OF THE TENTH GRADE IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2015). Thesis, Teacher

This study is aimed to identify: (1) whether or not teaching English by
using song can improve the students’ English and (2) the students’ attitudes
toward the use of song. This research is carried out using a classroom action
research. It is conducted to the tenth grade students of SMAN 3 in Depok in the
academic year of 2015/2016. The data are collected by using some techniques
including observation, interview, documents, and tests. The qualitative data are
analyzed by assembling the data, coding the data, comparing the data, building
interpretations, reporting the outcomes to know about the students’ attitude. The
quantitative data are analyzed by descriptive statistics to calculate the indicators of
achievement score and the mean scores of pretest and post-test. The research
findings show that: (1) teaching English by song combined TGT method can
improve some aspects of the students’ English and (2) Teaching reading by using
song combined TGT method can improve the classroom situation.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi : (1) apakah mengajar
bahasa Inggris menggunakan lagu dapat meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa
inggris siswa dan (2) bagaimana sikap siswa terhadap penggunaan lagu untuk
meningkatkan bahasa inggris mereka. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian
tindakan kelas. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan terhadap siswa kelas 10 SMA Negeri 3
di Sukoharjo pada tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan
beberapa teknik yaitu observasi, wawancara, pengumpulan dokumen, dan tes.
Data kualitatif dianalisis dengan cara mengumpulkan data, memilah data,
membandingkan, menyusun interpretasi dan mencatat hasil untuk mengetahui
bagaimana sikap siswa. Sedangkan data kuantitatif dianalisis dengan statistik
deskriptif untuk menghitung nilai ketercapaian indikator dan nilai rata-rata pre-tes
dan post-tes. Data kuantitatif di analisis dengan deskripsi statistik yang
menghitung dipencapaian nilai indikator dan nilai rata-rata dari tes awal dan tes
inti. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa: (1) mengajar bahasa inggris dengan lagu
yang digabung dengan metode TGT dapat meningkatkan beberapa aspek dari
bahasa inggris siswa, dan (2) mengajar bahasa inggris dengan lagu yang digabung
dengan metode TGT dapat meningkatkan suasana belajar yang lebih baik.
