Two world wars were fought and millions died and billions

suffered. Many analysts say that if at all there is another world war it would be over water. It was US President John F. Kennedy who said “Anyone who can solve the problems of water will be worthy of two Nobel prizes - one for peace and one for science.”. Water is not available in plenty as we think. There is only 3% freshwater available in the surface of the earth and the remaining 97% is saline water. In the 3% freshwater 68.7% are locked in Icecaps and glaciers, 30.1% in ground water and only 0.30 in the fresh surface water which includes lakes, swamps and rivers. Some information about water is given hereunder.

• World's population tripled in the 20th century, but the use of renewable water resources has grown six-fold• 88.4 crore people in the world do not have access to clean and safe water• In developing countries, as much as 80% of illnesses are linked to poor water and sanitation conditions.• Halfoftheworld'shospitalbedsarefilledwithpeoplesuffering from a water-related disease• Nearly 1 out of every 5 deaths under the age of 5 worldwide is due to a water-related disease

There are Indian states in loggerheads for water. The latest example is the Cauvery water issue between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. People were up in arms and destroyed lot of public and private properties, including torching more than 200 vehicles which had the Tamil Nadu registration. The ASSOCHAM estimates that the loss in Karnataka is between Rs. 22000 to 25000 crore. Let us pray that the God given resources may be used diligently and long pending water disputes in India may be settled amicably.

Dear Elders, Brothers, Sisters and Children

Greetings to you in the loving name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

There is a prayer of Paul for the people of God recorded towards the end of the third chapter of Ephesians (3:14-21). In that prayer Paul prays that the people may be strengthened in their inner being. If there is an inner being there ought to be an outer being, one that is perceptible to those we interact with.

We live life at two levels namely the outer level and the inner level. Our greeting people with a warm smile, our preaching on the pulpit, our ministry activities, our leading a worship or a prayer offered before a group of people are all outer level actions that people can see and listen to. These are in no way less important or bad or something we can do without.

However there is a life that we lead at an inner level that people cannot immediately see. It comes out when a person is provoked or is faced with

difficult situations. The thoughts that go through our mind or things we do when no one is watching, our attitudes towards people or situations are all reflective of our inner level life. When the gap between these two levels, namely the visible outer level and the invisible inner level is minimal in the life of a person and there is near total convergence between these two levels we call that person a person of integrity. He or she is not a dual personality but one integral whole. This can be achieved by working at the inner being and not the other way around. Hence Paul prays that we need to be strengthened in the inner being.

The outcome of this as Paul puts it in verse 17 is a life surrendered to the total lordship of Christ which is the meaning of the phrase, ‘….Christ may dwell in your hearts….”Let us allow Christ to rule

our lives by allowing him to strengthen our inner being.

Our Ministry in JharkhandI am in Jharkhand while I am writing this. God has blessed our ministry in this state of Jharkhand especially among the Malto and Santhali people. While we are still consolidating and strengthening the fruit of our labour among them we also realise we need to take the good news to people groups in the vicinity that we are yet to engage with to a considerable extent. We are gradually expanding our ministry to these people groups. In all these efforts one major shortage we come across is that of manpower. Do pray therefore that the Lord of the harvest may send forth more labourers into the field. I would like to challenge the youth to come forward to offer the most precious thing namely the prime of their youth for the service of God.

I thank God for the ministry of NSM, our sister organisation that works in close cooperation with us in the area of social development. Along with our Vice President, Missionary in charge of our ministry in North India and other members of NSM’s governing board I was privileged to visit some of their projects in two districts of Jharkhand and also to participate in their board meeting.

EC and GB MeetingsOur Executive Committee and General Body and Execut ive commit tee meetings were held on the 3rd and 4th of September. Our audited accounts statement was approved by the General Body. This has been published in this issue. Pray for the prompt implementation of decisions made at our EC and GB.

North and North East India Mobilization Missionaries’ GatheringThe mobilization staff working in North India and North East India met on the 14th and 15th of September at Kolkotta to pray and plan for their ministry. They would be focussing on establishing and strengthening prayer groups in their respective areas

Karnataka Annual State ConferenceThe Karnataka State Annual Conference will be held in Bangaluru from the10th to the 12th of this month .

May God’s abiding presence continue to guide and protect each and every one of you

We thank you for your prayers for the Extraordinary General Body meeting

and retreat held on 3rd September in YMCA, Chennai. We had a good participation from various parts of our country to witness His faithfulness. The half day retreat from morning to midday helped the participants to know each other and the purpose of their calling. The President Mr. John Samuel

welcomed and introduced all the General Body members. The new incoming members

were given a warm welcome. The President exhorted the participants from Joshua 1:9, “Be Strong

and Courageous” and challenged the participants saying though they were a smal group they had tremendous potential to bring about change in the world. The General Secretary, Rev. Sudarshan Thomas welcomed and introduced the guest speaker Mr. Ravi Koilpillai, IIT- Madras Professor who shared the Word of God. He shared about the roles of ‘Watchman and the Messengers’ from Bible through the life example of David in a contextual study with technology developments and the social consequences, its impacts as well as pertaining evils. Recalling the 1980s, how the Radio broadcasting adventured taking the Gospel to the nook and corner of the nation and made a vibrant impact on the society he challenged us to capitalize on the impact of communication explosion which will soon lead to a vast majority of people being online all the time.It was an eye opener for all the participants to foresee the trends of our nation and to serve this nation as a responsible member of the General Body.Following this, Mr. Patrick Joshua led the members in a time of prayer interceding for God’s blessings on our nation and concluded with a prayer of dedication.During the afternoon business hour God enabled the committee to approve the 2015-16 year annual budget and to take other significant decisions for the good governance of the society and growth of the mission. We continue to covet your payers for wisdom to implement all the decisions.

The Lord enabled us to conduct North India Mobilization staff conference from 13th to 15th of September at Kolkata. It was

the glorious occasion for all 40 mobilization staff who participated from all over North India and North Eastern India. It was a meaningful time for having deeper fellowship with God and to renew the fellowship between one another. The missionaries sat state wise for planning and set a new strategy to conduct periodical programs to achieve the target. Lord has powerfully used our General Secretary, Treasurer, Finance Secretary and Rt. Rev. Isaac Mangalaraj (Bishop E.C.I.) to carry forward God’s mission towards new targets in the days to come. - Rev. Syrus Samuel, Missionary - North India Mobilization
