India Waarom India en waarom nu?

De Indiase middenklasse groeit met 30 miljoen mensen per jaar en zal in 2020 uit 200

miljoen mensen bestaan, volgens Ernst&Young. Daarnaast zijn ruim 200.000 Indiërs

miljonair (+1 miljoen US dollar).

Premier Modi, die in 2014 werd gekozen, voert met zijn kabinet in snel tempo enorme

(economische) hervormingen door. De verwachting is dat Modi de Indiase economie

steeds verder zal liberaliseren de komende jaren.

De belangrijkste voertaal is Engels en het gemiddelde opleidingsniveau is hoog. Jaarlijks

pompt het academisch onderwijssysteem honderdduizenden ingenieurs de arbeidsmarkt

op.

• India biedt enorme kansen voor Nederlandse bedrijven:

- Sourcing: Agrarische producten, textiel, grondstoffen, industriële producten (Make

in India)

- Outsourcing: Software, maar ook backoffice dienstverlening

- Export: Consumentengoederen en B2B, owner meer bouw en infrastructuur (smart

cities), water en waste management, renewable energy

Een paar opmerkelijke feiten

• India heeft het grootste windmolenpark ter wereld.

• India is de grootste melkproducent ter wereld.

• India heeft 53 steden met minimaal 1 miljoen inwoners.

• De gemiddelde leeftijd in India is 25 jaar (in Nederland 39).

• In 5 jaar tijd, in 2020, zal India het hoogste inwoneraantal ter wereld hebben.

De allergrootste order uit de luchtvaartgeschiedenis in aantallen vliegtuigen komt uit

India: Indigo Airlines bestelde in 2011, 5 jaar na oprichting, 180 Airbus A320 toestellen.

De steden

Mumbai:

Mumbai is India’s grootste stad en tevens het financiële hart van het land. Mumbai is een van

de meest dichtbevolkte steden ter wereld met 30.000 inwoners per km2. In totaal wonen er

naar schatting 18 miljoen mensen.

Een paar feiten op een rij:

• 13 miljoen inwoners in een stad met een oppervlak van slechts 3x Amsterdam met een

gemiddelde leeftijd van 29 jaar.

• Het duurste huis ter wereld staat in Mumbai, maar de stad heeft ook een van de grootste

sloppenwijken ter wereld.

• 33% van de inkomstenbelasting in heel India wordt betaald in Mumbai.

• Mumbai herbergt de grootste filmindustrie ter wereld. Bollywood groeit jaarlijks met

16%.

• In Mumbai worden elke dag 200.000 ‘home cooked’ maaltijden bezorgd aan

kantoormedewerkers. De dabbawalla’s vormen ’s werelds grootste, informele logistieke

voedselnetwerk. De operatie functioneert volledig zelfstandig, zonder papierwerk en

behoort tot de efficiëntste distributienetwerken ter wereld.

Pune:

Bangalore mag dan bekend staan als het Silicon Valley van India, Pune maakt langzamerhand

ook aanspraak op die titel. Met dank aan zijn vooraanstaande onderwijs- en

onderzoekinstituten barst Pune van de ingenieurs en is de stad de afgelopen jaren uitgegroeid

tot een bruisende productielocatie en innovatiehub voor bedrijven als Volkswagen, DSM en

Microsoft. Bedrijven kiezen ook graag voor Pune als vestigingslocatie omdat de stad een

prettig leefklimaat heeft en niet zo duur is als Bangalore of Mumbai.

Een paar feiten:

• Aan de University of Pune studeren maar liefst 700.000 mensen. Daarmee is UoP een van

de grootste universiteiten ter wereld.

• In Pune studeren meer buitenlandse studenten dan in de rest van India samen (ruim

24.000)

• De economie van Pune groeit jaarlijks met 10%, vergeleken met 6,5% van India als

geheel.

