Merupakan kegembiraan besar bagi saya untuk menyambut anda semua ke festival film kontemporer Australia dan Indonesia – Festival Sinema Australia Indonesia 2017.

Melanjutkan kesuksesan Festival tahun lalu, kami sangat bersemangat untuk mengundang anda untuk menyaksikan barisan film-film hebat, termasuk film peraih berbagai penghargaan Lion yang dibintangi oleh Nicole Kidman dan Spear, sebuah cerita kontemporer suku asli Australia yang disampaikan melalui gerakan dan tarian. Para pembuat film Indonesia yang pernah belajar di Australia akan kembali hadir tahun ini. Diantaranya adalah Sendiri Diana Sendiri oleh Kamila Andini, What They Don’t Talk About When They Talk About Love oleh Mouly Surya dan Sokola Rimba oleh Riri Riza. Saya juga senang untuk mengumumkan Kompetisi Film Pendek kami, yang di mana pemenangnya akan berangkat ke Melbourne International Film Festival. Kami juga telah memperluas Festival Sinema Australia Indonesia tahun ini ke Makassar dan Surabaya. Film adalah sebuah media yang luar biasa untuk menghibur dan menginspirasi orang di seluruh dunia. Film memperlihatkan karakter sebuah negara dan cerita mengenai bangsanya. Sembilan film ini menampilkan aspek yang berbeda dari keberagaman masyarakat Australia dan Indonesia, sejarah kita dan aspirasi kita. Kisah-kisah ini akan bergema pada penonton dari segala usia.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to this festival of contemporary Australian and Indonesian film – Festival Sinema Australia Indonesia 2017.

Following on from the success of last year’s Festival, we are very excited to invite you to discover this new line-up of great films, including the multi-award winning film Lion starring Nicole Kidman and Spear, a contemporary Indigenous Australian story told through movement and dance. Indonesian filmmakers who have studied in Australia will again feature this year. These include Kamila Andini’s Sendiri Diana Sendiri, Mouly Surya’s What They Don’t Talk About When They Talk About Love and Riri Riza’s Sokola Rimba. I am also pleased to announce our Short Film Competition, of which the winner will travel to the Melbourne International Film Festival. We’ve also expanded this year’s Festival Sinema Australia Indonesia to Makassar and Surabaya. Film is a remarkable medium which entertains and inspires people across the world. It conveys a nation’s character and the stories of its people. These nine films feature different aspects of Australia’s and Indonesia’s diverse societies, our histories and our aspirations. These stories will resonate with audiences of all ages.

I still remember volunteering at the Melbourne International Film Festival during my time studying in Australia. Through that experience, I was introduced to the world of cinema and particularly Australian cinema. I am mindful of how sociology, art and media (the topics I studied in Australia) have equipped me in my work, culminating in my return to Australia to show my own film. Australian films are always layered with diversity. Moreover, Australian filmmakers often create films that are inspiring and unforgettable. For this reason, identity is always an interesting topic when discussing Australian cinema. Speaking of identity, this festival subsequently becomes important in not only introducing us to Australian cinema, but also observing its reflection in Indonesian cinema. The short film competition held as part of the festival this year provides a new space for encouraging creative work and an opportunity to further explore the identity of Indonesian film.

Let’s celebrate diversity in cinema and let’s explore identity together. See you at the Festival Sinema Australia Indonesia 2017!

Saya masih ingat hari-hari di kala saya menjadi volunteer di Melbourne International Film Festival selama masa studi saya di Australia. Hari-hari dimana saya diperkenalkan kepada sinema dunia dan sinema Australia. Saya pun ingat bagaimana sosiologi, seni dan media (studi yang jalani di sana), menjadi bekal saya dalam berkarya sampai akhirnya saya bisa kembali kesana membawa film saya sendiri. Film-film Australia selalu memberikan lapisan dalam konteks keberagaman. Selain itu, sutradara-sutradara Australia juga seringkali menyuguhkan film-film yang menggugah dan tak terlupakan. Itu sebabnya topik mengenai identitas selalu menarik saat kita bicara tentang sinema Australia. Bicara mengenai identitas, festival ini kemudian menjadi acara yang sangat penting. Tidak hanya untuk memperkenalkan kita kepada sinema Australia, tapi juga untuk melihat refleksinya pada sinema Indonesia.Kompetisi Film Pendek yang diadakan sebagai bagian dari festival tahun ini kemudian menjadi ruang baru untuk terus memicu karya-karya kreatif dan membaca lebih dalam identitas film Indonesia. Mari rayakan keberagaman sinema, mari jelajahi identitasnya, dan sampai bertemu di Festival Sinema Australia Indonesia 2017!

Festival Sinema Australia Indonesia (FSAI) 2017, yang diadakan oleh Kedutaan Besar Australia, mengedepankan film-film terbaik dari Australia dan Indonesia.

Untuk pertama kalinya FSAI akan memamerkan bakat-bakat muda melalui Kompetisi Film Pendek FSAI 2017 yang perdana. Ke-enam film finalis akan ditayangkan selama Festival untuk memenangkan Penghargaan Film Pendek Terbaik dan Pilihan Penonton (lihat info untuk tata cara pemilihan) yang akan diumumkan pada Ajang Penghargaan hari Minggu 29 Januari 2017.

Selain Jakarta, FSAI 2017 telah diperluas mencakup Makassar dan Surabaya.

The Australian Embassy’s Festival Sinema Australia Indonesia (FSAI) 2017 celebrates the best of Australian and Indonesian films.

