Ilest venu comme tmoin, pour rendre tmoignage laLumire, afin que tous croient par lui. Cet homme ntaitpas la Lumire, mais il tait l pour rendre tmoignage la Lumire.Le Verbe tait la vraie Lumire, qui claire tout homme envenant dans le monde. Il tait dans le monde, et le mondetait venu par lui lexistence, mais le monde ne la pas

reconnu.Il est venu chez lui, et les siens ne lont pas reu. Mais tous ceux qui lont reu, il a donn de pouvoir devenirenfants de Dieu, eux qui croient en son nom. Ils ne sontpas ns du sang, ni dune volont charnelle, ni dunevolont dhomme: ils sont ns de Dieu.Et le Verbe sest fait chair, il a habit parmi nous, et nousavons vu sa gloire, la gloire quil tient de son Pre commeFils unique, plein de grce et de vrit. He came fortestimony, to testify to the light, so that all might believethrough him. He was not the light, but came to testify tothe light.The true light, which enlightens everyone, was cominginto the world. accept him. But to those who did accept him he gavepower to become children of God, to those who believe inhis name, who were born not by natural generation nor byhuman choice norby a mans decision but of God.And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling amongus, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Fathers onlySon, full of grace and truth. John testified to him andcried out, saying, This was he of whom I said, The onewho is coming after me ranks ahead of me because heexisted before me.From his fullness we have all received, grace in place of