• Pune is India’s eerste WiFi-city. Dankzij een samenwerking met de Amerikaanse

chipmaker Intel Corporation, is er sinds 2007 overal in het stadscentrum razendsnel WiFi

beschikbaar

Verslag

Inleiding

Wethouder Verkaik is van 14 tot 18 november op verzoek van de gedeputeerde mee geweest

naar India. De totale delegatie bestond uit 22 personen van zowel overheden als bedrijven. In

nauwe samenwerking met het Consulaat en de NFIA (Netherlands Foreign Investment

Agency, onderdeel van Ministerie Economische Zaken) is een programma van een week

opgesteld. Voor de individuele bedrijven die mee gingen zijn individuele matchmakings

georganiseerd. Velsen heeft samen met Jaap

Bond, de consul-generaal, Amsterdam In

Business en de NFIA een aantal specifieke

bedrijven bezocht. Er zijn daarnaast twee

gezamenlijke investment seminars georganiseerd,

één in Mumbai en één in Pune. In totaal zijn daar

ongeveer 200 Indiase bedrijven aanwezig geweest

die zijn geïnformeerd over en geïnteresseerd voor

investeren in en zakendoen met Nederland,

Noord-Holland en de MRA. Er is daar ook

uitvoerig individueel met de aanwezige Indiase

bedrijven gesproken.

Het was teleurstellend dat de afspraak met Tata op het laatste moment werd afgezegd. Er zou

worden gesproken met de executive director van de board Tata Steel. Door de ontwikkelingen

in de top van het bedrijf -Ratan Tata die de topman Mistry uit zijn functie heeft gezet- waren

er urgente en last minute boardmeetings die deze afspraak overrulde. Verheugend was wel dat

minister Kamp, op terug van Nieuw-Zeeland naar Nederland, op zaterdag een ingelast bezoek

heeft gebracht aan Tata. De positie en het belang dat Nederland en de regio hechten aan Tata

IJmuiden is daarin naar voren gebracht.

Een verdere toelichting op relevante thema’s en bezochte bedrijven vindt u hieronder.

Maandag

In plaats van het geplande gesprek met Tata Steel is met Jaap Bond en de Consul een bezoek

gebracht aan Tata Consulting Services. Met 1200

medewerkers in Amsterdam ook een belangrijke

Indiase werkgever in de MRA. TCS ontwikkelt zich

steeds meer als leverancier van (ICT) middelen in

een wereld die steeds meer technologie gedreven is.

Elke branche/sector wordt steeds meer technologie

gedreven. TCS wil daar een rol in spelen en ziet

verder gaande groeikansen. We zien dit ook terug in

onze regio en in Techport. Technologie geeft ons

bijvoorbeeld steeds meer middelen om processen goed in de gaten te houden met sensors, en

deze zo verdergaand te optimaliseren, zowel qua onderhoud als efficiency. TCS heeft ook

recent een product ontwikkeld voor start ups. Een digitaal netwerk voor Co-Innovatie (COIN

TNI). Interessant om te onderzoeken of en hoe dit in Techport een rol kan spelen.

Maandagmiddag bezoek aan Endemol

India. Bijzonder om te zien dat

Nederlandse tv concepten zo uitgerold

kunnen worden. Onbekend bij de meeste

Indiërs is dat concepten als The Voice en

Masterchef van oorsprong Nederlandse

concepten zijn.

Dinsdag

Bezoek met Amsterdam in Business en NFIA aan 2 bedrijven. Als eerste de Parekh group.

Een heel oud en breed maritiem logistiek familiebedrijf. Actief in diverse branches,

waaronder offshore. Ze onderzoeken naar mogelijkheden in Europa voor verdere expansie

van hun activiteiten. Het andere bedrijf was LibraTechcon Ltd. Een industrieel

engineeringsbedrijf onder meer in olie/gas, energie, water, dat verdere expansie in

Europa/Nederland onderzoekt.

Deze bezoeken bevestigden het beeld dat Indiase bedrijven voorzichtig zoeken, bij voorkeur

met lokale partners samenwerkingsverbanden willen aangaan en van daaruit verder willen

groeien en zicht eventueel willen vestigen. Met Amsterdam in Business en NFIA wordt

verder gekeken hoe we hen kunnen faciliteren in mogelijke contacten en informatie.

