60

Liberal Arts in Media

61

Key Learning from the Workshop on Liberal Arts: At the end of the course, students have developed the ability to enjoy, interact and performed arts and aesthetics

with great deal of enthusiasm. Students have developed the ability and creativity to transfer sense of design and

innovation. Those students who paint learn to think with an open mind, to look at situations creatively. They have

also learned to express themselves more deeply through their art. They developed critical-thinking skills and must

make decisions about what works and what doesn’t on their own.

Conclusion: It is a historical event for us as such an initiative has been taken for the first time by any University at national

level. The learning from these courses will help students to cultivate the necessity skills to be responsible citizens

as well as professionals in a diverse and increasingly interdependent global world. At the end of the course,

students have developed the ability to enjoy, interact with and perform arts and aesthetics; and have developed

the ability and creativity to transfer sense of design and innovation in their areas of science and technology.

A Report on

Women Entrepreneurship Development Programme

Introduction:

Women Entrepreneurship Development Programme (WEDP) under the Department of Science &

Technology scheme aims to train the S&T graduates and diploma holders in the entrepreneurship

essentials - conceive, plan, initiate, launch and maintain economic activity or run a successful enterprise.

WEDP selects 25-30 potential women entrepreneurs and train them through a structured 4 weeks

training programme. The online training pedagogy will follow a mix of theoretical sessions, practical’s and

case-based discussion.

Majority of the women face problems while dealing with the management of business and its other aspects

like managing clients, communications, funding opportunities, credit applications, marketing of the

business (products/services) etc. Access to better advisory and training would help women that are

behind the small-scale family-owned businesses and others who are willing to start their own business.

This free training programme will be conducted with the help of well-trained experts. In this programme,

women trainees will identify right business idea for them, steps to follow, and develop necessary

knowledge and skills to evaluate and run a business.

Women entrepreneurs in Ethiopia are disadvantaged from the start. They have less access to the finance,

networks, and education which help their male counterparts advance. They face regular discrimination

and harassment from society–sometimes even from their own families and communities. The challenges

a woman entrepreneur in Ethiopia faces in growing her business are overwhelming.

Only one-third of the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the world are run by

women. Women-business owners in developing countries face significant challenges to run their

businesses, particularly in accessing finance.

Programme objectives:

o WEDP aims at providing budding women entrepreneurs with skills, adding support through

growth-oriented business incubator and business accelerator.

o Understand the process of women empowerment through entrepreneurship development.

o Create an awareness of the need and importance of entrepreneurship.

o Develop vision, strategy & structure for entrepreneurship development.

63

P a g e 2 | 39

o Evaluate new venture opportunity.

o Make them aware about promotional financial & regulating scheme for women.

o Develop skills in mobilizing and organizing women in recognition of women’s potential as agents

for social change.

o Prepare feasible & viable project.

o Develop necessary skills of enterprise creation and small business management.
