www.handicareintl.org
Mission: Empowering disadvantaged children and youth with special needs, with inclusive education, rehabilitation and training to integrate them with the main stream community.
HCI is a volunteer driven organization.By keeping the administrative costs to less than 3%, HCI has consistently achieved a
disbursement rate in excess of 97% to charitable activities.
Handi-Care Intl. (HCI) has focused on the “Education, Rehabilitation, Vocational Training and Empowerment” of children and youth with disabilities from rural India who are economically disadvantaged. The goal is to integrate them into the society and place them in jobs. Currently, there are 500 children and youth under sponsorship. In addition, 900 children, below age 6, with disabilities are under our Early Intervention program, that is co-funded by Grand Challenges Canada. Since 2015, HCI is supporting children affected by Cerebral Palsy in Canada, by raising funds for a very specialized surgery – SDR- that is not covered by Govt. health plans.

HCI initiates and supports rehab projects and implements them through
partner organizations, - mainly Amar Seva Sangam, Tirunelveli Dist.,
Tamil Nadu - which delivers direct services. HCI requires that its partner
organizations adhere to the highest standards of commitment,
accountability and effectiveness. HCI strives to make a lasting difference
in the lives of people with special needs, their families and their
communities.
Q Obtained a matching grant of $600,000 from Grand Challenges
Canada to run the Early Intervention Project.
Q We are Global leaders in helping to establish an effective program for
“Early Intervention” of childhood disabilities in collaboration with the
Grand Challenges Canada (2013- current). The methodology we have
established will soon be implemented in more and more districts of Tamil
Nadu and eventually cover the entire state so all children with
disabilities will be covered.
Q Built a High school at ASSA (2012), with classrooms and a lab to
accommodate the inclusive education of 700 students.
Q Established Volunteer / Clinical Placements for OT/PT /SLP
graduates from Canada: 30-40 Students per year from
11 universities across Canada are placed at ASSA every year, to
enhance their skills and provide valuable rehab services to the rural
community in India.
Q Professional OT/PT/SLP volunteers are placed at ASSA since 2014,
who contribute immensely in training the staff and supervising students.
Q Built the “Centre For Special Education” which provides a full range
of rehab and Spl. Ed. programs for 100 children annually, with
challenges. 80 children have successfully completed and moved on to
Vocational training.
Q Re-built Thonithurai in 2005 - a village in South India that was
demolished by the 2004 Tsunami. Constructed 17 homes and resettled
the families.
Q 180 disabled youth under HCI's sponsorship have completed studies
and are placed in gainful employment, since we implemented this
program in 2004.
Q 90,000 meals are served under our sponsorship every year.
