do not have your keys, wallet and phone with you. However, you are not powerless. There

are some tips & tricks that you can follow to break into your own house. You can contact

the Lockout service in Schiller Park if you have your phone with you. Once the

locksmith arrives, he will solve your problem soon.

How to Break into your own house?

Check for Open Windows & Doors

Check all of the windows to see if they are unlocked. If they are locked, try to unlock them.

If you have sliding windows, you can follow How to open Vertical and Horizontal

Sliding Windows. It will guide you to open locked sliding windows from outside.

Moreover, if your house has more than one door. Check if they are unlocked. The front

door mostly has high-security locks. The back door can have a low-security lock; check if

you can try to unlock it from outside.

Try the Dog Door

If you have a dog door, you can try to enter through it. The space is tiny and if you cannot

enter it, try to reach the lock with your hand. However, if you can’t reach it, try to find

something long to help you reach the lock and unlock it.

Call for Spare Key

It is very common to lose keys, so people give their spare keys to trusted friends or family.

If you have given the spare key to anyone, call them and tell them about your situation.

Hopefully, you can get your spare key from them.

Remove the doorknob

This technique only works for door knob locks. To clarify, they are not high-security locks

and, therefore, can be removed. You will need a screwdriver and a paperclip. You can

borrow these tools from your neighbors. Paperclip can be used to pick some locks. If you

want to know more check out How to Pick a Padlock with a Paperclip? Some

doorknobs have exposed screws, and some have hidden screws. You are in luck if you can

see the screws on your doorknob lock. Unscrew them using the screwdriver. After

removing the screws, the doorknob will become loose, and you can remove it with your

hands. Check out DIY: Remove a Locked Door Knob from the Outside for a more

detailed guide.

Use a Plastic Card

This technique will only work if you have a spring latch or a slanted/diagonal latch. Insert

the plastic card in the gap between the door and the doorframe. Slowly bring it closer to

the latch and push it deep. Use the card to put pressure on the lock and disengage it.

When you feel you have pushed the latch back, push on the door, and it will open. Keep

changing the positions until you get it right. Check out How to pick a Lock with a

Card? if you want to read a detailed guide on this technique

Remove the Door

Every door has hinges, which are the most exposed part of the door. You will require a

nail and a hammer for this step. Again, you can borrow it from a neighbor. The hinge is

present inside the opening. Set the nail at the bottom of the opening under the hinge.

Now, use the hammer to hit the nail to push the hinges out. Repeat this process for all the

hinges. Apply a little pressure to pry off the door. You can attach the door again by

installing the hinges. However, this process will take a lot of time.

In addition, the process gets a little different if you have sliding glass doors. These doors

do not have hinges. These types of doors are installed on a track. Most importantly, if you

can get these doors off the track, you will be able to open them. You can take a crowbar or

a prybar to pry the door off the tracks by raising the door and mulling it outwards. Make

sure to hold the door firmly as it could fall on you and can cause expensive damage or

injure you.

Garage Door

On the other hand, you can also gain access to your house through the garage door. You

will need a wire hanger that you can borrow from your neighbors. If you can’t find the

hanger, you can use any sturdy, long wire. Bend the hanger into a straight line with a hook

on top of it.

Some garage doors have a small gap on top of it, and some have it on the sides. Insert the

road through the gap. There is a manual release latch below the arm of the opener that

opens the garage door. Use the hook to pull the latch with force. Once the latch

disengages, you can slide the garage door up and open it.

Call a Locksmith

If none of those mentioned above techniques works, you can call Rekey lock-in

Schiller Park. They have professional locksmiths that are available 24/7. Locksmiths

have professional tools that they use to unlock doors in no time. Depending on the lock, it

will cost you money, but the locksmith will solve your problem with a guarantee. It will

also save a lot of your time.
