NEED OF THE HOUR

The ROCHEM Answer

PT(HP)-RO!

High Pressure-RO Systems – 75, 90, 120 &

225 Bar – first installation under execution

A few advantages of Rochem PT(HP)-RO systems are as follows:

1. Reduction in costs for the thermal systems

Rochem PT(HP)-RO system can be applied on existing RO rejects

thereby further reducing the final volume of effluent to be treated for disposal.

2. Reduction in steam consumption

As HP-RO gives a more concentrated reject at further reduced volumes, the

steam consumption is reduced.

3. Lower operating/ treatment cost of HP-RO systems

Lesser power requirement & no steam consumption. Treatment costs can be

drastically reduced due to absence of need for operating fuel and lower power

costs.

An Overview

4. Compact and modular construction of the membrane system

The unique design offers versatile features like smaller foot print, ease in

handling, replicability and isolation in case of fault.

5. No thermal stress

Handling higher volumes of RO reject effluents by HP-RO systems is easier

and with no frequent mechanical & process failures.

What’s Next?

• HP-RO installations √

• Progressive cost saving √

• Satisfied X (there’s always room for betterment)

Energy Utilization??

• As a pressure driven process, the High Pressure pump’s energy

consumption is the main component of Operating cost in an RO plant.

• After Permeate extraction from feed water, the reject leaves the RO

plant at High Pressure (over 50 bar).

• An Energy Recovery Device utilizes this Reject pressure energy and

transfers it to the feed line to pressurize the feed partially and thus

reduces the overall energy consumption by substantial amounts (from

30-70% based on Recovery).

Energy Recovery Device (ERD)!!

Energy Recovery Device

Eliminates the need for HP Pump, its capex, maintenance

and Energy costs

Reduces the overall cost of additional permeate recovery

Energy Recovery Device

• Rochem has been working with ERDs since early 2003. Conducted

first trials on Distillery waste water at Kanoria Chemicals at

Ankleshwar in 2004-2005.

• The migration of the technology to Waste water applications has been

initiated and currently 2 industrial waste water clients in Textile are

operating with ERDs to reduce energy need.

• ERDs in Distillery sector are under execution for orders at M/s

SAF Yeast ltd and M/s KSSK in Maharashtra.

• We now propose to bring the same advantages to Jubilant.

ERD…background

Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) has been the biggest beneficiary of

ERD technology.

• Traditionally the Energy required for SWRO used to be 10 kWhr/m3

permeate. By use of ERDs this now stand reduced to below 3

kWhr/m3 permeate, almost a 70% reduction.

• Several SWRO installations including a large 2500 m3/d SWRO

system installed at Syngenta – Goa are running successfully at low

energy consumption. Other large systems include Hetero & PWD Port

Blair.

• Based on this reduction in Energy costs, over the past 2 decades, RO

has overtaken the installed base of Desalination and proved more

competitive to Thermal systems even in markets such as the Oil rich

Gulf (ME) region.

Evaluate, Choose, Negotiate, Negotiate

Expend CAPEX.

INVEST ! BUY ! And live with what you got ?!

• Keep on Investing ?

• Continue to face Technology Obsolescence RISK ?

Is this “ Déjà vu “ all over again?

“Are we going back to Square One?”

Current Scenario …

The Need today of a Industry !

• Investment in Pollution Control systems is significant part

of total investment

• Economic-Industrial-Policy scenario remain uncertain

• Prudent investment in direct productive capex

• World is following the outsourcing Model

WHAT IS THE SOLUTION ?

ROCHEM’s ANSWER !

ROSERVE ! THE BUSINESS CONCEPT OF THE FUTURE

what is ROSERVE ? • SERVICE CONCEPT !

• Customer Buys nothing.

• Customer defines Service need and scope.

• Customer only enters into a Service Agreement.
