TIPE ROUTER & SWITCH

A. Fungsi Router & Switch

Router berfungsi sebagai penghubung antar dua atau lebih jaringan untuk

meneruskan data dari satu jaringan ke jaringan lainnya. Router berbeda

dengan switch. Switch merupakan penghubung beberapa alat untuk membentuk

suatu Local Area Network (LAN). Sebagai ilustrasi perbedaan fungsi dari router dan

switch merupakan suatu jalanan, dan router merupakan penghubung antar jalan.

Masing-masing rumah berada pada jalan yang memiliki alamat dalam suatu urutan

tertentu. Dengan cara yang sama, switch menghubungkan berbagai macam alat, dimana

masing-masing alat memiliki alamat IP sendiri pada sebuah LAN.

Switch pada dasarnya mempunyai fungsi seperti Hub yaitu sebagai pembagi sinyal

dan penguat sinyal pada jaringan komputer akan tetapi switch lebih cerdas dari

pada Hub karena Switch dapat mengenali alamat data yang harus ditransmisikan dan

mampu mengatur lalu lintas data dalam jaringan secara lebih baik dibandingkan

dengan Hub.

B. Tipe-tipe Router

1. Internet Access Router

Router ini digunakan untuk akses internet secara umum oleh ISP di mana mereka

ditempatkan di jaringan ISP (jenis router dikenal sebagai Provider Edge Router).

Router ini juga digunakan untuk menghubungkan ISP untuk ISP lain sehingga

mereka dapat berkomunikasi (ini dikenal sebagai Inter-provider Border Router).

2. Enterprise Router

Kategori Enterprise Router terbagi atas 3, yaitu :

a. Router Access

Router akses termasuk “Small office / home office” (SOHO) yang terletak seperti

kantor cabang, biasanya, dioptimalkan menggunakan biaya yang rendah. Jenis

router ini biasanya disebut router SOHO. Contoh tipe access router :

b. Distribution Router

Distribution router bekerja sesuai dengan namanya yaitu menunjukkan,

mendistribusikan, dan mengumpulkan lalu lintas dari beberapa router dalam

WAN. Seringkali router distribusi dapat digunakan untuk memastikan kualitas

yang ada di seluruh jaringan dan sebagai akibat dari yang mereka butuhkan untuk

memiliki beberapa interface WAN serta sejumlah besar memori untuk dapat

mengendalikan lalu lintas, mengumpulkan informasi dan memastikan kualitas

layanan seluruh WAN. Contoh Distribution Router :

c. Core Router

Router inti pada dasarnya digunakan sebagai 'tulang punggung' seperti yang

dikenal. Mereka harus mampu untuk meneruskan paket ke bagian lain dari

perangkat keras yang terhubung ke pada makna kecepatan tinggi bahwa mereka

perlu dioptimalkan untuk jenis kinerja. Hal ini juga dapat digunakan untuk

menghubungkan router distribusi dalam sebuah organisasi besar. Contoh router :

C. Jenis-jenis Switch

a. Manageable Switch

Switch ini memiliki keunggulan yang lebih dengan memiliki User Interface atau

perangkat lunak yang memungkinkan pengguna untuk melakukan konfigurasi pada

switch. Keunggulan lain jenis switch ini adalah dapat melakukan segmentasi pada

jaringan dengan konsep VLAN yang bermanfaat untuk memberikan kemanan lebih

pada sebuah jaringan, Memudahkan pengguna untuk melakukan pemantauan dan

pemeliharaan network traffic. Contoh tipe switch jenis manageable switch :

b. Unmanaged Switch

Merupakan tipe pilihan termurah dan biasanya digunakan di kantor atau bisnis kecil

dan rumahan. Switch Jaringan Komputer ini melakukan fungsi dasar mengelola lalu

lintas data antara printer atau periferal dengan satu komputer atau lebih. Tipe switch

ini tidak dapat kita kelola layaknya manageable switch yang memiliki fitur

tambahan dalam pengaplikasiannya, seperti fungsi VLAN. Contoh tipe dari jenis