For the first time FSAI will showcase emerging Indonesian filmmaking talent with the inaugural Short Film Competition FSAI 2017. All six finalist films will be screened throughout the Festival with the winners for the Best Short Film and People’s Choice Award (see info on how to vote) being announced at the Awarding Ceremony on Sunday 29 January 2017 .

As well as Jakarta, FSAI 2017 has been expanded to include Makassar and Surabaya.

Dari hampir 300 karya yang terdaftar, 6 finalis telah terpilih untuk berlomba dan berhak dapat kesempatan memenangkan perjalanan ke Melbourne International Film Festival 2017. For the first time, FSAI 2017 features a Short Film Competition held to support the Indonesian film industry by providing an outlet for aspiring young Indonesian filmmakers to show their latest works. From the almost 300 films submitted, six finalists have been chosen to compete for a chance to win a trip to the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) 2017. One night, Timothy, a journalist, has to work late to meet his deadline. Kania, his girlfriend, accompanies him to his office while waiting, Kania inspires Timothy to make a promise that they will stay together until death do they part.

Each year thousands of Indonesians travel home to celebrate the Idul Fitri holiday with their families. It is a time of hope and joy. As Mother waits for her son to return she prepares a feast to welcome him home.

Adopted from the same-titled short story in her book “Home”, Happy Salma explores a conversation of life and secrets between a mother and her daughter.

Seluruh finalis berhak mendapatkan kesempatan memenangkan sebuah kamera Nikon D5200 sebagai hadiah Penghargaan Pilihan Penonton. Penghargaan tersebut akan diberikan kepada film finalis yang memperoleh pilihan suara terbanyak selama FSAI 2017.

Satu film finalis akan ditayangkan setiap sebelumpemutaran film yang ditawarkan selama FSAI 2017berlangsung di XXI Senayan City, Jakarta. Setiappenonton dapat memilih film pendek finalis favorit. We are pleased to present the six finalist films for the inaugural Short Film Competition FSAI 2017.

One film will be selected as the overall winner by the Grand Jury, with the winner receiving a return trip to Melbourne to attend the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) and the opportunity to have their film screened at MIFF.

All finalists are eligible for a chance to win a Nikon D5200 camera as the People’s Choice Award. The Award will be given to the film finalist who receives the most number of votes during FSAI 2017.

One of the film finalists will be screened before eachadvertised film screening during FSAI2017, at XXISenayan City, Jakarta. Each viewer is able to vote fortheir favourite short-film finalist. Only one (1) vote isallowed per viewer and all votes must be submitted bySunday 29 January at 14.30 (WIB) in XXI Senayan CityJakarta and by Saturday 28 January at 16.00 (WITA) inXXI Trans Studio Makassar at the latest.

Western Australian f i lmmaker and enter tainment lawyer, Ian Booth has been Chief Executive of ScreenWest since 2007, he’s also a Board member of national screen organization Ausfilm. His work included development and investment by ScreenWest in a number of feature films like Bran Nue Dae, Mad Bastards, Red Dog, Red Dog: True Blue, Paper Planes, the upcoming Jasper Jones and Breath; and award winning television productions, including Cloudstreet, Serangoon Road, Who Do You Think You Are, Lockie Leonard, Jandamarra’s War, SAS: Search for Warriors, Desert War and The War That Changed Us.

Many of the feature film projects have been selected for international film festivals, including Cannes, Venice, Sundance, Berlin, Busan and Toronto.

Thomas Caldwell adalah penulis, penyiar, kritikus film, pembicara dan programmer film yang tinggal di Melbourne, Australia. Dia memproduksi program kritik film mingguan Plato’s Cave dan hadir tiap bulan di ABC Radio National dalam program adaptasi buku ke film: Books and Arts Daily. Ia pun menulis buku pelajaran: Film Analysis Handbook. Sutradara Terbaik, Lagu Terbaik dan Naskah Asli Terbaik untuk film ini. Film keduanya What They Don’t Talk About When They Talk About Love (2013) adalah film pertama Indonesia yang terpilih berkompetisi di Sundance Film Festival 2013 dan memenangkan piala NETPAC untuk Film Asia Terbaik di International Film Festival of Rotterdam dan penghargaan internasional lainnya. Kini Mouly Surya sedang memproduksi film terbaru Marlina The Murderer In Four Acts.

Saroo Brierley was born in an Indian town called Khandwa. In 1986, aged only 5 he lost his contact with his family. He then grew up with his newly adopted parents in Hobart, Tasmania. 25 years later, he sets out to find his lost family. He documented his journey in his book “A Long Way Home” which was adapted into the film Lion.

Mouly Surya’s debut fi lm Fiction, premiered at Busan International Film Festival 2008. With her Masters of Film and Television from Bond University, Queensland, Australia and a Bachelor of Arts from Swinburne University of Technology, Victoria, Australia, her Fiction went on to win Citra Awards, the highest achievement in Indonesia Film Industry for Best Film, Best Director, Best Music and Best Original Screenplay. Her second film What They Don’t Talk About When They Talk About Love (2013) was the first Indonesian film to compete in Sundance Film Festival 2013 and won a NETPAC Award for Best Asian Film at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam as well as other international awards. Mouly Surya is currently producing her latest film Marlina The Murderer In Four Acts.

The script of her short film, The Ravens, was also nominated for the Monte Miller Award by the Australian Writers’ Guild in 2012.
