PRESIDENT’s JOKOWI MODESTY 

 The festive way of welcoming President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and

public celebration accompanying his inauguration on Oct. ! gave an

impression as though "ndonesia had for the very #rst time elected a

president. The population so $oyfully e%pressed good wishes to the president&

a reception that eluded his redecessors.

One of the main reasons is Jokowi's modesty and pro%imity to his

people. The nation has for a long time longed for such a modest leader. The

country has also craved a populist leader. The people's yearnings have been

satis#ed by the rise of Jokowi.

 Jokowi also maintains a modest style of dress. (eceiving several state

guests& he was clad in long)sleeved batik or white shirt rather than an

e%pensive o*cial suit. +peaking at the people's celebration at the ,ational-onument -onas/ s0uare& he simply wore a white shirt and black trousers.