In de avond vond het Trade- investment seminar plaats.

Woensdag

Reisochtend naar Pune. Pune ligt op ongeveer 150 km van Bombay/Mumbai. Pune heeft +/- 5

miljoen inwoners, is een industrieel centrum en een belangrijk educatief en wetenschappelijk

centrum voor India. Een stad die fors in ontwikkeling en “booming” is. Het is dan ook een

belangrijke vestigingsplaats voor westerse multinationals.

In de middag bezoek aan WorldEmp. WorldEmp is een bedrijf van de Velsense ondernemer

Frank Korf (klik hier voor meer informatie). Ongeveer 20 ict-ers werken hier voor Velsense

en Nederlandse bedrijven. Dit in een omgeving die eerder doet denken aan Silicon Valley dan

aan India.

Donderdag

Bezoek met Jaap Bond en Consul Generaal aan Kirloskar. Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL)

is een van de grootste pompenfabrikanten ter wereld. KBL is opgericht in 1888 en werkt

wereldwijd. Ze leveren pompen voor diverse industriële toepassingen; industrie, olie/gas,

water. Het bedrijf heeft een vestiging in Velsen-

Noord van waaruit R&D plaatsvindt en de

Europese markt wordt bediend. In Hengelo heeft

het bedrijf recent een fabriek overgenomen.

Het gesprek met de eigenaar/directeur de heer

Kirloskar was zeer inspirerend. Het bedrijf is veel

met duurzaamheid bezig en de wijze waarop

pompen daaraan een bijdrage kunnen leveren. Niet

alleen door hun producten energiezuiniger te

maken maar ook voor duurzame toepassingen. Interessant aanknopingspunten zitten er op het

vlak van restwarmte en blue energy. Interessant om nader te onderzoeken of en hoe Kirloskar

vanuit Velsen beter kan worden aangehaakt bij de relevante projecten die op dit vlak in de

regio spelen. In afstemming met Provincie, Consulaat en NFIA kijken we hoe er verder

invulling kan worden gegeven aan dit contact.

Donderdagmiddag/avond: Trade- investment seminar

Vrijdag

Individueel bezoek aan hoofdkantoor Suzlon. Suzlon Energy is een Indiaas energiebedrijf en

fabrikant van windturbines. Het hoofdkantoor staat in Pune. Naast het ontwikkelen en

produceren van windturbines hebben ze in India ook zelf windmolenparken in beheer. In

Hengelo hebben zij door overname een bedrijf die R&D voor bladen doet. Een bedrijf dat

zeer actief met duurzaamheid bezig is, dit alles vanuit de “one earth” filosofie. Het

hoofdkantoor is ook één van de meeste duurzame van India, een gebouwencomplex dat uniek

is qua duurzaamheid in India en misschien wel de wereld.. Zelfs bij de bakstenen

wandelpaden is nagedacht over watergebruik/doorlating etc. (klik hier voor meer informatie).

We hebben een uitgebreide toelichting gekregen op de ontwikkeling in de energiemarkt in

India. Met 1,3 miljard inwoners en een enorme groeiende behoefte en ambitie op duurzame

energie zeer interessant. Een complexe uitdaging gezien het feit dat de openbare infrastructuur

beroerd is en de wet/regelgeving voor het bouwen op private gronden complex. Uitgebreid

gesproken over de ontwikkelingen in de

offshore wind daar. Vooralsnog zijn die

plannen beperkt. Maar de kans is groot dat die

ontwikkeling zich op termijn voordoet omdat

het op land zo complex is. Als de kostprijs

voor wind verder daalt wordt wind op zee voor

India interessant. Het exporteren van onze

kennis, zowel qua bouw/installatie als havens

naar India is dan interessant. Ook het

aanhaken van Suzlon Hengelo op onze ambitie

is interessant.

