The Chairman welcomed the members of the Senate. Thereafter, the agenda itemswere taken up for discussion and the following decisions were taken:-

ITEM 13.1

CONFIRMATION OF THE MINUTES OF 12thMEETING OF THE INSTITUTE SENATEHELD ON FEBRUARY 19, 2000

The 12th meeting of the Senate of Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology,

Jalandhar was held on February 19, 2008 in the Committee Room of the Institute. The

minutes of the meeting were circulated vide NO.NITJ/MS/Senate1X1I/0466-75 dated

20.04.2000. Comments on item no. 12.45 "Composition of PG Council for PG

Programme" have been received from senate member (s) and the same is being put up

before the Hon'ble members as a separate item in the agenda. However, the minutes

were also placed in the Fourteenth meeting of Board of Governors held on April 26,

2008 vide Table Item No.14.19. The Board has approved all the items except Item

No.12.S (Fellowship/Stipend of Ph.D/MlTech full time candidates) and it was decided to

implement the enhancement of fellowship/stipend of Ph D/M Tech (Full Time)candidates only after getting clarification from the MHRD, New Delhi.

The members confirmed the minutes of the 12thmeeting of the Senate of Dr B R

Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar except item No.12.45.

degree of Master of Technology (M Tech) Full time and (M.Sc) Full time which are

ITEM 13.7

WITHDRAWL OF 6TH SEMESTER REGISTRATION AND PRE-REGISTRATION OF 5THSEMESTER

The Hon'ble members of the Senate ratified the decision taken by the Chairman, Senate

in respect of Mr Katti Vishal Mukund, Roll No.OS106034, a student of 3rd year, 6th

Semester, Instrumentation & Control Engineering. He was allowed to register for his

back log courses of Sthsemester with 2006 batch regular students w.eJ July 2008 and

for Numerical Methods course of 3rd semester with 2007 batch students. Further, he

was allowed to undergo his practical training from January-June-2009 and for his studies

of 7th semester and 8th semester alongwith 2006 batch students.

ITEM 13.8

REQUIREMENT OF MINIMUM CREDITS TO BE EARNED FOR REGISTRATION INTHE HIGHER SEMESTERS

The Hon'ble members of the Senate deliberated on the issue and decided that a studentis required to earn a minimum of 30 credits for registration in the 3rd semester, aminimum of 60 credits for registration in 5th semester, and minimum 90 credits. forregistration in 7th semester with a condition that S/he has to pass the degree within six

SCHEME OF COURSE CODES FOR UNDER GRADUATE PROGRAMMES­TEACHING SCHEMES

The Hon'ble members of the Senate approved the course codes for new teaching

scheme for Under-graduate programmeswhich are available at Annexure~ pa~d-; 4.. •. i_j~~: ~~.~

ITEM 13.10

TEACHING SCHEME OF B TECH (3RD TO 8TH SEMESTER)

The Hon'ble members of the Senate deliberated on the issue and approved the scheme

of 3rd to 8th semester for all the Under Graduate programmes and M Tech (Part Time)scheme of Computer Science and Engineering Department, Senate members

authorized the Hon'ble Chairman of the Senate to approve the fine tuned scheme andcourse contents of 3rd & 4th semester, if necessary.

ITEM 13.11

QUALITY OF B TECH PROJECT

The Hon'ble members of the Senate approved the proposal of the Dean, AcademicProgrammeswhich is as under and authorized the Chairman, Senate to accord approvalto broad guidelines to be framed for writing the project report:-

i) At the end of the semester, there will be project presentation and viva voceexamination in the presence of at least two external area experts (from twodifferent areas) be called by each department. The external experts may bepaid TAiDA as per the institute norms and honorarium @ RS.100/- perstudent to external examiner, @ RS.50/- per student to internalexaminer/supervisor.

FACULTY REQUIRMENT/DISTRIBUTION AMONG VARIOUS DEPARTMENTSICENTRES

The Hon'ble members of the Senate deliberated on the issue and approved the faculty

requirementldistribution among various departments/centres which is available at

Annexure-III Page-15 and reservation at the Lecturer level shall be applicable as per theGovernment of India instructions (For SC/ST and eBC) and reservation for physically

challenged at all levels i.e Lecturer, Assistant Professor and Professor as per

Change of name of the department of Mathematics to Department of Mathematics and

Computer applications was not approved. However, Senate agreed in principle, to startMCA programme in the department of Mathematics for which the department willprepare a proposal for consideration to the senate.

The proposal to start MBA programme by the department of Humanities & Management

was approved in principle. However, scheme will be put up for the senate considerationagain.

REMEDIAL COACHING FOR WEAK STUDENTS

The Hon'ble members of the Senate approved the proposal of remedial coaching for

weak students on the pattern of liT, Delhi and also recommended that the remuneration

to the teachers be also paid as per the liT norms.

PUNISHMENT FOR TEMPERING WITH THE MARKED ANSWER SHEET-UNFAIRMEANS CASE

.~ The Hon'ble members of the Senate approved the punishment for tempering with

marked answer sheet while showing the answer sheets to the students which is asunder:-

a) Any student found guilty of tempering with the marked answer sheets for the

first time when the end semester sheets are shown to the students which is a

measure for enhancing the transparency in the system, his/her allexamination of that semester will be considered null and void and if s/he

repeats the same mistake again then s/he will be expelled from the institute

for six months alongwith cancellation of all the examinations of that semester.

An M.Tech student may be allowed todiscontinue the programme and permittedto take up a job subject to the conditionthat he/she has successfully completed allthe core and elective courses, seminarwork, if any. In that case, he/she can takeup the dissertation work later on.However, such a student will have tocomplete the dissertation within threeyears from the date of admission to theprogramme.
