    PHASE 1 DETERMINE MINIMUM PC REQUIREMENTS DRBIII Update Program System Requirements

    Before installing the DaimlerChrysler DRBIII Update program, make sure the computer meets the following minimum system requirements as well as the operating system.

    Hardware: Intel 80486, 66 MHz or higher processor 16 MB of RAM (More memory improves performance) 50-MB available hard disk space VGA or higher-resolution monitor 16 x CD-ROM drive Mouse or pointing device Serial communications port (COM) Operating System: Windows 98 - or - Windows 95 Windows NT 4.0 Workstation Windows 2000 Professional

    PHASE 2 PERFORMING THE PC INSTALLATION:

    Typical Windows 98 Installation shown: 1. Exit all running software applications on the personal computer.

    NOTE: As with any software application loading process, users should close any open programs that may interfere with loading. This may include items running in the background and may include some anti-virus programs.

    2. Place the DRB III Remote Update and Flash Reprogramming CD-ROM in the computers CD-ROM drive. NOTE: If the PC has the auto-install feature turned ON, the Setup program will initiate and install the DRBUpdate process, if not continue.

    3. Click the Start button and click Run option.

    4. In the Run dialog box, type D:\setup.exe where D:\ is the CD-ROM drive letter of that personal computer (PC). Click the OK button.

    The InstallShield Wizard starts and will guides the setup process.

    5. Click the OK button to close the InstallShield Wizard.

    PHASE 3 UPDATE DRBIII TOOLMODE SOFTWARE VERSION In this phase there will be references to cables and connections. Please review the appropriate sections from the DRB III Hardware, Operation & Accessories Reference Guide publication number 510325 (CH6050) for details. 1. Exit all running software applications on the personal computer.

    2. Click the Start button, point to Programs, point to DRBIII Update and

    click DRBIII Update.

    The DRBIII Update program opens.

    3. Select the serial communications port (COM).

    4. Select the DRBIII toolmode software release version and the corresponding language, if available.

    5. Make the connection from PC to DRBIII. Using the RS-232 Peripheral

    Communication Cable, CH7068 (DB9 a 9-pin null modem cable), connect one end to the selected computer communication port. Connect the other end to the recessed RS-232 port on the DRBIII scan tool.

    6. Remove any PCMCIA card from the DRBIII scan tool.

    7. Power up the DRBIII. It is important that the power not drop during these types of operations. Use CH7055 power cable with a suitable power supply or a vehicle by connecting CH7000/CH7010 cable. We recommend either having the vehicle running or a battery charger on the vehicle set to 14 volts.

    8. From the DRBIII scan tools Main Menu, select 5. Run Memory Card Program option.

    9. Select 1. Attempt Serial Communications on the No Memory Card Present menu. The screen should now display,

    10. On the computer, click the Update button to download the DRBIII toolmode

    software. NOTE: This process can take from 20 to 45 minutes depending on the nature of the software update. CAUTION: It is important NOT to lose power to the DRB III during this time.

    The purple progress bar indicates data transfer.

    11. When the DRBIII Toolmode software download is complete, click the

    button on the upper right corner of the window to close the software application.

    PHASE 4 UPDATE A PCMCIA MEMORY CARD In this phase there will be references to cables and connections. Please review the appropriate sections from the DRB III Hardware, Operation & Accessories Reference Guide publication number 510325 (CH6050) for details. 1. Exit all running software applications on the personal computer.

    2. Click the Start button, point to Programs, point to DRBIII Update and

    click, DRBIII Update.

    The DRBIII Update program opens.

    3. Select the serial communications port (COM).

    4. Using the lower pick box Make International Super Card 94 97 Select the language version and the type of PCMCIA card. NOTE: A 4-megabyte size PCMCIA card is the minimum/maximum requirement. The original Supercard P/N CH8000 when issued was a 2-Meg card. There are NO updates available for that card/configuration. SRAM cards are usually only used by engineering groups not in field service. The 4MB Flash Cards (not SRAM Card, so change default from pick list) to update are:

    CH8361 SuperCard2 (Yellow w/ Black lettering) CH8425 Sebring Stratus 2-door Coupe (ST22)

    5. Make the connection from PC to DRBIII. Using the RS-232 Peripheral Communication Cable, CH7068 (DB9 type null modem cable), connect one end to the selected computer communication port. Connect the other end to the recessed RS-232 port on the DRBIII scan tool.

    6. Remove any PCMCIA cards attached to the DRBIII scan tool.

    7. Power up the DRBIII. It is important that the power not drop during these types of operations. Use CH7055 power cable with a suitable power supply or a vehicle by connecting CH7000/CH7010 cable. We recommend either having the vehicle running or a battery charger on the vehicle set to 14 volts.

    10. Insert the 4-Meg size PCMCIA card to the DRBIII scan tool.

    11. On the computer, click the Update button to download the appropriate PCMCIA card software.

    Data transfer is indicated by purple progress bar.

    12. When the software download to the PCMCIA card is complete, click the button on the upper right corner of the window to close the software application.