Vrijdagmiddag/avond/nacht terug naar Mumbai, afsluitende bijeenkomst met hele delegatie

bij Consul Generaal. Vrijdagnacht teruggevlogen

Algehele indruk en conclusies

India is een fascinerend land. Aan de ene kant lopen ze voorop en zijn ze ons jaren voor, aan

de andere kant lopen ze 100 jaar achter. Het verkeer is dramatisch, alles moet over een

beperkte capaciteit aan straten. Extreme reistijden zijn het gevolg, van Noord naar Zuid

Mumbai duurt ongeveer 2½ uur.

De Indiase bedrijven zijn zeer open, gastvrij en enthousiast over ons bezoek. Gezien de

statuur van personen die ons ontvingen bleek dat ook. Omdat iedereen Engels spreekt is het

contact heel makkelijk en direct. Ze zijn enthousiast, hebben humor en gesprekken gaan heel

natuurlijk.

Er zit veel ondernemerschap in India. Het zijn veelal familiebedrijven met een lange historie

met veel ondernemerszin en beschikbaar kapitaal. Ze zijn zeer geïnteresseerd in zaken doen

en/of zich vestigen in Europa maar hebben over het algemeen nog geen concreet plan. Ze

willen graag eerst een relatie aangaan. Dat is voor Indiase bedrijven belangrijk. Men zoekt en

doet het overwogen, kleine stapjes, dat kenmerkt India. Na Engeland is Nederland voor de

meeste een logische eerste plek om te onderzoeken. Duitsland en Frankrijk ervaren ze als

lastig omdat het Engels over het algemeen slechter wordt gesproken en de houding van de

overheid wat protectionistischer is.

De aanwezigheid van een flink cluster aan beeldbepalende Indiase bedrijven in de MRA (Tata

IJmuiden, TCS, Kirloskar) spreekt veel bedrijven aan. Dit biedt kansen voor verdere uitbouw.

De omvang van dit cluster in de regio verrast vele Indiase bedrijven positief. Dat is een basis

om verder uit te bouwen.

De interactie met de groep, het consulaat en de NFIA was zeer plezierig. Het was intensief en

dat betekende ook dat we veel onderling hebben kunnen delen. Over zaken doen in India, over

de ambities van Velsen, over de ontwikkelingen bij Tata. We waren zichtbaar en het werd

zeer gewaardeerd dat Velsen mee was. Het blijkt in deze contacten ook vaak weer dat velen

Velsen niet kennen en onbekend maakt onbemind.

Veel economische kansen dus, voor ons daar en voor hen hier. Verder bouwen aan de

wederzijdse relatie en concreet maken van de genoemde concrete kansen hierboven. Dit zal in

nauwe samenhang met provincie/MRA/Consultaat en NFIA moeten plaatsvinden. Velsen zal

zich daarvoor inspannen.

The Kirloskar Group is an Indian conglomerate headquartered in Pune, Maharashtra, India.

Products

The Kirloskar group of companies was one of the earliest industrial groups in the engineering

industry in India. The group produces Centrifugal Pumps, engines, compressors, screw &

centrifugal chillers, lathes and electrical equipments like electric motors, transformers and

generators. While Laxmanrao Kirloskar, established the group in 1888, his son Shantanurao

Laxmanrao Kirloskar played a role in the leadership of the company. The company under

Shantanurao Laxmanrao Kirloskar achieved one of the highest growth rates in Indian history,

with 32,401% growth of assets from 1950–1991.

In 1988, Rajiv Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India released a commemorative stamp

marking the Kirloskar Group's 100th anniversary.[8]

In 1974, in cooperation with Deutz-Fahr of Germany, Kirloskar began manufacturing

tractors.[9] They have since ceased tractor production.

The Kirloskar Group also set up India's second oldest township Kirloskarwadi in

Maharashtra, which is now a 100-year-old township in 2010.

