-indirtandgrime–itvanishesinaflash!Notsolongagothiswasknowninadvertsasa‘bluewhitener’.
(HymnLyrics)“Thereisafountainfilledwithblood,drawnfromEmmanuel’sveins;andsinnersplungedbeneaththatflood,losealltheirguiltystains.Losealltheirguiltystains,losealltheirguiltystains;andsinnersplungedbeneaththatfloodlosealltheirguiltystains.”
William Cowper 1731-1800
Prayer
ThinkaboutthegreatpriceJesushaspaidtoforgiveus,inorderthatwemayhaveeternallife.Considerthetorturehesufferedonthecrossforusandexpressinwordsyourpersonalthanks.
Day 01 The Call to New Life A Brand New Start - Forgiven
Truth Verse
Song of Solomon 2:11, 12 See!Thewinterispast;therainsareoverandgone.Flowersappearontheearth;the(spring)seasonofsinginghascome,thecooingofdovesisheardinourland.
Truth Unpacked
ThecalltonewlifeinChristislikespringtimeofthesoul–notbyworksofrighteousnesswhichwehavedonebyaccordingtoHismercyhesavedus,bythewashingofregenerationandrenewaloftheHolySpirit.
Godhasappointedtimesandseasonsforthejourneyofourlives!TheHolySpirit’sseasontoawakenthesoulisthemiracleofconversion...theseasonofsinginghascome,thedoveoftheSpirithas,inamoment,causedrebirthandrenewalofyourheart.Youroldlifeisdead.Yournewlife,whichisyourreallife—eventhoughinvisibletospectators—iswithChristinGod.Heisyourlife.
Prayer
Conversionisadeepwork-aheartwork.Itgoesthroughouttheman,throughoutthemind,throughoutthemembers,throughouttheentirelife.Conversionisnorepairingoftheoldbuilding;butittakesalldownanderectsanewstructure.ThesincereChristianisquiteanewfabric,fromthefoundationtothetopstoneallnew”.

Ourversetodayisawonderfulpictureofthechangethathappensasthewinterseasonendsfollowedbythecontrasting‘newlife’seasonofspringtime.Springflowersarebeautifulandfragrant.Changingseasonshaveaprofoundeffectonplantandanimallife.Springisthetimeofrenewalofplantlife.
Natureawakensinspring,andspringflowersblossom.Bulbscomeintobloom;plantsandtreessproutnewleaves.Thenumberofdaylighthoursincreasesduringspring,inmarkedcontrasttothecolddarkwinterthathaspast.
Prayer
Lord,IthankyouforredeemingmysoulfrometernaljudgmentandgrantingmenewlifeinChrist,mySaviour.Lord,pleasesendafreshseasonofspiritualconversionsamongstmyfriends,workcolleaguesandfamily.IaskthisinJesusname.Amen.

Truth Verse
Ecclesiastes 4:12 & Acts 2:38 Apersonstandingalonecanbeattackedanddefeated,buttwocanstandback-to-backandconquer.Threeareevenbetter,foratriple-braidedcordisnoteasilybroken.ThenPetersaidtothem,Repent,andbebaptisedeveryoneofyouinthenameofJesusChristfortheremissionofsins,andyoushallreceivethegiftoftheHolyGhost.
Truth Unpacked
The three fold response by the apostle Peter to those experiencing Christ’s conviction and forgiveness is in found in Acts 2:38:
1) Repent and
2) Be BaptisedinJesusnamefortheremissionofsinsandyoushallhave
3) The Gift of the Holy Spirit,forthepromiseistoyouandtoyourchildrentoo,asmanyastheLordourGodshallcall.Paultheapostleconfirmsthesesamethreecomponentsin‘thefirstprinciplesoftheoraclesofGod.’Thissametriple-braidedcordresponsetothegospelisexperiencedbybelieversthroughoutthecitiesofSamaria,CaesareaandEphesus(Actschapters8,10&19)
Weshallunpacktheknowledgeandunderstandingofthesefoundationstonesthroughoutthiscourse.
Prayer
MeditateonPeter’sresponsetothequestion‘Whatshallwedo?’andaskyourself,‘HaveIlaidholdofeternallifebyestablishingthisunshakeable,solidandgoodfoundation’?NowprayActs2:38insertingyourownname.

Repentance is the Greek word metanoia, ‘after/behind one’s mind’. It is a compound word of the preposition ‘meta’ (after, with), and the verb ‘noeo’ (to perceive, to think, the result of perceiving or observing). It combines the two meanings of time and change, which may be denoted by ‘after’ and ‘different’, so that the whole compound means: ‘to think differently after’.

Paul has a degree in theology and is fellowshipping at Willowfield Parish Church, an outward focused church in East Belfast. He works in the finance industry and lives with his wife Caroline and three sons in Belfast. For further details of how to host this course in your church contact Paul at [email protected]

“Awellconstructedfoundationalcoursewhichsetsouttotransformthemindandlifestyleofthosewhoareyounginthefaithandthenotsoyoung!TheresourceisbothinformativeandchallenginganddemandsapersonalresponseandshouldequipthebelievertodiscoverthefullnessofGodandtheirunderstandingofwhotheyareandtheirpurposeandplaceintheChurch.
