ODE TO CONCOrDEh e FilmT

Ode to Concorde is a celebration of one of the most iconic and inspiring technological achievements of the 20th Century.

In keeping with Concorde’s beautiful lines and artistry, Ode to Concorde is

a poetic documentary, comprised entirely of all new and specially created

imagery, that seeks to make the viewer see this plane through fresh eyes.

Accompanying these visuals are the evocative insights from test pilots, aircrew,

designers, artists and celebrity passengers, whose admiration and pride for this

aircraft is palpable and infectious.

Two years in the making, using bespoke CG modelling and recreation sequences,

the filmmakers have managed to get Concorde flying again… in a manner of

speaking.

Chris Purcell is a multi award-winning filmmaker with over 25 years experience creating innovative factual content and commercials for major broadcasters and blue chip clients.

He has a particular interest in science technology and aviation and this is reflected in his portfolio. Aviation highlights include a series for Discovery Channel called Great British Planes, as well as numerous other documentaries on the V-Force Vulcan and Victor bombers, the Dambusters Operation as well as films for National Geographic on air freight and air travel. In addition to filmmaking, one of his favourite roles was as head of the specialist aviation channel Discovery Wings. Like many others who live in west London, he misses the daily punctuation of Concorde soaring noisily over head. From the day he first saw Concorde -

the British prototype 002’s maiden flight on 9th April 1969, Mike Bannister knew he wanted to be a Concorde pilot. He got his wish in 1977 when he became its youngest pilot. In his Concorde career, Captain Bannister has accumulated around 9,600 Concorde flight hours of which almost 7000 were supersonic.

In 1995 Bannister became Chief Pilot of British Airways Concorde fleet - a post he held right up to Concorde’s retirement in 2003. He has many precious Concorde memories of his years with the aircraft, like the one from 2002 when he flew Concorde in close formation with the Red Arrows 300m above a crowd of 1 million people outside Buckingham Palace. Seeing so many waving and cheering people had a lasting impression on him.

Adrian Meredith’s imagination was fired as a 9 year old when he saw a

large glossy white model ofConcorde on a Olympia Expo trip with his dad. This was his first glimpse of what his future had instore for him because he went on to become a photographer working for British Airways.

A 32 year career in aviation photography followed that covered the entire service life of Concorde. Inthat period, he photographed the plane from every possible angle, on the ground ana in the air, individually and in formation with other Concordes or the Red Arrows. And from low over BuckinghamPalace, to high in the stratosphere, skimming the edge of space. Many historic images accompaniedby just as many redolent memories.

Tamalie Newbery became Director of Brooklands Museum in 2017. For the previous ten years she had worked with a range of heritage sites and museums as a consultant and latterly running the Association of Independent Museums which has 1200 members across the UK.

The world famous Museum is on the site of the world’s first purpose-built motor racing circuit and one of the most prolific aircraft factories in Europe to this day. Today the Museum inspires future generations of engineers and designers, working with young people of all ages to engage them with Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM), allowing them to pursue their interest in science with other like-minded people outside of school through incredible volunteering programmes.

Paul Darter is a Producer with over 25 years of experience in the UK film and television industry.

His early career specialised in arts, architecture and history documentaries for the BBC and Channel Four. Working with Discovery Networks Europe from 2000 onwards he began a long and successful track record of working with Christopher Purcell making films on aviation and technology rated subjects. These included projects featuring the likes of Sir Richard Branson, Sir David Frost and Apollo astronaut Buzz Aldrin. His work filming around the world including ongoing work for South Africa Tourism and he’s one of a small number of people to have flown with Chris in a B52 on a (mock) bombing run over Texas.