Kirloskar Brothers Limited (which includes Kirloskar Brothers Ltd, Aban Construction

Company, SPP Pumps (UK), Kirloskar Ebara Pumps Ltd, Braybar pumps Ltd, (South

Africa)and The Kolhapur Steels Ltd is India’s largest pump manufacturer.[3][4] Kirloskar

Brother produces Centrifugal pumps from 0.1 kW to 26MW with single pumps pumping

liquids in excess of 35,000Liters/sec thus producing some of the largest pumps by size

and horsepower. Kirloskar Brothers Limited was established in 1888.

Kirloskar Oil Engines Limited

KOEL manufactures air-cooled and liquid-cooled diesel engines and generating sets

ranging from a power output of 5 kVA to 625 kVA and 1800 kVA to 6300 kVA. They

also offer engines operating on alternative fuels such as biodiesel, natural gas, biogas and

straight vegetable oil (SVO). Their generating sets are branded as Kirloskar Green

Gensets. KOEL also offers customised power solutions including both standby and prime

power requirements. Jakson & company is one of the largest manufacturer & supplier of

Kirloskar Green silent DG sets.

Kirloskar Pneumatic Company Limited

KPCL has four strategic business units, Air Compressor Division (ACD), Air

Conditioning and Refrigeration division (ACR), Process Gas Systems division (PGS) and

Transmission division (TRM). ACD offers Air and Gas Compressors from 30 to 10,000

CFM. ACR offers Open-Type Refrigeration Compressors (50 to 500 TR), Vapor

Absorption Chillers (90 to 500 TR) and Refrigeration Systems up to 800 TR. KPCL offers

CNG packages with Suction Pressure (0.5 to 65 bar) and Gas Flow (300 to 3,500 SCMH).

American Petroleum Institute (API) Gas Compression packages range from 50 CFM to

6000 CFM. The wind turbine gearbox range is up to 2.5 MW and industrial gearbox is up

to 16 MW.

Kirloskar Ferrous Industries Limited

Produces pig iron and grey iron castings for the automotive industry

Kirloskar Chillers Private Limited

Produces centrifugal chillers from 250 TR to 2400 TR and air-cooled and water-cooled

screw chillers from 40 TR to 550 TR for air conditioning and process cooling

applications. It also offers products for hot water generation including chillers with

desuperheaters & heat pumps. Established in 1995, Kirloskar Chillers is the largest chiller

manufacturer in India,[citation needed] and the first to have its products certified under

the AHRI 550/590 certification program.[citation needed] The factory at Saswad, near

Pune, also has the first AHRI-certified chiller test facility in India.[citation needed] It is

also the only Indian company to manufacture centrifugal & screw chillers under one roof.

Mysore Kirloskar ( MK )

produced lathes including CNC types

Kirloskar Electric Company ( KEC )

made electrical equipment like transformers, generators and motors, etc. It is not part of

the Kirloskar Group anymore.

Kirloskar Institute of Advanced Management Studies (KIAMS)

was conceived in 1991 as a training institute and a knowledge hub where Kirloskar Group

managers taught and learned management. In 1995, the training institute was opened to

managers all over the country.

Achievements

Kirloskar Brothers Ltd created the world’s largest irrigation project which was commissioned

in March 2007 ( the Sardar Sarovar Dam project for the Gujarat Government. This was done

for Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam, http://www.ssnnl.com/) and on 14 March 2008

commissioned the world’s second largest water supply system with the world’s highest head

in Andhra Pradesh. Kirloskar Brothers is associated with India's nuclear program and has

made canned motor pumps for pumping heavy water which are deployed at Indian Nuclear

Power Plants. Kirloskar Brothers Limited is also a supplier of FM UL certified pumps along

with its subsidiary SPP Pumps (UK). It was the first Indian company to get FM certification

for its valves. Kirloskar Brothers has a presence is numerous countries including Egypt.

Kirloskar Brothers is also one of the first pump companies to have an all women operated and

managed manufacturing plant at Coimbatore.which is the second largest metropolitan city of

state Tamil Nadu in India. The company was one of the country's top ten wealth creators in

2007.
